Default What movie have you seen the most often?

Those of you who are also old will remember that before about 15 years ago, It's a Wonderful Life was on every. channel. several. times. during the Christmas season. You could easily catch it a dozen times a year. I have loved this movie since I was about 9 and so I watched every showing of it I could see. Then when I was older I bought it on VHS, then DVD. As an adult with (I hope ) more sophisticated tastes, I still think this is a really good film - great script, fine acting, and plenty dark enough, I think, to contradict the critiscisms that some level about its supposed oversentimentality (it's pretty much the only Capra film that isn't hokey as fuck in my opinion). Now it's on my iPod so I watch it while waiting at doctor's offices, etc. I have seen this movie hundreds of times. I can quote almost all of it from memory.

Any of you have a movie like this?

My runners-up for most-seen movie (I notice most of these I saw first either as a little kid or a teenager):

    Clueless
    The Breakfast Club
    Empire Records
    National Velvet
Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory
    The Thin Man
    1776

eta: o and Ferris Bueller's Day Off and The Princess Bride (which I imagine will be an answer for many people). In the 80s we did not have a VCR, but we would occassionally rent one and I always got one of those two and, uh......The Gods Must be Crazy.

Aside from the Star Wars and Star Trek movies the one's I've seen the most are...

    Mad Max and Road Warrior
    Trainspotting
    Aliens
    Predator
    Goodfellas
Fear And Loathing In Las Vegas
    Grosse Point Blank

When my best friend and I got our first apartment after high school, these movies were in constant rotation on the DVD player/VCR.

    But Alan Arkin.

Wizard of Oz (once a year through childhood and then my kids really really liked this tape and then DVD)
Yellow Submarine (My son played it daily for a while, I had a friend who thought we just always had it on)
Kelly's Heroes (I have to watch it if it is one and have been doing so for decades now.)
    Airplane
The Wall (Dozen times at the movies and dozen times off of tape but not for years)

It's a Wonderful Life, Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory, Mary Poppins, Bedknobs and Broomsticks, Chitty Chitty Bang Bang, Miracle on 34th Street, Real Genius are all high.

How did I forget: The Godfather, Godfather II, Pulp Fiction, Blazing Saddles, Animal House, Blues Brothers, Young Frankenstein

With a Dozen as the cut-off, I think I need to add: Star Trek II & IV (Khan and the Whale Movie) & Roger Rabbit. Monty Python's Holy Grail.

Probably the movie I've watched more than any other is The Empire Strikes Back, and then Return of the Jedi after that.

Other movies I never get sick of:
    Being John Malkovich
Kill Bill vol. 1 (I love vol 2 also, but there's too much talking and not enough violence. )
And it's kind of embarrassing how many times I've watched Can't Hardly Wait
Bound (lesbians + mafia = win)

You're just a few years younger than me, right? That came out a little bit after I graduated high school. I think there is something about the movies and music that were popular when we were teens that stick with us, for some reason.

ETA: Just remembered Clue! I had to have seen this dozens of times.

This is much harder than I thought it would be...

    Star Trek 2, 4 and 6
    Casablanca
White Christmas (we watch it every Xmas)
    4 Weddings and a Funeral
    When Harry Met Sally
    Little Miss Sunshine
    Princess Bride
    MP and the Holy Grail
    Harry Potter 3 and 5
    Gone With the Wind
    Moonstruck

I feel like I'm missing at least one, but I can't bring it to mind.

What Exit just reminded me, and I'm not sure how I forgot but I have Reservoir Dogs and Pulp Fiction damn near memorized. I even have a Mr. White action figure.

Oh and add The Harder They Come to my list. Great soundtrack but I think I watched it so many times to figure out what everyone was saying.

Just remembered, I love werewolf movies and I've seen both American Werewolf in London, and The Howling more times than I can count.

I really have no use for musicals for the most part, but my list has got to include West Side Story

I hadn't really thought about my teen movies, but I have seen these many times as well:

    Breakfast Club
    The Sure Thing
    Breaking Away

    Forgot the musicals, too:

    Bells Are Ringing
    Guys and Dolls
Oklahoma (but I never want to see it again--ugh)
    Music Man

Princess Bride, how did I forget this. Thanks eleanorigby.

