Yup, 'tis. Thanks.
Anyone else take the quiz?
I didn't take the quiz--unless all the questions are "Who's the captain of the ship?" I'll get a zilch.
Hmm. I have a hard time believing that.
A mere 15. I am lame.
Or maybe that means I had more of a life than I thought I'd had...
Don't worry, general. Your Kirkitude remains 110%.
Yipe, cynical Rangin is beginning to creep me out a bit! :0
(Actually, Nia never called him by his first name since he didn't invite her to. That's why she mentioned at the end there that she hoped he'd consider reciprocating the informality.)
Hmm I can't say I'm very impressed with this new PC, apparently a proto-Ferengi bent on selling useless stuff to his colleagues on the ship. I guess I'll have to see how he develops.
LOL. Tell me about it! Spam reported.
There's always one who just has to be different. I mean Ferengi aren't even in Star Trek until TNG.
Rats. I missed the excitement.
True dat. Although...: http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/A...tion_(episode)
LOL, okay, if Collins gets permission to leave the Bridge a second time while already on watch (as I recall, Singh gave her permission for Collins to leave the Bridge in the last mission too, to see if Graham was awake, and then when Graham wasn't, Collins just hung around reading instead of returning to duty), I'm totally gonna call foul! :D Is this kind of laissez-faire attitude toward assignments--especially on the Bridge--really allowed in Starfleet?
Admittedly there seems to be nothing for those of us on the Bridge to do, at least temporarily. Meta-wise, I assume something will be occurring, of course. But in-game, they don't know that. Maybe I should have Nia start a round of "Row, Row, Row your boat" or tell a few jokes to liven the place up.
Makes me realize it must be boring as hell when traveling from place to place on an interstellar ship, given the vast distances it travels. Do all these officers play FreeCell, Words with Friends or Angry Birds to keep their brains active across the light-years?
Now I kinda wish there were an episode of Trek where we literally just saw them sitting and staring at their monitors or listening to nothing but empty space.
Now that you mention it . . .
mentally runs through the TNG episodes where nothing dangerous was happening, just character enhancing things on board
Heheheh. Good things come to those who wait.
Ha, Jones is apparently telepathic, reading Collins's thoughts about the fingerprints. Collins's reaction was amusing, anyrose.
(It is surprising that Collins thought they didn't scan for fingerprints--she was in charge of the Wilson murder case where there was plenty of that DNA/scanning stuff going on. I guess the miscarriage knocked those memories from her brain, surprisingly enough.)
Can you elaborate on the sabotage stuff for those of us who weren't part of the first mission -- which is all of us but anyrose, now that I think of it? More and more I think we need a Wiki for this game...
Meanwhile, Rangin appears to have gone comatose at the thought of being under Graham's command on the Bridge. Poor guy! :(
In all honesty, Collins isn't the only one with sketchy memories - but I seem to recall that something had been done to a conference room in which the Yorktown officers were supposed to dine with their guests. It was six years ago in real time. And I don't have the patience to reread the entire mission. If I'm wrong, please let me know, and we can chalk it up to Collins having a flashback to one of her Elsewhere induced hallucinations.
You're right. I've been thinking that myself, but just haven't had time to create one. I take some notes as we go but probably not as many as I should. I created an encyclopedia for the USS Monitor VGR-era RPG that WES, general_urko and I were in some years ago, and it got to be quite big by the end of that game.
Yorktown personnel may ask more senior/experienced crewmates, or check ship's records, if they want to learn more about what happened on earlier missions.
Apologies all for the slowdown in posting - work is really quite busy at the moment.
No worries, and welcome back.
LOL, well played, general! I was absolutely not expecting that reaction, but it works perfectly. Heh. Graham really sees everything and makes it fit into the narrative already written in his head. Very human & realistic. (And also funny.)
Also that was a good question about the strange makeup of the group. It's like a bunch of nerdy civilians parachuting down into war-torn Syria without so much as an escort with a BB-gun.
Yeah, but they're Starfleet. Just because it's a Civil Advisory Group doesn't mean that they've not been trained. They could have resigned their commissions to take the post.
