Run, do not walk, to see Gravity - a great sf movie, with a fine cast, gripping plot, and breathtakingly beautiful orbital scenes. Better yet, see it in 3D - a remarkable experience.

Heh. All I know is that it's involved in The Shining thanks to that documentary that came out a while back. I've never read the book/seen the movie.

However, reading a summary now, is this some indication that

Hmm! I get more of a Hotel California vibe. "You can check out anytime you like... but you can never leave." ("We're lovin' the Wrigley Resorts and Recreation... such a lovely place, such a lovely face.")

Thanks for the reminder about how credits are deducted, EH. I guess Kylah was still too drunk to notice what was going on when Rangin was paying for their bar bill.

(Just as a side note, funnily enough I wasn't planning on having Kylah drink the water. She doesn't trust this place. The water was just gonna be a prop to make her look more casual! But of course, it's no biggie ... assuming she's not poisoned as a result. )

After the left turn you took in that Ferguson conversation I must consider you a GM capable of every possible evil twist.

BTW I'm having lots of fun having my role-playing character doing some role-playing herself. What stats can we give her new character?

Okay EH, are you creating these esoteric names just to make it hard for us to replicate the various diacritical marks?

Also, why is Kylah getting no readings both times she's tried? Is this guy's mind blank?

Just copy and paste the non-Anglo names, as I do, if you wish.

I'll add the mind readings. Sorry, I overlooked that.

Dude instead of zombies I'd be more worried about getting bitchslapped from Collins, or anyrose, or a combo platter of both. Never steal her kill, as it were.

In fairness to Collins, Sam Adams has been around for nearly two centuries already. Well, 1 1/2 I suppose. The Yuengling brewery is 200 years old. And actually, Sam Adams teamed up with Weihenstephan, which is the world's oldest brewery (from the 11th century!!!) to create a sort of Champagne-like beer (bubbly and lighter w/more alcohol). So if somehow Germany's Weihenstephan brewery managed to last through heavens knows how many ancient wars plus two World Wars, it's possible Sam Adams could last through the Eugenics wars or whatever craziness happened on Earth prior to the 23rd century.

All this beer trivia from a non-drinker, yet!

The Sam Adams label has only been around since 1984: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sam_adams_beer

I actually wondered about Collins and Graham ordering alcohol while still on duty - and it's only lunchtime. I suspect it would be against the rules, but no one's there to tell them not to...!

True, but the recipe was formed in 1860, as did the Koch family brewery that created it (although it of course closed during Prohibition). The Great-great-grandson is Jim Koch, the current brand's founder.

In any event if other breweries have survived for a thousand years, I don't see why Sam Adams couldn't. Especially given the historic significance of the name--the original brewery might close but someone else take up the label after Khan was defeated. I dunno, just trying to give Collins an out here.

And whilst I'm at it, I'll defend Rangin's snark a bit: Kylah was the one who implicitly invited T'Var and Delaney. Rangin, being his polite and gallant self, could hardly exclude them. Not that Delaney would've been competition anyway even if he weren't another chauvinistic American (looks like we haven't changed much in 270 years) considering how close-mouthed the guy is.

BTW Memory Alpha sucks when it comes to foods! Most of the interesting named dishes are from post-TOS era aliens. Then again, that's probably not Memory Alpha's fault--I guess TOS-era writers weren't as into world-building as the TNG, DS9, VOY and even the ENT folks. (But I didn't want to use ENT examples since that's not canon.)

Rangin is intending to be a perfect gentleman to both Dr T'Var and Kylah. He will leave the chauvinism to the Terrans.

And I'm sure Delaney's a great engineer and all, but if it came down to having to use his phaser..." Graham makes the shape of a gun with his right hand and points it at himself. "I'm not 100% confident he'd aim it the right way..."
Hmph again! Admittedly Delaney's been fairly useless during his and Kylah's investigation, but he's hampered by, y'know, having been demoted to an NPC. Poor guy.

Heh. Well played. If you--er, Graham--were Irish instead of Scots I'd say he might have the gift of the Blarney about him.

Pourtash too. But actually I'm glad you mentioned that as I was hoping to have Kylah speak to him for a moment. If there'd been time in between the pool and being escorted to the conference room she'd have taken advantage of it, but the dude with the diacritical-heavy name I can't remember right now was in the way! I'll just hope for an opportunity later.

In the meantime I'm enjoying the build-up to... well, whatever horrible crisis is about to occur in this fool's paradise.

I'll let Kylah, Rangin and T'Var wrap up their lunchtime conversation - say, one more post each? - and then bring everyone back to the conference room with Wilson.

Thanks! It's pretty close, really, considering Kylah's background and physical description so far; I did some tweaks to the original model accordingly. Darkened her hair and especially her eye color, lengthened her hair (it was originally about down to her ears), and of course added the ST:TOS uniform and star background. What I liked about this pic of the model was her facial expression. It has Kylah's attitude down.

Ooh interesting! Since I marathoned Orange is the New Black I can hardly picture LP with red hair anymore, but she has a great look.

Lt. Bennett, as noted earlier, is based on Keira Knightley: http://www.wearysloth.com/Gallery/Ac...0803-26902.jpg
