Someone explain to me how buying arugula at Whole Foods means opposing communism. I really don't want to know what's going on in the background picture.

But the background picture I think is meant to be a reference to the Octomom. It actually makes more sense (at this distance) than the arugula one. (And the sign writer could spell all his words.)
Accurate and incomprehensible for the average viewer. Protest WIN!

I wonder if it's a joke. I mean, I guess I could believe it was real, but it could be a prank like that guy who got onto a loudspeaker at a Wal-Mart and announced that all the black people should leave the store.

I would've thought a big chain like that would have HR policies against this sort of thing. Not that it's that surprising, unfortunately.
ETA: Rite-Aid swears that it was someone not affiliated with the store that posted the sign, and that the manager named is a district manager, rather than one that works at the store. I suppose it's possible.