Why do I have this image of a small group all carrying clipboards and tut-tutting at everything?
Looks like my last post got ninja'd by CIAS - however, Graham speaking and completely ignoring the fact that Rangin just spoke kind of works if you ask me!
It also works that they have the same fidget
Ick that'll teach me to write a post and then get distracted so I don't have a chance to edit it. Besides the bad wording in a few places, there's the rather significant goof that Kylah says she was stunned on Anubis. But of course she wasn't--she was clubbed into unconsciousness. I think the main money-changer dude was holding a disruptor but I'm pretty sure he didn't use it.
Oh well. Kylah's mind is going loopy anyway. But now we know why at least 95% of my posts have "Edited by..." notes at the bottom! My first drafts always suck. :)
Join the club! I think it might have been Degas who said, "Great art is never finished - it is abandoned."
Going out of town - probably won't post again until Sun. night.
Have a good weekend
Hope you're having a fantastic weekend, EH! Well, the same for everyone else, too. :)
Yes, thanks - relaxed by a rural creek, read, swam, ate well, and visited with a good friend from high school and his family.
Boy, our new spammer reveals that the Doctor really has come down in the world. This never would've happened in the original Doctor Who.
Kirk, shmirk: Shatner and his ripped uniforms showing off some of his chest can take a backseat to Stewart and his bare... almost everything. Check out the bod on our dear knight, from a 1977 production of A Midsummer Night's Dream (as King Oberon):
https://s-media-cache-ak0.pinimg.com...58fda9bccc.jpg
Yowsa!
I played Oberon in a high school production of A Midsummer Night's Dream, and confess I didn't look quite that good (I still remember my first line, though: "Ill-met by moonlight, proud Titania...!").
Ooops...I got ninja'd by EH and have been out since, just noticed, so my post #239 makes no sense in light of #238...
I was frankly astonished that Graham's reaction to the idea of Rangin leading the mission was so understated. I was expecting him to need some sedative.
Nice work by CIAS in post 240 kicking action back to Graham...I'll run with it...
"memory of a goldfish"? Honestly, what an awful...
wait....
what was I about to type?
Hm. I don't remember anyone posting before me...
I hope you appreciate that Nia spares her snark for no one. Kylah's been getting zinged plenty too.
I do enjoy writing her.
Let your snark flow through you....
Oh! Em! Gee!
http://www.intrepidmuseum.org/Startrek.aspx
Let's all go!
eta - obviously not all at once, but still
Thanks! I'll pass it along to some Trekker friends in the area.
It's a traveling exhibit. NYC is just the first stop.
Ugh, these spammers. Hey Mr. Admin in a Suit, may I make a housekeeping request? How about moving this RPG (and its threads) to its own subforum--maybe instead of the defunct one up on top here--and block posting to everyone but us? It's easy to do via a new usergroup or access masks.
Or maybe consider putting all newbies on moderation for their first five posts. It's not like this board gets all that many legit new registrations.
Back to the game, EH, I meant to ask... you mentioned that Cooper was handing out communicators. But don't our characters always have our communicators with us? Why did we need new ones? Unless it's a precaution as a backup considering Kylah keeps losing hers, in which case... smart move! :D
Not all crew actually have their communicators with them all the time when aboard ship. For anyone who needed one, Cooper would have 'em.
If 1920s clothing is required, the ship's Wardrobe Section can provide it on very short notice, as was done for Dr. McCoy in ST:TOS "Patterns of Force," when Kirk ordered the preparation of an SS colonel's uniform for him, or for Spock, who asked for reproduction historic Vulcan clothing in TAS "Yesteryear."
http://memory-alpha.wikia.com/wiki/Wardrobe_section
Well, I figured Kylah wouldn't know about that (remarkably convenient) wardrobe cache, because a) it probably doesn't come up all that often, and b) it's a frankly ridiculous plot contrivance. :D Not your own, but Roddenberry's.
