I'm surprised it doesn't default to 'choice.' That's usually the correction I get.

With rather good timing, my internet access will be limited over the next week though I'll try to check it once or twice a day. Since Kylah is--to quote one of my favorite vituperative fictional characters--about as much use as a marzipan dildo, I doubt this will cause a problem.

Ahh, the cavalry came in the form of my brother-in-law and his extra router. So, breathe easy, Team Yorktown. Your search for justice will not suffer for the lack of Kylah's extraordinarily vital ability to sense vaguely when someone might possibly be saying something that's less than 100% truthful!

I stand corrected if Rangin is attacked by a slime devil while running through the rain that will be the icing on the cake...

I keep replaying this scene substituting "marzipan dildo" for "Captain Dunsel"

You flatter me! I've been wrong (assuming I am wrong, which I don't--unless the raison d'etre of our characters is to get thrown out of interviews a lot and get sexually assaulted, in which case I do agree she has few equals!) about waaaay more things than this. I'm a Knicks fan, for pete's sake.

Excellent setup and punchline. Well played!

LOL. Unfortunately I can't get a good link to the scene because in the US, the episodes are only available on Hulu or for pay on Youtube, but here's . The character is Malcolm Tucker (as played by Peter Capaldi), the frightening, vicious yet somehow charming press director to the Prime Minister, from The Thick of It, a British comedy that should be mandatory viewing for anyone who is interested in labyrinthine politics, dark humor, and positively rococo swearing.

One of my favorite illustrative quotes that describes Malcolm perfectly. He's the PM's attack dog and has all of Whitehall trembling lest they be at the receiving end of one of his vitriolic bollockings.

To define the term "marzipan dildo" -- If one knows the consistency of marzipan, which is soft and crumbly, and then takes into consideration the common use of the implement in question, you would probably see that one made out of marzipan would be less than structurally sound, and certainly of minimal effectiveness for its intended purpose.

There, did I say it delicately enough?

    * Or should I say now, the Doctor? Doctor Who reference for the nongeeks out there, who... I don't think exist in this thread.

But I still think you are far too modest on Kylah's behalf.

    Graham feeling in his element:

Actually Lt. Col. Hal Moore directing things at the battle of the Ia Drang Valley in Vietnam (subject of the book / movie "We Were Soldiers Once and Young").

One of the biggest problems there was that a young ensign transported herself without permission a young lieutenant led his platoon out of formation pursuing a fleeing enemy solider (aka bait) that became trapped in on man's land...

Well, nothing happened, Rangin's fine and surrounded by security people, so as usual Kylah's instincts were in top form! Hell, I would love it if Kylah could actually be trapped, that at least would indicate she'd found someone or done something to spur someone into action. We would've been fine if not for Delaney--get his ass decommissioned for being such a loudmouth!

And I'll have you know, general_urko, it's Graham who's going rogue now!

Surely he'd have concerns about a boy too, I should hope. It'd be a trip to see him with a son who's more like Rangin.

But man, I hope with all the patronizing "poor, impotent Kylah, who dares to go off on her own, needs a man I don't even respect to protect her and a Vulcan to advise her properly" crap Graham is spewing--despite going searching for Hardin alone when there were security guards five feet away from him, and his worrying about walking through an electric storm while Kylah was smart enough to beam over instantly--at some point, Graham gets to watch impotently while Kylah goes all Sigourney Weaver/Ripley on Hardin's ass!

Hold on Rangin has already played Hicks to Kylah's Ripley, last time on board the Sakath station.

Oh no, here we go again. This is going to become on ongoing thing isn't it.

IIRC in that fight against the slime devil, Rangin got the kill shot, didn't he? Kylah was too busy having her wrist almost bitten off.

True, but in the final fight against the hordes of onrushing zombies, who came out swinging and who was being carried off injured to sick bay.

Don't remind me! Kylah just had a terrible flashback to that. But to make it up to you, I'm fine with Kylah getting terribly wounded (as long as it happens while she's doing something!), with Rangin kablamming whoever-the-baddie is with one hand while he's simultaneously carrying her to safety with the other.

