    Default Glitches with the move

If you've noticed any, post about them here and try to be as descriptive as possible. We're on our own server now and it went fairly smoothly, but there are always little things that end up being "off."

We'll be working the bugs out as we find them, but your help in spotting any will be greatly appreciated.

I saw a cockroach in The Dark Room.
I don't think so, therefore I'm probably not.

Also, some scripts you might want to look at installing on your new VPS.

What would you say about XCache? That was the one you'd recently put on your own VPS, isn't it?

I highly recommend it, but don't bother with the recommended changes to the vBulletin configuration file; the changes only seemed to slow down my site, while straight xcache speeded things up and dropped the server load.

    This should be fixed now.

To confirm: http://mellophant.com and http://mellophant.com/forums worked for me on testing.

This isn't a problem related to the move or the new server. We've had to turn off chat temporarily. CIAS and I are working on resolving the issue.

Private messaging issues since the move and very bad at times since the Chat issue. I find that threads open easily but PMs do not want to open at times.

I can get to the http://www.mellophant.com/forums/private.php page with no problem, but opening a PM seems to hang up.

I also think it might be hitting the board hard as Quick Reply seems to slow down while the PM open is hung.

Also the problem I reported yesterday with the searches not showing recent posts is back.

I made several reports yesterday, I think 3. Did any go through? (All tech reports paranoid people)

One more note: I was experimenting with the New PM that would not open. I moved it to another folder but still could not open. (This is actually worse than yesterday.) Then I tried downloading as text and that got me the message quick. So if anyone else is having an issue that will at least let you read your PMs.

After about 10 minutes, the new posts have started showing in the various searches and forum displays. Also now I could open my PM. You might need to check the scheduled tasks, it could be one of these acting up.

Thanks for the info, I have added some more logging to try and see what is going on.

    Yeah, they showed up.

As noted by quite a few people now we're also getting some problems with double posts.

A few names on my 'Friends' list have been defriended, but not all of them. Is this a glitch?

I have no idea if this is related to the move or not but I cannot get to mellophant.com from my school network anymore. I can get everywhere else on the net but not here. I've tried every browser on my computer and none of them work. IE says it may be a DNS issue so I guess I'll just wait and see if it gets better but if my participation drops it's not because I hate you guys, it's just that I can't get to the site.
I don't think so, therefore I'm probably not.

Ok, so I don't know what the problem is. None of the computers that use my college's network to go online can access mellophant. But if I use a proxy i can get through, but not chat. It's also really slow. if anyone has any suggestions I'd really appreciate them because I haven't got a clue and it's really frustrating.

Assuming it is a Windows PC, go to Run (XP) or Start Search (Vista) and type CMD and hit enter.
It the Command Window that pops up, type ipconfig /flushdns and hit enter. Let it run.
    Exit Command window
Try Mellophant again. Use this link for chat: http://www.mellophant.com/forums/mgc...o=view_chatbox
If it still fails try: http://208.100.19.131/forums/mgc_cb_...o=view_chatbox
You'll have to log in again, but it might work as no DNS issue.

It appears to work if I use the http://208.100.19.131/forums etc etc etc address but not the mellophant.com address. What does that mean?

What the DNS servers actually do is resolve www.mellophant.com to 208.100.19.131

So hopefully the school's servers update soon. The other trick was to effectively hardcode this entry into your hosts file, but that is a fairly complicated procedure. In My Computer you might need to change the options to see hidden and system files and show extensions.

You usually find the hosts file under cwindows\system32\drivers\etc\
The hosts file should be open with notepad.
Then as the last thing in the file you would add:
    208.100.19.131 www.mellophant.com
Save, but ensure you save with no extension, it will want to add a .txt to the file name.

As I said, hopefully the local DNS resolves soon.