It's bad Trek handwaving away what could have explained any other way (as in Kylah's thievery idea). I mean, are we supposed to believe that the Enterprise kept 1920s clothing on the off-chance that they'd come across the planet made-up of 1920s Earth-type gangsters? In fact, not just Earth-type gangsters, but uniquely American type-gangsters.
What if the planet had discovered a book about 1920s Australian aborigines? Would've been pretty funny for Kirk to attempt to go undercover in a zoot suit and discover everyone on the planet in tribal costumes or whatever was worn in the outback. And do they have every single fashion from every single planet's multiple fashion eras conveniently available in multiple sizes, just in case the ship happens into some kind of time travel situation or a cargo cult based on 4th century Andorians? We'd have to have a ship the size of five Enterprises just to accommodate the costume warehouse!
Boy, the quartermaster will have a much easier job once replicators come into their own. :)
Anyway, a note to everyone:, for the next week (until at least Sunday the 26th) my online time will be way more limited than it usually is, as I'm going down south for a writing retreat/workshop/conclave. Yay! I'll have web access so I'll hopefully be able to post at least once a day, but I just wanted to let you guys know. Feel free to have Kylah knocked unconscious again; it really is her best talent.
Kirk and Spock got their suits off two mugged thugs.
Just thought of - You know how in a lot of movies, when the hero knocks out a thug and dons his garments, they fit. In one of the RPGs in which I used to participate, one that takes place within the James Bond 'verse, it's even a rule. Which is why I've always loved the scene in Raiders where the first uniform Indy swipes is too small so he has to punch out another guy for better fitting clothes.
Yeah, it is a nice gag from Raiders of the Lost Ark.
I just like imagining the Wardrobe Section crewmembers during a Red Alert, hunched over their sewing machines, waiting for an order for 14th century Bolivian sheepherding clothes or 20th century Disco garb.
Hey, I'm still here in Virginia Beach at the writers' workshop/retreat, which is one of the best things I've ever chosen to do, both artistically and psychologically.
CIAS, I'm sorry about the Brexit vote. Although now that I think of it, I don't know how you would've voted, so maybe you don't need sympathy.
EH or CIAS, if there's any way to change the uttery bizarre mistyping in my latest post from "sheet need" to "sheer material" I would be in your debt! Blame my bizarre setup, which is a 10" tablet combined with a very cool compact keyboard that works with multiple devices so you can switch from typing on a PC to your tablet to your phone, if you like to multitask. Still takes some getting used to after 375 years on a regular keyboard. (I only entered the 21st century with a smartphone recently.)
Thanks! Looking forward to doing some detective work in Damon Runyonland. Actually Kylah would fit right in--like Runyon's gangsters, she doesn't use contractions either!
Glad the workshop/retreat is to your liking - hope you have fun. I'll make that fix, unless CIAS already has.
I couldn't find a photo of Earhard I liked well enough so I'm using Clara Bow, who would never look out of place in any situation
...Because she was Clara Bow. :) If anyone could get away with anything, it'd be the It Girl herself! Even Greta Garbo and Kate Hepburn were considered daring (and their sexuality questioned, IIRC) with the trousers, but they looked fabulous anyway and I think we can thank them for making it cool for the early adopters among the regular womenfolk. Well, that and WWII. Rosie the Riveter wasnt gonna wear a skirt.
Thanks very much, EH!
Good to hear the retreat is going well and no, I'm quite happy with the result of the referendum for a variety of reasons. Just a little preoccupied atm.
I'm heading out of town and will be taking a brief break from the game to recharge. My next post will probably be late Monday. Thanks, and hope you all have a good weekend!
Enjoy yourself. We'll be fine.
Have fun EH.
Humblest apologies to all for not being around. The current House of Cards going on is a little distracting
Makes good sense to me. Thanks to choie for the suggestion, and CIAS for making it happen.
