The Giraffeboards are having a huge charity drive in celebration of their one year anniversary. Please come over, dust off your account, and celebrate one successful year of messageboarding.

Obviously, this is not how I'd have chosen to promote our charity drive over here, but since the cows are already out of the barn I may as well make lemonade out of lemons before the ship has fully sailed.
Hmm, that didn't go well. Let me start again.
One thing that both Mellophant and GB have in common: we're not run by a for-profit enterprise. So we can provide the same service as the SDMB for essentially free without having to cover the board in ads and sell memberships. It would be cool if we could convert that advantage into something tangible. Hence: charity drive.
And forget about the GB association. While I would of course be delighted if anyone wanted to make a pledge over there so we can track our total effect as free message board enthusiasts, at the end of the day all that matters is getting money into the hands of people who need it.
To that end, I urge all Mellophant posters who feel they have gotten more than $0 worth of value from the site to consider donating some or all of that money to someone who needs it.
I don't have PayPal or a credit card, so I donated an undisclosed sum here. Good idea, Giraffe and all!
