Mel Gibson may soon be writing one of the biggest checks of his life – to his wife.

With no indication that the estranged couple – who married 28 years ago – had a prenup, Robyn Gibson, 53, is legally entitled in their divorce to half of everything the actor-director-producer earned from their marriage in 1980 to the date of their legal separation: A fortune estimated at close to $1 billion.

"This could easily be one of the biggest divorce settlements in Hollywood history," says Los Angeles family lawyer Lynn Soodik, who's not involved with the case. "Any attorney would advise her to take half."

Given his stance on things like her going to hell because she wasn't Catholic, one wonders why it took her so long.

I have long loathed Gibson, and while I know it is icky and bad form to laugh at the troubles of another person, I admit I smiled with evil glee when I read this. Still, if you had been brought up by HIS father, you might be a nasty critter like him, too.

In the Daily Mail(Sorry I was keeping it safe for a friend) it said that hes started his own Catholic church which has been disowned by the Pope because Gibson doesn't accept his authority,female members are required to dress drably at services.

This seems to be a tad hypocritical if hes been having an adulterous affair but then again he is a nutso creep so its not really that surprising.

Possibly, but there comes a point when someone's personal nastiness is their own responsibility, not dear ol' dad's, and that point has to come before you're in your fifties. Lots of people have had crazy, awful parents and didn't end up such freakish hypocrites.
