    Default Soda-Pop appreciation thread.

I don't drink soda anymore for a variety of reasons (namely because I am a recovering addict to it, and can't have just one), but I love all sorts of varieties of it. Since as far as I know we've never had a thread like this, here goes.

My greatest love, soda-wise is unquestionably Mountain Dew, in many of it's incarnations. Particularly the recent Throwback, Code Red, Baja Blast (which to me tastes like lime lifesavers), and the very short lived Revolution.

Long gone sodas I enjoyed include Surge, Pepsi Blue, and when I was a youngin' Crystal Pepsi.

For fruit flavored sodas no one can top Orange Crush. I have been very tempted to try the recently re-released Cherry Crush, but have valiantly resisted. I admit, too, that for a lighter orange flavor I like Fresca.

And no particular brands, but I really like sarsparilla and ginger beer.

Coca-Cola (notice they don't bother to call it "Classic" anymore?) is the elixir of life. I also really love Diet Dr Pepper, and occasionally a root beer.

But soda has so much sugar in it that I try to reserve it only for special time.

I love Coca-Cola with an unholy passion. I will drink Pepsi, too, but it's not my preference. Don't care for any other varieties, though. I tried all the non-caffeinated flavors when I was pregnant, and decided just to let myself have one or two Cokes a week and just drink water the rest of the time (and why not, it's a lot healthier).

There's nothing as good as Diet Coke. Nothing. Especially when I'm thirsty and hot and pop one open...that first swallow is always so good. Hell, the first swallow from any can is always so good. I'll drink certain types of root beer, and the occasional Fresca, but my heart belongs to Diet Coke.
I'm still swimming in harmony. I'm still dreaming of flight. I'm still lost in the waves night after night...

I like homemade root beer. If I cannot get that, then I'll take A&W or Mug. I'm so indifferent to other soda pop that I can have a bunch of the stuff sitting in my house for weeks and not touch it. I'm weird, I guess.

I drink Coke Zero pretty often, since it's not basically canned diabetes, but most of my soda love is reserved for things I use as cocktail mixers. I could drink gallons of ginger ale, absolute gallons. I'm a fiend for ginger anything, but a nice potent ginger ale or ginger beer (I like Reed's Extra Hot) is magical, especially in a fat highball. That stuff isn't always around though, so I'm fine with Canada Dry or Schweppes or what have you. Vernors is pretty delicious too.

I now stick almost entirely to diet soda when I drink soda. Problem is all diet colas taste nasty to me and I am not a big fan of colas in general. So it is mainly unsweetened ice tea for me when I eat out.

At home I tend to buy either A&W diet cream, diet root beer and diet birch beer, Canada Dry diet ginger ale or Mug diet root beer. Stewarts Diet Root Beer is a treat.

When I drank cola, I use to drink Coke and loved Jolt. Yes Jolt, all the sugar and twice the caffeine! Sprite and 7-Up where about the same to me.

Irish Diet Coke is great. Apparently the American variety isn't as nice (Check with Mrs. Gadai).

I love several Irish specific minerals (as pop/soda etc. is often called).

Club Orange - Like a cross between real orange juice and Fanta. Sweet, bubbly but full of orange bits.

Red Lemonade - The radioactive, mysterious accompaniment to Whiskey but also refreshing on its own. Urban legend says the prime ingredient is banned elsewhere hence the particularity. See brown lemonade for something similar but not as good

Cidona- Cider, but y'know, for kids. Refreshing, tart, apple flavoured fizzy pop for all and sundry.

Dear God...and I gave up soda.

I actually prefer Pepsi, but believe that a Coke poured by McDonald's is a perfect beverage.

Nothing in all of soda-dom compares to a McDonald's Coke.

I drink more Coca-Cola than is healthy for my body or wallet. The last time I had a Pepsi, it triggered my gag reflex, so I guess that makes me a soda snob. I'm also a big fan of Vault Red Blitz, which is another Coca-Cola product (call it brand loyalty if you must ).

As far as decaf carbonated beverages go, I have recently discovered Izze, which is similar to an Italian soda. The pomegranate flavor is wonderful, and possibly life changing.

    I am an addict.

I love my Elixir of Life. I also like Dr. Elixir, and Mountain Elixir. But my main monkey is found in that red can.

Like Marsilia, I drink too much than is good for my health or wallet. And there's just something about how diet soda feels around ice that is nearly gag-worthy to me. So if I want the flavor the diet stuff just isn't worth it. (What drink soda without ice? What are you, insane? )

Every so often I try to switch to iced tea and/or fruit infused water. It lasts for a while, then the monkey comes and grabs me by the short and curlies.

I love and adore Dr. Pepper and Cherry Coke, although I don't let myself drink them often. Sometimes, I have insatiable cravings for bourbon and cream soda.

I also worship at the altar of Coke Zero, since it's the only no-calorie soda I've tried that doesn't taste like aspartame death.

Yes, McDonald's Cokes are the best. One thing I've noticed about Coke in general, compared to Pepsi, is that they are more reliably good out of the fountain. Don't know if there is a reason for that.

One thing I didn't mention in my previous post is that I can't stand any kind of artificial sweetener, so I never drink diet. Only the fully-loaded stuff for me.

You are so right, Sarah. I don't usually take sides in the whole Pepsi vs. Coke thing, but fountain Pepsi is just awful.

This is a Damned lie. I was at a picnic in the park today. My friend asked me if I wanted some coke, so I said "Of course". She poured me Coke Zero. Of my god, I though I was going to gag. I had started to chug thinking it was coke. Everyone was laughing at me as I ran from the table with my hand over my mouth trying not to spew all over the food.

I was addicted to Pepsi for many years, but I quit over 15 years ago and I won't go back.

The soda that would tempt me today is