I love Breakfast Club and Better Off Dead but I don't think I have seen them a dozen times.

    Probably Blade Runner and Alien*/Aliens.
I have such a crap memory that I can watch a film almost to the end without realizing that I have seen it before - sometimes several times. Same with books, I keep reading the same ones 'cause I have forgotten I have read them. Some seem a bit familiar but often I'm on the last few pages before I realise

Am I really the first to say The Rocky Horror Picture Show???

I stopped countin at 100 viewings, and know I've seen it at least 50-75 additional times.

    Runner up: A Knight's Tale.

    The Blues Brothers
    Grease
    Singin in the Rain
    Guys and Dolls
    Meet Me in St Louis
    The Breakfast Club
    Ferris Bueller
    When Harry Met Sally

What is the name of the Gene Kelly/Frank Sinatra picture where they are sailors on leave in NYC? I've seen it a million times and am totally blanking on the name.

Huh. Clearly some of you either have no kids, or your parenting style differs from mine.

    Here's my list:

    Toy Story 2
    Shrek
    Son of the Mask
(found it in a $3.99 bin; they loved it. FML.)
    Mighty Morphin' Power Rangers
    Barbie's Mermaidia

I've seen each of those movies at least 100 times. By comparison, the movies I've watched the most by choice - Pulp Fiction, Patton, The Usual Suspects, etc. - probably top out at 30.

I have to agree with OCS. Regardless of how much I like a movie, I wouldn't ask to watch it on a daily basis for months. There's no movie I've seen as often as I've seen "LILOSTITCH!" or Finding Nemo. Or the two Toy Story movies, which is all my kid wanted to watch for pretty much the whole week he was quarantined to the house because we thought he might have measles.

There was an extended period of time during my high school years when I was watching John Landis' horror-comedy An American Werewolf in London maybe four to six times a week. I have no explanation for this.

At this point, films featured on the TV show Mystery Science Theater 3000 probably fill up the next dozen or so slots on my 'most-viewed' list. I watched the tapes until I got a computer and could watch them on Google. I often have one playing in the background while I'm doing something else. Off the top of my head, some of the ones I've watched most are:

    "Manos" The Hands of Fate
    Bride of the Monster
    Beast of Yucca Flats
    Red Zone Cuba
The Wild Wild World of Batwoman
    Cave Dwellers

...and so on and on. Also MST3K: The Movie, which encompasses an edited version of This Island Earth, so I guess it counts twice?

On the Town and I have seen it pretty often myself.

Come to think of it, I have seen Singing in the Rain more than a dozen times. Also I have probably seen Roman Holiday and Harvey over a dozen times.

Bull Durham -- used to watch this one 3-4 times a year.
Star Wars -- probably 2-3 dozen times.
The Princess Bride -- Never go in against a Sicilian when death is on the line!
Casablanca -- One of the best movies ever made. Period.
My Cousin Vinny -- Any time I see it playing on TV, I have to stop and watch.
A Few Good Men -- same thing; I just can't tear myself away from it.
Monty Python and the Holy Grail -- my introduction to Monty Python, at about age 10. I've wanted a killer bunny ever since.
The Spy Who Loved Me -- not my favorite Bond movie (but easily my favorite Roger Moore Bond movie), but I've sure seen it a lot.
    Hell is other people.

This is one of those movies where, if it's on TV* and I come across it, there's a very good likelihood I will be stuck there until it's over.

    * and that is a very common occurrence since Turner launched the A Few Good Men Network (FGMN) on basic cable in 2003, playing the film 24/7/365.

My son and my favorite niece both adored The Lion King. Between them I've seen it about a hundred quintillion times.

I've probably seen Casablanca 4 times. I need to see it again, soon.

It's possible that Casablanca is the most sharply written film I've ever seen. The dialog
is awesome, and Bogart is fabulous.

    Exactly so.

I've probably seen it a dozen times or more and I catch yet another wonderfully crafted line or clever throw-away moment every time.
