How confused would Graham be if all this happened?! Actually he's probably confused now.

    Monumentally.

And I strongly suspect it is going to get worse before it gets better...

I am sharing this because it made me think of how Scotty was befuddled about not being able to speak to a computer in Star Trek IV.

Well, now you can, but it has potential drawbacks, hilariously illustrated in this vid (context: for those of you who aren't gamers XBox/Kinect really does have great voice recognition of commands, and you can play online with all sorts of folks including random matches) -

I never bought that Scotty would consider a keyboard "quaint." Not every interaction with a computer is, or ever will be, suitable for voice command.

    Only in America.

In Britain, Rangin would go to the nightclub and be making a completely drunken fool of himself on the dance floor as Kylah and Jan walk in. It would then promptly all end in tears.

Graham can't believe his luck. No matter who throws the first punch--the rich jerk with the annoying accent, or his colleague who's been hassling him all night--somebody is going to justify use of force against them...

    to both of you!

I do find it fascinating, and telling of Graham's mindset, that to him, the only two options he can contemplate after seeing Kylah/Jan are: she's either helpless against a big bad man, or she's manipulating a mark. He can't fathom the idea of the gal just being attracted to a guy. You know, as equals.

You get some more quatloos if Graham says "Hey she can screw whoever she wants, I'm just curious to know what T'Var is gonna think of all this." Thus beginning a very awkward conversation!

This is true to a point - but remember, she went all jiggy on him earlier about how this was vital to her career...so he has some non-Graham-psychoses reasons for assuming she didn't just want to go on a date!

Hee. Maybe she's more manipulative than Graham realizes! She just desperately wanted some alone time with the man.

Oh, and just for the record, Collins never shared any curfew / check-in time with the rest of the crew. Kylah, T'Var and Rangin were outside when she had the conversation with Palver, and Graham and Delaney were... I dunno, off pimp-slapping witnesses or something.

I literally just yelled "Oh SHIT!" when I read that. DANG that one's gonna leave a scar.

The sad thing is that both of them are right. I adore that Rangin is standing up for Kylah's right to make her own decisions even when those decisions mean (apparently) choosing another guy. And Graham is right to be concerned, albeit for reasons he can't possibly know.

It's a horrible mix of half-heard sentences, misunderstood reasoning and missing knowledge on both parts, with Graham unknowingly treading on one of Rangin's hot button topics.

...and yes, Rangin did mean that one to burn.

Suddenly I'm reminded of all of Bertie Wooster's comments where he adds, "And I meant it to sting."

But you have to give Velir props. A more petty man would be bad-mouthing a woman who's giving him such mixed messages only to go off with some stranger and start necking. Or more.

In fairness to Collins (and it pains me to say that! ) and Rangin, neither of them could have known that they were pushing specific buttons. Unless Collins looked up Kylah's record, which is highly doubtful -- well, she's Security, I suppose she could've, but it doesn't seem likey to me. She doesn't seem very interested in other people.

Grief, Graham can be self centered.

Rangin has been trying to get on with the job, and spent the morning asking questions at the lab and the afternoon in the hospital. He was also the one who went looking for Hardin and gave the ideas at the dinner table.

Kylah was the one asking lots of questions and doing something by arranging time with one of the guests.

Graham....Graham went sightseeing after threatening someone.

    FIGHT! FIGHT! FIGHT!

But yeah -- departmentwise, Xenobiology and Communications have been showing up Security, Engineering and Medical all day.

Seriously, with all the tension, our next group mealtime, if we have one, is gonna be a whole lot of awkward.

Edited to add: and where is Graham going, anyway? Collins wanted them all to meet up, didn't she? I've lost track of what y'all's plans are for the evening.

    Priceless...

Naturally it's the reverse: to Graham (leaving aside his paranoia), Kylah's "sub mission" is no different (to use 21st Century comparisons) from a linesman going out to climb a light pole to fix a transformer, or a security guard going to make the rounds of a warehouse facility to check the doors.

He simply gets befuddled when Rangin gets upset about "spying" etc...

Yeah, it explains a lot between the pair. Graham thinks that what Kylah is doing is just another routine security mission and he is providing the usual backup using methods he has always used and sees nothing wrong with it and cannot understand why anyone would be upset about it.

Rangin, not knowing the setup for the date, sees it as Kylah operating by herself and having Graham keeping tabs on her as a lack of trust in his colleague, not to mention a complete invasion of privacy, acting like an over-protective father figure and finally using variations of techniques that are used to control and oppress people on Coridan.

Is Rangin wrong? To a large degree he is, but he's blinded to beneficial side of Graham's actions by his ideals on people's freedom not being infringed.

Is Graham wrong? That's not my question to answer

Has Graham never thought of, y'know, contacting Kylah? He could've made that call instead of calling in to Collins. Anyway Kylah did say that before heading to the nightclub, they were first going to get Jan into something more appropriate. Apparently that "something" was Kylah.

The halter top is down, so we are into 15 rated by UK standards, assuming nothing underneath it.

