What OS are you using? If Windows, can you open a command prompt and type "tracert www.giraffeboards.com" and PM me the results? If Mac or linux, open a terminal and type "traceroute www.giraffeboards.com". 7 should be able to get more info on what's going on.

Hmm. Well, I got back into GB for a couple minutes. . .enough to make a few posts, but now I can't get back in again.

Oddly, the two times I've been knocked out are right after I hit the submit button after making a post to 7 in the Box. Coincidence? You decide.

Have you done a traceroute?

When you do have access, you might want to PM this thread to 7 / Giraffe so they can take a look and see if anything was up during the times you couldn't connect.

Thanks for checking, Myrna! I also check Down for everyone and note that it says that the message board is functioning.

I did a traceroute on Oct. 3 when this first started happening and Giraffe first posted in this thread. I sent the results to Giraffe via PM at that time.

Day 2 of being unable to connect to the Giraffe Boards. I haven't been able to connect since Saturday night.

Just in case this is happening to anyone else, these are the things I've tried. I've tried clearing my cookies, renewing my IP address and restarting my computer. Those all don't work.

The last tiime it worked on Saturday afternoon, I had my browser tab open and just periodically refreshed the address that I left open. One of those times, it worked.

I've started a thread there chronicling my connection problems there. I'll link to it when I can get back there, but I'm stuck outside again.

Curiously though, now I can see the status.giraffeboards.com and all the indicators are green. Before when I was stuck outside, the first indicator was red for me.

I'm using Firefox. I tried IE last night but that didn't work either.

I'm wondering if it's a connection problem with my modem. But I can get to every other message board including this one and the SDMB and am thinking that if it was a modem-related thing, it would affect all the other message boards as well. But I don't know enough about it to know that.

Giraffe has given me some suggestions to overcome this connection problem.

I'm posting them here since I won't be able to see them if/when I'm locked out there.

Next time you can't connect, try a few experiments for me:

1. Try going to the site via the IP address

http://192.197.97.4/

2. Try connecting with another browser, e.g. Internet Explorer.

3. Try connecting through a proxy, e.g. anonymouse.org.

4. Do a traceroute (on Windows XP, it's tracert 192.197.97.4 from a command prompt) and save the output. PM it to 7 or I (I know you expressed concern about giving out this info a while back, but note that your IP address is already being logged, which is the extent of the personal info in a traceroute).
