It's a good thing Collins isn't at the club with the others. She may not have a high psy score, but she can put 2 and 2 together with the best of them. And while she wouldn't say anything to Jan, she'd have ammo for her battle with Kylah.

I have no idea what Rangin's Psy score is, so I'm having to do it in game. Not to mention Rangin not seeing Kylah's walk of shame and no-one actually telling him what state she was in. He caught up to her in the dark and so saw not a lot. Of course, his trust in Kylah's professionalism means he is missing out on the most obvious answer.

Although both the Doctor and Graham did see a lot more and can probably put it together better than Rangin.

Graham's Psy score is neck and neck with rocks and trees, but he did see a lot more as CIAS points out.

It's "Psi," and you can find attribute scores for most of the PCs, except those who asked for them to be redacted, here: http://www.mellophant.com/forums/sho...acter-profiles. I don't have Rangin's sheet with the details right at hand, but IIRC his Psi score was no great shakes. T'Var definitely has the best of the three at the nightclub.

Graham is sorry Kylah isn't here, which would have made the line of questioning he wanted to pursue more brutal, but more likely to uncover what happened...

Collins being there would I suppose be the extra brutal cherry on the brutal cream sundae...

But Kylah did ask to be treated like a professional...

OMG I'm reading this whole exchange and cracking up. I don't even dare guess what Rangin is suggesting to Jan re: the precautions. Is he basically saying, "So does Kylah need a shot because you're riddled with STDs?" Poor Kylah, she would be absolutely mortified if she knew this conversation was going on.

Rangin is suggesting that in 9 months Jan is going to see Kylah on his doorstep with a very special surprise and a writ for child support.

LOL. Either way, this is sooooo in the "none of your bleedin' business" category. Don't you think? I mean imagine if three of your coworkers met someone you'd had dinner with and started asking such insinuating questions! Heck, if I were Jan, I would think "Wow, these guys are real sleazes, why are they so interested in the details of their colleague's sex life?"

But it's enjoyable watching this trainwreck nevertheless.

Nah; unlike Collins, Kylah apparently knows what birth control is. (Hence why she's seeing a doctor tomorrow.)

Can she really blame her friends for being worried and concerned for her well being when the guy whose room she came out out looking miserable wanders up and goes "Hi, how is she?"

Can she? She can and probably will if she finds out about it. Should she? I'm not sure. I totally understand their concern and thus trying to find out what Jan meant, but the level of detail they're asking for (e.g. Graham implying she said no but meant yes, Rangin asking if she needs a pregnancy test / morning-after hypospray) seems a leeeeeetle over the line.

But that's human of them, and also very amusing and cringeworthy to watch. Especially, again, imagining Kylah were able to hear what they're asking.

Graham's just trying to probe to see if the guy's a sociopath, just working down his standard hard-bitten checklist...

I wll say that trying to confirm she reached home plate rather than stopping on 3rd base (or wherever) at least to Graham seems like a little more detail than is necessary to rule out that something criminal occurred

Although it was unexpected and highly entertaining

Blame Rangin's study of biology and wanting to ensure Kylah's reputation stays intact,. Sometimes too much knowledge is a dangerous thing.

Her reputation, such as it is, will likely also have to do with Ferguson--if he spreads any rumors, and if her sleeping w/Jan also gets out, she will certainly be seen as the Yorktown Ho.

Yep, that's how I figured he'd play it. I can't say I blame him. He's gotta be thinking: What the hell? Are all Starfleet personnel this nosey about their fellow crew members?

Actually I pretty much knew what Jan's response would be. He's not a bad guy or a sleaze. I was kinda hoping he would be when EH and I were writing our scenes, but EH kept making him way more gentlemanly than expected, the dastard. But I think it's the right choice, not making it a straightforward matter of Jan-as-rapist or pick-up-artist. Things are murkier than that.

Edited to add: Oh my goodness, poor Rangin! He's as hard on himself as Kylah is. No wonder they're a good match. But I'm glad he had that realization. That's the gallant young Starfleet officer I know.

Thanks, choie. I think it made for a more interesting interaction between the two, as well. Jan's a well-heeled guy who likes to get laid (and what guy doesn't?), but he's not a monster or a cad, as I see him.

Even Graham is now convinced he's not a monster or a cad, which is saying something, given his biases.