    So

I don't think it will get racy enough for this one though

    Yeah, yeah, but she told Graham she was heading to get Jan changed. She gave her correct location, she just hasn't arrived at her final destination yet. (Neither has Jan. ;

I should mention that lack of a reply right now on Kylah's part shouldn't be taken as meaning anything--I'm waiting to hear back from EH on a certain matter and have to hold off posting Kylah's response until then.

I'm still pretty sure Graham would never ever ever make that "romance novel" crack about a male officer who was kanoodling with a female guest. I'd wager he'd just chalk it up as an off-duty perk and that'd be that.

Yeah yeah but that would entail the balance of how his brain focuses between looking for 'ways things could be ok' versus 'ways things could be going wrong' to be something other than 0% / 110%

A word of caution: Remember that posts in the game thread are not necessarily sequential/simultaneous as events unfold in "game time." There's some leeway as to both the very recent past and the near future.

Given the timescales from Rangin and Graham seeing Kylah to the current meetup in the lobby - I would hazard a guess that Kylah and Jan have only just reached his room by the team's time.

Perhaps they are probably a few minutes ahead on their timestream as opposed to everyone else's.

If true, could be interesting if someone interrupts before the above passages occur

Hmmph. I'll believe that when I see it. Even when their duty is over for the night? He certainly wouldn't be panicking and trying to storm the barricades like Sir Galahad enforcing everyone else's chastity.

CIAS -- yeah, the timeline is definitely wonky! Hence the deliberation with our kindly GM. I need a dice roll, as it were.

Man the fact that Graham is perceived as a violence-prone sexist is pretty harsh.

Although there is the temptation to just go with it

What can I say? I calls 'em like you plays 'em.

I must say I'm enjoying this little power battle between the Security Goon Gang.

Again, please note that Kylah is not responding ONLY because her player is waiting on a ruling from our GM, who very thoughtlessly is out Having A Life. Otherwise, read nothing into it. This is a recording. Please drive safely.

Man. Who'd think we'd have all this drama and internecine tension... and we haven't even gotten to the crisis/mission yet?!!

(At least, I assume we haven't. Maybe this is some kind of psychological game EH is playing with us to see how much our characters can screw up just by interacting and being themselves.)

Is Graham wrong? That's not my question to answer
Well, the fact is that whatever Graham's motivations or actions, the interpretation that Graham is a violence-prone sexist (and anachronistic gorilla etc) is not an unreasonable or implausiable interpretation, as result of his own issues and limitations (or as I might say, 'unique charm' ) ...

Well now, breakfast sure is going to be awkward isn't it. And the Night hasn't even started yet.

I am still trying to work out when Collins' communicator call to Kylah took place, I would have guessed just after Kylah and Jan they had entered the hotel room, but those scenes have continued onwards.

Perhaps EH can tie up the two timelines to give us an idea of where everyone is.

PS: Well written the pair of you.

    Um, you could say that!

I am still trying to work out when Collins' communicator call to Kylah took place, I would have guessed just after Kylah and Jan they had entered the hotel room, but those scenes have continued onwards.
EH can elaborate, but the decision I was waiting for came down from on high -- Kylah didn't hear the communicator because of everything that was going on once they entered the bedroom. So yes, while I think the strict timeline probably would've had Jan/Kylah at the door (as you suggested), apparently we are basically on the same schedule, or at least were at the start of the last Jan/Kylah post.

Perhaps EH can tie up the two timelines to give us an idea of where everyone is.
That'd definitely be helpful! I'm not entirely certain myself of when that call would have occured, although from the "dice roll" decision I was waiting for (Kylah clearly lost her Spot Check throw, if I'm using the D&D term correctly ) did seem to indicate it was some time during the bedroom scene. So you guys are now about twenty minutes behind Kylah, I think.

PS: Well written the pair of you.
Many thanks! We had a lot of iterations to get it right; I really needed to make sure Kylah's internal struggle was expressed just as I intended it to,EH wanted to ensure that Jan doesn't seem like a rapist, and we both wanted the physical stuff to be detailed but not explicit -- although it's now definitely a post-watershed scene, to use UK terminology! Even so, I'm pretty sure it's nothing US daytime soaps wouldn't show (with carefully arranged camera angles so as not to reveal nekkidness).

Now we just need to find out who Collins is going to send to check on Kylah as she hasn't answered her communicator. Oh, the possibilities.

As for the writing, it came across more of a seduction than anything else. Let's see what it adds to the plot and group dynamics in the future.

The timing between Collins & Co. and Kylah and Jan is now pretty much synched. The young officer was already in Jan's arms, more than a little distracted, and simply didn't hear the beep of her communicator in her purse.

And kudos to choie for some great writing!

And now I'm looking forward to see what you can do for the rest of the group for their turn in the spotlight.

I'm always open to ideas, but as I implied before, the next major event will take place overnight. The landing party should make its way back to the Starfleet research station for a night's rest after locating Kylah.
