Flyover country or Europe - what do you visit more often?

Europe twice, Kansas once. I've always wanted to go on a East-West roadtrip, and this thread only feeds that urge.
You exclude most of the midwest from flyover country?
Yes - especially Chicago.
Yeah but between Chicago and NYC there's what many inhabitants of those two cities would call flyover country.
No, the lakes area and Ohio are home of the big industries and quite a few people, so I think any American who travels at all will make a visit there every now and then.
Rural NY and PA may count, but don't add that much to the Plains & Mountain West in terms of area.
I've never been to Europe so that's easy.
I've been to Las Vegas NV, Minneapolis MN, Salt Lake City UT, Denver and Gunnison CO, and Fort Worth TX and also driven through rural New York State many, many times and once rural PA.
Oh, you didn't ask but I have lived my whole life in New York state and the Boston area so I'm relatively close to Euorpe, I've just never been there.

Most of my travels have either been to Minneapolis/St Louis/New Orleans and East or all the way to California. I have driven cross country three times though and so passed through with only brief stops much of the open west. I have covered the East pretty well at this point. I take driving vacations often.
I have been to England/Scotland flying East and no other countries of Europe. I drove around probably 10% of Scotland when I was there. It was a self guided spur of the moment driving tour using B&Bs.
By boat I have been to Hawaii, Vancouver, Korea, Thailand, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong and Japan.
I live in Chicago and many of my vacations have been within what you are calling "flyover country." All around the Great Lakes (Wisconsin, Michigan, Ohio), Minneapolis and other parts of Southern Minnesota, South Dakota out to the Badlands, Illinois & Iowa along the Mississippi River, St. Louis, the Cincinnati/Louisville area, New Orleans, etc.
On the other hand, I've not yet been to Europe.

By your definition (I think), I've never been to either. I've visited the midwest, though, including Chicago, Milwaukee, and parts of Ohio.
As for which I'd rather visit if I had the chance.. well, Europe.
I haven't been west of the Mississippi since I was a kid, but I've been to Europe four times. A friend of mine and I were supposed to visit the American Southwest but it fell through. I would still like to do that.
WHOOPS! I misread the OP, didn't realize we were starting at the Mississippi River. Still have had several vacations there, however. I've been all around Arizona & parts of New Mexico, the aforementioned trip out to South Dakota, and a driving trip to California that involved a bunch of stops along the way.Originally posted by Sarahfeena

I've been to most every state on the east coast (the only coast that matters) and to Chicago, Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Dallas, San Antonio and New Orleans. I've only flown to those places, so I've never even driven through much of the "flyover country".
I've never been to, nor do I have any plans to ever visit: Arkansas, Colorado, Iowa, Indiana, Idaho, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, South Dakota, Utah, Washington, Winconsin or Wyoming. I have no desire to go to southern California again but would go to San Francisco, although it's probably #19 on the "places I want to visit for the first time" list.
On the other hand, if you count the UK as Europe, then I've been there five times (UK - four times, Germany + Austria = once).
So I guess "Europe" wins. No big surprise though - I'm an east coaster all the way.
A question: most of my trips to Europe have come about because of cheap airfares from my side of the country. Where do people on the west coast go when they get a case of cheap travel wanderlust? BC? Japan? China? Hawaii? South America? If I were a 21 year-old guy living in California, where can I get a trip plane ticket to?

I've been to Colorado three separate times to go skiing and to France once, so I guess "Flyover Country".