I'm watching the Aerial America marathon on Smithsonian. This hour is South Carolina. I just watched a flyover of the USS Yorktown
Yes! I've been aboard her: http://www.patriotspoint.org/explore/uss-yorktown/
A nice ST 50 slideshow, including quite a few pics I hadn't seen before: http://redshirtsalwaysdie.com/2016/0...tribute-video/
The newly-refurbished original USS Enterprise model has gone back on display at the National Air and Space Museum in Washington. I'd say they've done her proud: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/sciencete...ek-series.html
a viable, although incomplete, glossary of Jazz Age slang
Hm, neither "dig" or "cats" (referring to people) are on there--there's a difference between using "cat's pajamas" and calling someone "cat." I'm not convinced "daddy" was typically used in public by average women--particularly white ones--considering it acknowledges her as a kind of gold-digger. (A girl's "daddy" is usually the guy providing her with drinks, jewels and a flat.) Maybe Collins enjoys playing a loose woman. :D Also it's entirely authentic for the Starfleet folks to be unaware of the subtleties of slang used in different decades from multiple centuries ago.
Most of all, it's certainly in character for Collins to ignore recommendations by Kylah, or (more worryingly) orders by Rangin!
It's also funnier for slang to be misused by out-of-their-element Starfleet officers.
A convenient online Treknobabble generator: http://homepage.eircom.net/~fuzzbucket/trek.html
sorry I've been scarce. I expect I'll be even scarcer over the next month or so - I'm facing eviction for non-payment and I am scrambling to find alternate housing - either that or a miraculous decision reversal from the SSA
That's dreadful. I hope you manage to get something sorted out soon.
Ugh anyrose so sorry to hear that, will keep fingers crossed
All sorry to have been AWOL, have been at conference last few days, time got away from me!
Very sorry to hear it, anyrose; hope things turn around for you soon!
I'm sorry, anyrose! That sucks bigtime. I'll keep my fingers crossed that things work out!
Maybe you can all write to the SSA and tell them what shits they are for having denied me in the first place? *sigh* curse me for having a good day when I saw their doctor.
Ugh, yeah, that's one of those double-edged swords, can't-win-for-losing situations--it's nice to have some days where you feel better, but it's not always frequent enough to do much to enable regular employment. I hope you're able to go through the appeals process, or make a settlement with your landlord.
Hey boss? May I make a teensy request? Just a tweak of style, really, no big deal. If at all possible, could you, instead of writing things like...
...go with something along the lines of:Quote:
Kylah is confident that, if she needs to get to either her communicator or her phaser-1 in a hurry, she will be able to.
(You don't need to change this now, it's just a sample.)Quote:
Both Kylah's communicator and her phaser-1 can now be easily accessed in a hurry.
The difference being, describing external statuses rather than emotions, if you know what I mean? By avoiding stuff like "Kylah is confident," the narrative provides the details about stuff our characters can sense/see/hear/etc. outside them. And the players--or just me, maybe no one else cares about this--can stay in control of the PCs' personality/feelings.
In my post it does already seem that Kylah feels that she has room to grab her phaser and communicator. The reason I even brought this up was anyrose's reminder that purses were very small in the '20s. Just making sure Kylah doesn't appear to have a kind of infinite space "bag of holding" (I believe that's the phrase, right?) instead of an era-appropriate item.
It's not a huge deal, as I said, it'd just make me feel less like I've lost agency of Kylah and/or Nia. :) Thanks whatever you decide! And I'm hoping those aliens successfully nudged Rangin into action.
Fair point - thank you. I'll keep it in mind.
No, thank you! :) Cool. Hey, this is probably a dumb question--it's 'cause I don't remember exactly what part of Ohio you're from--but I was wondering, is your area being turned asunder by the crowds attending that little party going on in Cleveland?
The two Iotians shouldn't be that impatient - in game time it's only been moments - I'm just waiting for CIAS to chime in
Sorry - I'm currently melting in the UK. Someone turned the sun up to full.
Yes, I'm not far from where the RNC is meeting. No major problems so far, and Cleveland has gotten quite a lot of good publicity, which I'm glad to see.
And yes, in game time it's been more than moments.
Okay, you stumped me. What is a bio sensor?
