    Default New tattoo!

Once upon a time there was a squiggle. He was a good squiggle:

It's a design, devoid of general meaning, that routinely crops up in artifex's, doodles, drawings, and pottery. I always found it interesting and evocative, and eventually decided to get it as a tattoo. So she drew it freehand on paper, and then cleaned it up in Paint Shop Pro until it was happy. Happy little squiggle.

Sunday we took it to Sacred Heart Studio, reputed to be one of Houston's finest. Once we got there, artifex decided, "Me, too! Only smaller!" Here are a few "during" shots:

So that was yesterday evening. Today, 24 hours later, mine is already looking much cleaner and hers is practically perfect. Hell, the only thing still red on her is the tape burn:

Owing to its small size, she went with solid black for hers. On mine, I had it fade out towards the bottom in a gradient. Once it heals, I'm going to fill it from the bottom in color. Exactly what color it will be is something I'm not quite sure of yet. I'm leaning towards red, but I think I'll wear it around for a few weeks and a choice will become obvious, whether it's red, green or whatever.

Questions and comments (aside from telling me how fat I look in that last picture) more than welcome.

    1. I like it. Simple and cool.

    2. When you stand shoulder to shoulder you should shout, "Wonder couple powers, activate!" The try to take the form of a something entertaining for a party trick.

    3. I am too busy admiring how seal-like smooth you look.

Thank you very much. It's my first tattoo, and having waited 36 years for the first tattoo, I was making damn sure not to get something that was tacky, looked like a piece of generic flash off the wall, or was just plain ugly. It's gratifying to hear you don't hate it.

    Awesome.

You know, the whole matching tattoo thing is more her show than mine, though I'm certainly happy that she decided to get one. I would have gotten this piece whether she did or not, because I love her and I wanted something on me that she created. I figure on the "tempt the gods scale," this is slightly less egregious than getting each other's names tattooed on us in Old English-style script.

It's the Asian thing, man. I have barely a scrap of body hair.

In that last pic it looks like it fades to silver. If they can ink it in that color it would be awsome.
    Welcome to Mellophant.

We started with nothing and we still have most of it left.

Very cool. Simple and aesthetically pleasing

I used to have a doodle I wanted to turn into a tattoo, but I lost the scrap of paper in one of my many moves ...

I love that design! Also, I have always wanted to get a tattoo.

But if I got the same design, it would be kinda weird and stalkerish, wouldn't it.

Metallic inks do exist (as do glow in the dark), however they are very rare and ever so slightly toxic so most artists won't touch them.

I like the design a lot. It's simple and clean and it has meaning. My prediction: Now that you have one, you'll be totally sleeved out in the next 5 years.

    I like you, but yes.

I did a little internet research after Glazer mentioned it, and I came to sort of the same conclusion.

Thanks. I'm really happy with how it's turning out. As far as the slippery slope goes, I've almost resigned myself to it. I intentionally got this one big, so that when my left arm is totally sleeved (and I was sort of thinking of sticking with the left arm until it's covered, and probably a lot faster than five years, at that), it will still be the centerpiece.

Snort. I guess I'll have to go back to my original plan then, which is to get a series of small seashells at strategic points on my back in order to better order my husband how to give back rubs: "Scratch the conch! Mmm...press hard a little below the bivalve...okay, a little gentle tickle in the area of the trochus now...."

This idea has potential applications over far more than just the back...

Yes, but that gets very painful in the execution. I once watched a big biker dude get his wedding tackle indelibly marked and let me just say "Ohfucknoman" to the idea of doodling on the fun bits. I had to go outside and smoke many, many cigarettes that day and what has been seen.........
