There is Liberal. The whiny, sad, drama queen Liberal

Liberal wrote on March 2nd, 2009 on this board, in a thoughtful OP entitled "Causing problems on SDMB" started by CRSP, that he was done posting on the dope.

I agree. If all goes well, my last post there will be whatever it was, and that's it.

This gave me hope. Liberal was claiming that he was going to quietly walk away from the SDMB, and that's the class thing to do. Good for him.

However, he couldn't stand it. No one missed him. 5 days pass. So what does he do? On March 7th, 2009, he writes this pathetic plea for acknowledgment, which some of you have unfortunately stumbled on called We're finally moving!, a clever opus written, as Liberal claims in his not-so-subtle OP called 37,601, that "It was just a flow of thought, really." Uh, yeah.

The grand OP, 37,601 reads as follows:

I decided to leave a formal goodbye. And a plug.

with a link to his "Look at me! Please notice me and tell me how great I am! PLEASE! Validate me!" post on the SDMB. And then, paranoia sets in.

After the obligatory "Great post, Lib!", "Beautiful post, Lib!", and the other ego-stroking mutual masturbation postings, Liberal notices that his thread is sinking like a stone. His reasoning?

It looks like the thread What Exit left has dropped like a stone as well. Something tells me we're on somebody's shit list over there.

Really? That's the reason it's sinking? Or perhaps people just don't want to jerk you off in public on a message board. Perhaps they just don't care. It is possible, you know.

Then someone points out the obvious. Jeff has the balls to actually post it.

If it drops like a stone, its for the same reason every other thread drops like a stone - because no one gives a shit enough to respond. Get the fuck over yourself.

There you have it. An actual observation. Jeff is then pummeled with the normal vitriol expected from the Usual Suspects. To his credit, Jeff stands by his analysis of the situation.

But wait! Liberal gets another chubby in his pants because his thread is moved to ATMB and points it out with (bizarre) glee.

The only thing good that came out of the post that it was indeed Liberal's last post on the SDMB. 37,601. Wow. Thirty seven thousand, six hundred and one posts. My God. Is that even possible? I guess when you can just hammer out an OP like the "We're finally moving!" by "flow of thought", I guess anything is possible. Stephen King doesn't even write that much.

At 7:55 PM, he made the noble decision that it just wouldn't be fair or right to post where Liberal had announced he wouldn't be responding, so he took it upon himself to post it here, just because "it would be better posted here."

What you don't realize, Oakminster, is that I, for one, was hoping that these boards would be a new start. That's one of the reasons why I wanted to see this board and the Giraffe board merge. But, since that wasn't to be, I still want both boards to survive. I don't really care what happens to the dope. If what I hear is true and CL is going (or in) chapter 11, odds are the board will be shut down unless someone wants to pick up the tab.

But I still read the dope. I'll post there from time to time until it dies or I stop visiting. But the constant bitching and complaining from some of you who have made domebo your home is petty.

I'll give you a non-smartass answer, StinkFishPot - some of us had a lot invested in the Dope emotionally, and it is going to take us awhile to separate and cool off. I personally felt a huge wave of relief and freedom when I started posting here, and I'm still angry at some of the shit that has gone down. There are some drama queens, sure, and some chronic troublemakers, too, but there are also a lot of people like me, who didn't want this to happen and wish that management at the Dope hadn't pushed us this far. I'm no longer interested in changing the Straight Dope - I'm not banging my head on that brick wall any longer.