In this context, a gadget to use a retina scan, voiceprint, biometric readings etc. to permit entry for authorized personnel.
Ah, thank you! I didn't want Kylah to be as ignorant as I am. :)
So, this mission is an election year allegory. :dubious:
Huh. I actually didn't intend it to be.
well, while half the team is exploring the house, the rest of us are just waiting for the rally to start, so ... ?
Perhaps we forgot to pick up our badges to show our support...
Didn't know if you wanted to do anything else before it started. There was no reaction to what you gleaned from eavesdropping.
Okay, I didn't remember/realize that the guy's name is "Jojo Krako." That's awesome!
Jojo was a man who thought he was in Starfleet
But he's just another mook
Jojo had his mind blown by the Enterprise
Now he wants to ditch the Book
Get back
Get back
Get back to where you still belong
Get back
Get back
Get back to where you still belong
23 Skiddoo, Jojo!
:bravo::bravo::bravo:
I am in awe.
Isn't this a bit meta? Kylah only saw two people dressed in Federation garb. Do two people make a faction?Quote:

Just checked, you're right he didn't. But Kylah speculated (even before we split up and you guys questioned the strangers) that a new cult had formed around Starfleet and the Federation, so I guess we can just say she's going along with her instinct, which... fortunately... happens to be right. For once. :)
A small spoiler from the new movie, Star Trek Beyond, that will interest our gamers:
Spoiler (mouseover to read):
The Federation is shown to have a giant space station called Yorktown: http://img.cinemablend.com/cb/1/0/0/...704859ea89.jpg. No explanation given for the name.
I noticed that! (Well, I didn't see the movie, as I'm anti-reboot, but I did notice it in the thread over at the SDMB.) Did you enjoy it?
I'd give it maybe a B+. Exciting action sequences, good cast dynamics, nice quiet scenes of character development, excellent sfx, funny jokes, and some clever/subtle shoutouts to various incarnations of ST. On the other hand, there were some gimme-a-break implausible bits, the main bad guy's backstory wasn't entirely convincing, and my teenage son and I agreed the climax could've been easily resolved... another way.
B+ isn't too shabby, some good stuff and some stuff you can snark about with your son. :)
Speaking of meta, neither of the teams has been in touch with the other since we separated--which means Graham/T'Var/Kylah don't know that Rangin/Collins/Garcia are at a Trekkie FeddieCon led by Krako, of all people. We're not communicating very well. Which probably isn't surprising given the team configurations!
curse my short term memory and lack of retention skills
Okay.hmm. I guess it's too late to change it, since another character and the GM have moved on
If you missed it on the History channel last night, 50 Years of Star Trek is available on their website until Sept 19th. You'll need to sign on with your cable/satellite/other provider, but it's commercial free, and worth the 86 minutes and 20 seconds.
Thanks, anyrose - a worthy topic indeed.
Heh,, I was wondering about that. Maybe if there's a line in between where the post "cuts" from one scene to another, it'd help?
I thought it was clear, but I'll make it a little more so.
This is a good overview of the history of ST fan films, and in particular the latest Axanar film that launched CBS’s (spiteful, foolish and self-defeating IMHO) legal attack on fan films: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxOkhC8-u3s. I hadn't known that there was an early fan film set aboard another USS Yorktown!
Just wanted to let you guys know this week is going to be rough for me as far as time (and just about everything else). My sister's husband suddenly and unexpectedly passed away yesterday--we don't yet know what happened--and I'm going to be with Kim as much as possible. It's probably all right since Kylah's what the British call 'surplus to requirements.'
(Also as a meta aside, neither Rangin nor Collins know that Graham has been put in charge of the 2nd group--they should still assume T'Var is. You missed a good chance for Rangin to be hella pissed off at the turn of events!)
Anyway. Love to everyone and hopefully I'll be able to poke my head in now and again. This is a sad sad time. He was only 48 and they were married only 3.5 years. And he was a truly wonderful human being.
{{{{{{choie}}}}}}
Very sorry to hear that, choie. Best wishes and condolences to your sister and your family at this difficult time.