Kylah should probably have a full neural scan after the mission - first she gets a contact trip from Collins, then she's all but roofied, now Hardin's knockout blast. It's a wonder her brain is still in one piece.

Now, now Graham doesn't think Kylah's impotent (or weak), he fears that she's vulnerable (for various reasons)...

As noted before, remember that phasers (either the small, cellphone-sized phaser-1s or the larger, pistol-like phaser-2s) are not "holstered," but are attached to the waistband of Starfleet uniform pants, or to a black utility belt, by a Velcro-like (but stronger) material, like so: http://tos.trekcore.com/gallery/albu...donais0465.jpg

A full brainscan is a very good idea, anyrose. Maybe someday! Oh wait, and for Kylah too.

EH, maybe 'unholstered' is just the shorthand vernacular that's still in use? We still "dial" phones even though rotary phones haven't been popular in over 40 years. I know ENT isn't considered canon in this game, but they did have holsters back then, so the name could've just 'stuck.' It's certainly cooler to say than "He unsticks his phaser from its Velcro-like holding thingy."

I wonder what the correct terminology for it is then? Holstering also has the connotations of it being put away so it cannot be used easily as well.

Stowed his phaser, just doesn't seem right somehow.

Fair point. I would probably write "stowed" (which is proper naval parlance for putting away just about anything) or "put away," though.

So the outcomes of this transporter room interaction has totally got to be Rangin's esteem rising for Kylah given her saintly compassion for other living beings (including primates) while Graham is that much more of a cad for so rudely harshing everyone's mellow by staggering around injured in such a rude way..

Thanks! Yep, I know where he is and where we were told--I just didn't know how Kylah and, ahem, Rangin would've known since Graham had his physical breakdown before he passed along the info, or at least I thought he did; maybe the comm channel was open and I didn't realize it.

(Sorry, CIAS... you already know I'm OCD where continuity is concerned. )

Yeah, so precious, he's already been soaked once due to Graham's orders. Graham just transported across to avoid the rain.

Now, just for the record, Graham did not specifically order Rangin to go secure the transporter room on foot... He could have asked for a transport....

Hope you have a good weekend, EH! And sorry about leaving you stuck with all the now mute and stone-like NPCs, CIAS.

Now I'm in a bit of a quandary. Presumably Hsu hasn't zapped everyone, but my inclination as Kylah would be to scan the room nevertheless even though Graham's suggestion was sarcastic (I think). But obviously she can't because then we'll be stuck until whenever EH can get back.

CIAS, unless you've been told that Rangin's lying twitching on the floor in a puddle of drool, maybe Velir can step outside to see what the deal is? Then at least you're back in the land of the PCs and we can all converse while the NPCs stand staring dopily into space till EH returns. (In Delaney's case, probably not much of a noticeable difference.*)

    * Yes, as CIAS and g_u know, I'm not a Delaney fan. He's been pissing me right off this mission!

Ooh if Rangin is lying twitching on the floor in a pool of drool Graham's day will just get better and better...

Although is Kylah is (more) pissed because she thinks he's being a jerk about scanning the room it may just get worse...

And how many of those violations, general, have you seen yourself...?
I appreciate the fact that you asked how many I've seen, not committed, EH...

Yes, sometimes I can be surprisingly tactful.

Actually, Rangin had just gone over this room completely only 20 minutes ago, so there would be nothing in the walls, no, it could only be aimed at the people there. Perhaps Graham was even less trusting as things got worse.
Naturally Rangin is too civilized to blurt out that this is a stupid idea but surely he just might discreetly take Graham aside and criticize him for implementing Kylah's idea being such a rude thug.... *

*But who is beating who is the question...perhaps we need an icon where there's an unbroken circle of mutual beatings...

Oh dude, don't even blame Kylah for this one! Yes, scanning, but no, not issuing a formal clarion call to arms by announcing his intention to scan for unusual devices. If there were someone who had one of those weapons, Graham's basically just given the guy a good reason (and plenty of warning) to use it!

Probably nothing will happen, but dang, I almost hope it does, just because... well, it proves Kylah's "acting without thinking" point so nicely.
