    ...Spitting coffee on keyboard.

Seriously, that is hilarious and gets Kylah two weeks shore leave in a five star resort on Bolarus IX where she can spend the day lazing away or being guided round to see the local wildlife in some of the more remote areas with her own personal guide and at night, she can live it up...with that personal guide again.

I thought it should be ROTFLYLS ("Rolling On the Floor Laughing, You Little Shit").

But this was hilarious - I was on a conference call and cracked up...

Love the tricorder with the nose and glasses!

Seriously, though, if it were that easy to figure out how to find trace elements and detect them in scent form, we still wouldn't be using dogs as much as we do (police, military, rescue, etc.). And there's been no indication in any incarnation of ST that I can recall to show they're any better at it than we are.

Cost, its much cheaper to train a dog than build a machine to do it for you. Especially as we still don't know precisely how it works, but a trained dog, well, works.

Watch TV programmes in general and you won't find it much, mainly because its an audiovisual experience. The few times you will see smell being used in TV, it will be over food or smoke from fires. However, given its complexity, it looks like its Dog 1 - Star Trek 0

Ok, I'm going to just concede using the tricorder at this point. I would rather say Rangin can't quite get the tricorder to work, and be unable to find any traces at all than have a gust of wind to blow the scent away. Not to mention that wearing shoes and not touching anything will not stop him leaving a trail. I'm sorry, its makes Rangin looks like a idiot in his chosen field.

See what a Bloodhound can do, as to why. They are severely underestimated in just how well they can track someone over several days, most weathers, all surfaces etc. etc.

Besides, it will give him something to work on after the mission.

He's a xenobiologist, not a scent specialist. In any event, he finds no scent of Wilson around.

Oh don't worry, we'll blame Collins, it's easy to do that.

EH, a question: when you mention that Kylah thinks she can override the password (knowing Wilson she should at least try "12345" or "Wilson" or even "password" first!) via the Yorktown computers, does that mean she'd have to beam up to the ship? Or can she somehow coordinate her own communicator to access the ship and act as a conduit? Sorry, I wouldn't want to ask in the game thread because Kylah should know these things, as a comm officer. It's just her stupid player who's technologically illiterate when it comes to Trek-tech.

She could do it from any computer terminal on OC3, using a subspace link. She would not have to beam back aboard.

Doesn't the WR&R have at least thumbprint records? Jan used a thumb to open his door IIRC, and Wilson calibrated the safety deposit box / safe to recognize Fastolfe's print.

I imagine that customer confidentiality will come into play unless someone gets a warrant to access the data. But no harm in asking of course.

Mmm, I found that a little unusual (that's why Kylah indicated Rangin in her response). I admit Graham is making quite a meal out of his "Rangin hates me" leitmotif but it is out of character for him to completely blank* the guy. So I can only guess general_urko may not have seen Rangin's post?

Rangin wonders if he should fill Graham in on what happened at the Sakathian Station. Maybe he attitude to the rest of the group may change slightly, given what happened. Then again, knowing Graham, he would probably have a bigger and better story of how he single handedly fought off an entire battalion of Klingons armed only with a spoon and then expect to us to bow down in awe and amazement.
Is it a cliche to have a crush on the character your own PC has a crush on? 'Cause I just adore Rangin. The "armed only with a spoon" continues to make me crack up. Well done, CIAS. And honestly if I'd been more on the ball I should've connected Graham's comment with Kylah's ongoing feelings about killing the Sakathians, but she was already taking offense (though not overtly) to his 'career' remark. Except his career remark was understandable since that's why she wanted to go through with the dinner in the first place.

But yeah at some point Graham needs to be enlightened that Delaney, "Science Guy," and Graham's daughter substitute have been in life-and-death situations and were forced to react with violence--it's not only Security folks (including T'Var since Graham seems aware that she's got that kind of past) who have dealt with this stuff. Methinks some day Rangin and Graham are totally gonna have it out.

    * P.S. your UKness is showing! As did Rangin's use of "and such" in an earlier post. Don't get me wrong, this ain't no complaint, I love it!

Oops. Wow, yes, well I totally misread the main thread. Didn't realize Rangin was scanning Graham, thought it was Kylah.

But it's not out of character for Graham to have been distracted and CIAS handled it well, so let's go with it.

Damn, and this explains a lot about Rangin--all that fuss just to make sure the security guy doesn't have his feelings hurt over coffee the dude probably didn't even make. He could've just not drunk the darn thing, but no, Rangin is all about politeness.

So EH, how long is this guy in the red house gonna take to get into a bathrobe? (I know, I know, you're being polite and waiting for anyrose to feel better. I understand and will be patient!)

You forgot to mention my UKness is showing.

A British person would either get rid of it or drink it regardless of taste, just to be polite, seeing as they asked for it in the first place.

Heh, that's a good point. Well, I'm glad Velir didn't drink it, because my paranoid mystery-lover's mind immediately went to poison when the coffee had a bad taste. Once murder is afoot, I suspect everything that's out of the ordinary!

I'll be honest, it was also my first thought as well. But playing true to Rangin, all he wants is a decent cup of coffee.

And having had metallic tasting coffee before, its disgusting.

I still hurt. and I'm all purple and sore all over. and I'm still on pain meds and muscle relaxants. the doc said she wants me to stay on low dose until at least Monday, then as needed. It makes me not able to concentrate, which means I have retained nothing of what I read. Elendil's Heir - please conduct Collins in a manner that befits me - but with the change that she's not jumping to any conclusions, she just takes notes and updates the captain. When I'm ready to focus again, I'll probably need a recap.

To show you how much I sympathize for your injured state, I'm even refraining from snarking here. How much more respectful can you get?

EH have you heard from general_urko? Oddly quiet today, and Kylah's waiting on an answer from him. Everything copacetic as far as you know?

Ha! Well, we know Kylah recalls that. That's why she said two posts above yours that there were two other ships in orbit along with Fastolfe's.

    This is priceless.

    1. Graham is all focused on Fastolfe because--obviously, to him--if there's no basis to hold him, he can hop in his ship and give them all the finger as he flies away.

    2. Kylah quite intelligently raises the issue of the ships in orbit, but in such a way that she implies --at at least to him -- not grokking point 1.

    3. This all happens right in front of Rangin...

    Happy Birthday, WES!!

But it's alternate reality Kirk and Spock, not Shatner and Nimoy (who apparently has taken a turn for the worse in his lung cancer battle)

I'm not fully back yet; the pain in my bad knee is worse now that the swelling is down (the swelling was numbing the nerves) so I'm real cranky.
I'd really appreciate a recap of the facts - I don't need a recap of any emotional drama, perceived or felt.
Just a list of what we know so far and where everyone is would be really really really swell. Thanks muchly.

I'll leave that to others, if they wish. As I said, I think it would be better for you to just read the game thread, lest something be omitted that you later wished you'd been told.