No, it was T'Var initially, as senior officer present, but then she relinquished command to Graham due to the Security issues that had arisen.
Okay then - we'll justify it that Collins is more comfortable communicating with Graham :D
(((((choie)))))
Oh my, that's horrible news. My condolences to your sister.
Likewise, choie, condolences
Thanks very very much, guys. It's been so difficult. The funeral is today and I'm giving a eulogy plus singing, because I'm a masochist. But the real struggle will be helping my sister in the long months ahead.
The game will be a good diversion, so bring it on!
We aim to please. Keep your chin up, choie! We're all in your corner.
Weekend trip to Washington - back online late Sunday.
Have fun
oh goodie, Collins messed up again :LOL:
Back home, and off to take a look....
BBCAmerica is celebrating Star Trek's 50th anniversary with an uncut marathon of seasons 1 and 2, beginning Thurs 9/8 8:00pm (East coast North America) through 3:00 am Monday 9/12. It will, unfortunately, have commercials, but we'll take what we can get :D
Cool! Remastered, or the original prints?
Not sure - all they said in the promo was "uncut". Oh, and it starts 8:30pm, not 8:00pm
He tries not to smile too much at the thought that Graham would fit in right alongside the muscle in this room, and hopes that T'Var is managing to keep a muzzle on that maniac.
:bravo:
Happy 50th anniversary of the premiere of "The Man Trap," the first aired episode of Star Trek: The Original Series, all!
watched ST on BBCA last night - and in the first few episodes, there were a lot of female crew members in slacks and a top, so Collins isn't so "out there"
You're right. As we discussed awhile back, she just wouldn't have worn a uniform from "The Cage" era by the time she came aboard the Yorktown.
Hey, all. A Piece Of The Action is on BBCAmerica Sunday 9/11 7:10 a.m., east coast North America
Good to know - thanks, anyrose! That episode's been on my mind a bit lately, y'know...?
Couple questions:
1. Isn't BBC America supposed to have a majority of programming that's, y'know... British? Because since I subscribed (via sling tv), most of what I've seen are bloody TNG marathons, with an occasional Gordon Ramsay reality show (and the crappy American ones, not even the great Kitchen Nightmares UK version!) tossed in for good measure. Don't get me wrong, I love TNG, but that ain't why I wanted BBC-A. I can't figure out the logic here... why ST:TNG? Is the tenuous link due to Patrick Stewart?
2. Good lord, is Kylah's high CHA eve gonna work for anything other than having guys sexually attracted to her? I'm She's been constantly workin' my her tail off throughout the missions to sell good stories, but the hapless girl almost never convinces any NPC of anything. I thought the ability to persuade and influence others was the prime benefit of CHA. Or is Kylah's crappy Luck stat clashing with her top-rated Charisma? :D
BBCAmerica does show other things, like Dotcor Who and Sherlock, and sciencey programming, and way too much Top Gear. They produced Orphan Black, and a few other originals, but because a British TV season is only a dozen or fewer episodes, and because seasons can have years between them, they fill it with ST:TNG
Yes, but... but... there are thousands and thousands of hours of proper UK television to show, not just current stuff! They could fill every single hour with Corrie or Eastenders alone, and not exhaust the supply for several years! Or classic Doctor Who if they must pander to the newbie Whovians.
It's been a terrible disappointment. Like signing up for ESPN and only seeing reruns of Webster, Hunter and Father Murphy because Alex Karras, Fred Dwyer and Merlin Oleson used to be football players. :D
Taking advantage of the BBC America marathon, this weekend I've watched TOS "The Doomsday Machine," "Operation -- Annihilate!" and "Mirror, Mirror." Good stuff, and they are indeed the remastered versions with updated sfx.
When she's tried to strut her stuff and use her CHA lately, she's usually been going up against a greater imperative for the NPC. No reason she can't keep trying, though.
Jolly good. Well, I/she will keep trying, but I swear, I don't think this gal could convince a cat to chase a mouse! :kitteh:
I wish we'd all thought to watch "A Piece of the Action" as soon as the mission started. In fact, we should have watched "This Side of Paradise" before beaming down to OC3.