Pretty awesome personal crisis. (And when / if Graham and Rangin ever talk about it, it will be more Mars / Venus. Rangin feels he's betrayed trust & ideals, Graham thinks he asked a somewhat awkward question, no biggie... )

Elaan's her cousin. And yeah, that wardrobe is out of control. That's why I said that black outfit was tame compared to typical Elasian gowns. (Though the top right orange one is pretty close in style to the one Kylah picked.)

For realsies. I have no idea exactly what Rangin's memories are implying, especially the one about him being so virtuous (and this mysterious woman from his past), but yowsa. Behind this mild-mannered, good-natured guy is a lot of angst. I look forward to someone, hopefully Kylah, opening him up and looking beyond his mask. (Also, really good job on that mask/Coridanite line, CIAS -- great double meaning.)

Now weren't you the one worried that everyone else had angsty backstories except Rangin? Or am I mixing him up with T'Var?

Edited to add: And for goodness' sake, Graham, I'm dying for him to go public with his theory about T'Var/Kylah. Because that's just too wonderful a mixup!

Heh. Well I am being in-game authentic w/r/t Graham's reluctance to broach the subject under present conditions - but also a little meta, waiting for an opportune moment (e.g., coming out (so to speak) with it with only one other crew member around wouldn't be as * (embarrassing? hilarious? more?) as a group).

That's true. I was hoping it'd be mentioned at dinner or at the club, but yeah, it's definitely prudent and more delicious to wait for the entire gang to be there when Graham's girl-on-girl action fantasies are revealed, then crushed.

And by the way, here's a bit of hilarious trivia: At the same point in this mission where Graham received the phone call about the crime -- post #1377 -- in the last mission, the crew had already fought the Sakathians, left the station and were in the shuttle headed for the Yorktown, where Rangin and Kylah were asking T'Var why she wasn't doing anything for comatose Fujishiro.

So we're a leeeetle behind schedule, heh. We've had so many personal digressions that our current mission is finally getting to the crisis point just when our last mission was basically over.

OTOH, we also have much more interesting character developments, so I think it's worth it!

That's really kind of you but you're selling yourself short. I think your writing is very effective and matches Collins's style perfectly. You know, bitchy and terse. No no, just kidding. I mean it's straightforward yet wry, and convey's your PC's thoughts and impressions extremely well.

Who knew there'd be so much angst to fill up the time? There's the Collins/Cooper/baby plot, the intro of Graham and his background plus the beginnings of romance w/Bennett, Collins!Does!Drugs!, T'Var/Kylah's mentorship such as it is, Kylah clashing with Collins, Kylah clashing with Ferguson, Graham vs. Kylah and Rangin, Collins vs. everyone else, Kylah/Velir, Graham's obsession with lesbians, the Sporeape, and oh yeah, the mission. Shit, there's a lot of Kylah in there. Well, I purposely wanted her to interact with all the PCs so at least that was intentional.

So I guess this has been an arc where we fill out all our characters, apparently. Sort of like a bottle episode, except we're also filming on location somewhere in California for all the outdoors scenes.

That's really kind of you but you're selling yourself short. I think your writing is very effective and matches Collins's style perfectly. You know, bitchy and terse. No no, just kidding. I mean it's straightforward yet wry, and convey's your PC's thoughts and impressions extremely well.
I'll just ditto what choie says, you do write well.

And just so they don't feel left out, so do WES, GU and EH.

thanks. I guess what I lack in volume of words is made up for in dialogue, both inward and outward. I've sort of always felt I could write a great script for a play or a TV show, but novels were out of my reach

If you want to talk about writing-qua-roleplaying "I heard that you little shit" is on my Top 10 RPG Moments of All Time.

Edited to add: Although I may have to add myself for Graham's first reaction being relief when he learns the victim's name, which is exactly how he'd react. The only thing that makes me sad about post 1389 is that characterizing Kylah's dialogue as "small talk" wasn't done out loud (which I had to conclude was on character) , so while it will piss choie off it wont (further) push Kylah's buttons...

That's an excellent question that Rangin has pondered to himself. My guess is because the Hsus think the Admiral or his aide is involved. Personally I think Fastolfe is the perp.

Oh you're damn right it pisses choie off! That question was exactly the right question to ask -- the only reason Kylah didn't ask more was because I knew Graham would take on leadership in the investigation and I didn't want to overstep. But geeze, someone had to say something after hearing the poor guy was dead! Hsu must've thought we were pretty weird, hearing "Wilson was murdered" and then all of us silently traipsing after him without so much as a "oh dear" in reaction. Hsu must've thought Damn, either this is one sociopathic bunch or they must get murders all the time on that ship.
