I've never heard of them. Have you got any links so we can enjoy as well.

Sure, sorry about that! I forget I have weird taste in music. I have a feeling you know who Mandy Patinkin is, even if you don't recognize the name. His most famous line is "My name is Inigo Montoya. You killed my father. Prepare to die." He makes the audience say it at all of his concerts.

But besides that, the two of them are both Broadway singers...legends, really. They starred together in the original production of Evita, Patti as Eva and Mandy as Che, probably 25 years ago now? They've never starred together in anything else, but they both have had brilliant careers in musical theater. Mandy does a lot of concert performances, and I go to them as often as I can when he comes through Chicago. This time, he's performing with her, and I am so looking forward to hearing them sing together.

Here's a clip of them from the original production of Evita, with Bob Gunton as well (playing Juan Peron).

Oh, and here's Patti singing "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina," her signature song.

I'm jealous! That Evita soundtrack is one of my all-time favorites.

The Tribune gave this three stars.

    They may have been kidding...

    Hi, Nrblex!

It was terrific. Really, really entertaining, with amazing singing, acting, a little dancing. Patti sang "Everything's Coming Up Roses" and "Don't Cry for Me, Argentina," and those two songs were worth the price of admission by themselves! Plus, the two of them are old friends and that really comes across in the act, so it was very charming. All in all a fine evening at the theater.

Except for the group of guys sitting behind us who thought it was cocktail hour at the local bar, but that's another story.

Sounds like a lovely night, Sarah. I've always wanted to see Mandy Patinkin perform. Certainly a better choice for your evening than staying home with your hated Oscars.

What Sarahfeena doesn't tell you is that her blackberry gave her incorrect directions (yeah, I'm accepting that excuse from her) forcing me to walk over a mile in a cold drizzle with freezing feet.
This tastes like the circus smells.

Mandy usually swings through Chicago when he tours. If you have the chance, you seriously should come down here to see him when he does. Finky and I have seen him a bunch of times, and he is just an amazing performer. He's a great storyteller, he's funny, and of course I don't have to tell you about his singing. It's always a great experience.