If our next mission is to a "sequel" of a TOS episode, we should watch it (Netflix/YouTube/OnDemand) before we get too deep into the story
Why did Krako suggest Rangin, Collins, and Garcia to change into "civvies"? We were already wearing period clothing.
I found a piece of fan fic in a ST group on facebook. Haven't read it yet, but I thought y'all would be interested
Hey, who's this 'we,' paleface? I watched TSoP and read the transcript of APotA! I've also rewatched Elaan a few times and have the transcript bookmarked, but that's unique to me for KylahBackstory Purposes.
I wish we'd all thought to re-read the current mission before playing the current mission. (Aw, just kidding, but you kinda walked into that one, girl!) Krako's talking to the guy he was just ordering around--Bullo. Not to the three of you.
re programming: Each national BBC subsidiary has tremendous autonomy/power - so the US BBC general manager (or whatever his/her title is) can make whatever deals they want to hit their numbers (and earn their bonus). In the modern digital era this geography-based model that's been around a long time it is kind of a big pain in the ass for BBC UK HQ because they don't necessarily have control over worldwide rights to even some of their own shows. (--BBC UK is a customer).
I'll be on the road for a long weekend; after tonight, let's take a break in the game until Sun. evening. Thank you.
Drive safely and have fun
Safe driving and have fun
Thanks. Off to the Civil War battlefields of the Wilderness and Spotsylvania, Va. with some friends.
Thanks for the info, general_urko! Yesterday I was certainly at a loss as to why the Charlie's Angels films were part of BBC-A's programming. It kinda boggles the mind to think American viewers tuning in to something branded as "BBC" would be pleased by that sorta thing.
Have a fun time, if that's not too irreverent, at the battlegrounds, EH!
No, thanks, it's not too irreverent. There is plenty of serious stuff to learn, but we also have fun and enjoy each other's company.
Well, technically she was talking about the mini-team; she didn't feel the need to reveal the rest of the crew's existence. So, everything was the truth, just... not quite the whole truth.
But yeah, Rangin did indeed irk her. And judging from his reaction, he doesn't even know what he said that pissed her off! Just imagine if he could see her fawning act over Graham right now.
Great dialogue Elendil's Heir and choie! :bravo:
Thanks, general_urko--though it might've been better if I hadn't completely misread Okmyx's response regarding the timeline of the meeting vs. the kidnapping! I swear I thought he'd said that the meeting was only an hour or so before he'd heard about the kidnapping. Embarrassing for Kylah to have to suffer because her player's a numpty.
And as always I'm enjoying Graham's thought processes. Kylah really needs to shut up and let him get a word in edgewise. Though I'm inclined to agree with Graham, I'm not convinced Okmyx knows anything useful, or he is a master dissembler.
(Actually I was looking back at the early parts of this mission--back in June, good lord, I think only 2 hours have passed in four months!--and came across the scene where Rangin picks who should go on the mission. Nia was there! I almost forgot about her, not to mention her message to Graham that he never got a chance to read. And I forgot how relentlessly bitchy she was toward Kylah, too... at least, mentally. I look forward to seeing her again!)
Thanks, general. And choie, you're all doing fine. The answers are closer than you might think.
Sorry all - I'm going to be gone for a few days - life just took a turn for the worse - I'll probably be back after the weekend.
Takes some hugs with you for fortification
When times are dark CIAS draw comfort from the fact that your nation is not actively debating an orange haired maniac for head of state.
Why do humans seem to run the Federation, anyway?: https://imgur.com/gallery/wpZ4w
Sorry I've been scarce. I may yet be for a few more days. My SSDI appeal hearing is Wednesday. I am stressing big time.
Hope it goes well! We're in your corner.
Best of luck to you, anyrose. I can only imagine how stressful that must be.
Gosh this seems to have been a rough couple of months for us. :(
P.S. Graham seems to have Poland on his mind, with all the Krakow mentions!
Woohoo! Kylah's CHA of 12 finally pays off! Either that or she's rolled a natural 20 on Diplomacy. :) As far as Cledd's looks go, the earliest pic I could find of a younger Anthony Caruso version of Bela Okmyx is here: http://www.historyforsale.com/produc...peg/295783.jpg
Is this about right for the guy? If so, he's pretty good-looking... not surprised he's popular with the ladies!
More seriously, I hope everyone's doing okay with their various real-life challenges.
Good find! Cledd, in my mind's eye, is younger, thinner and more hard-edged, but that's not too far off.
Cool! I was hoping to find something from his brief appearance in Watch on the Rhine, when Caruso would've been in his late twenties/early thirties, but could nab this one from what's probably about a dozen years later. Dang that guy had one helluva long resume! Alas thanks to typecasting it was mostly playing gangsters and the occasional "Chief Blackarrow" in umpteen TV westerns.
Life sucks but is a little quieter now, I'll try to get back into the game.
Thanks, and welcome back, CIAS. Hope things get better for you soon!
I hope so too, CIAS.
In the meantime, watching Rangin/Collins deal with their side of things is like listening to someone attempt to figure out the famous logic puzzle involving a farmer who has a fox, hen and bag of grain he needs to get across a river, but only has a boat big enough for two. Closer... closer...
Hey! I resemble that remark! :RAEG: :D
truth is, I've not been able to concentrate due to worrying about things. So :( I only skimmed all the goings on in Okmyx's office.
I hope things went well last week, anyrose, and that you'll have the answer soon. Totally understandable that your mind's on other stuff.
I'm thinking HALLELUJAH SAINTS BE PRAISED!
And for the record, it's: the farmer rows over the hen first, leaving fox/grain on the shore; he then comes back for the grain, leaving the fox on the original shore. Depositing the grain, he rides back with the hen. Then he takes the fox over to the shore, where it'll wait with the grain. Rowing back alone, he comes back for the hen. Voila! Of course what I've never understood is why a farmer owns a fox in the first place.
Thanks. The hearing was painless, and the lawyer said it went our way, as much as these things can. If you didn't read my comments on facebook or the Dope, even their employability expert agreed I cannot work. Now I just have the interminable wait for the judge to hand down her decision and my payments to start
Dang people, I know it's likely many of us are walking around like the Sakathian zombies due to the real-life horror of the election results, but we've got some hostages to save!
(P.S. I'm very glad the hearing seems to have gone well, anyrose... I'll keep fingers crossed that the judgment comes quickly and in your favor!)
I'm getting Brexit deja vu all over again.
Congrats, anyrose, and I hope things get better for you very soon.
CIAS, agreed. And at times like this, a little jaunt to the 23rd century can be a welcome escape....
I forget you folks aren't necessarily my Facebook friends.
I got a fully favorable judgement in Monday's mail.
On my way out of voting on Tuesday, my power wheelchair jumped a curb and I fell out onto my right side. I have a fracture in my femur at the base of my artificial hip. I don't need surgery, but I'm in a hospital and will be for the foreseeable future. I haven't been keeping up with the storyline, because the pain meds make it tough to concentrate. How about Collins gets knocked out or injured and has to be beamed back to the ship for the rest of the mission
Oh shit that's awful, I'm so sorry! I've been doing very very little FBing since Tuesday for my own sanity, so I didn't see! Jesus, out of the frying pan into the fire. I'm glad about the positive decision being fast but what a terrible thing to happen right afterward. Please please take care of yourself and I hope you get well and the meds at least work keeping you at a minimum of pain.
So sorry, anyrose! Hope you feel much better soon. I will run Collins for you, if you like, until you're up to returning, or I could just have her beamed out, as you say.
Holy cow....yes anyrose hope you feel better soon
National tragedy aside, Google bought our company and we are being assimilated...er, onboarded this week and next so I've been a bit preoccupied!
Hope it turns out to be a change for the better, general!
Ouch anyrose. Get well soon.
Good luck with Google GU.
Congratulations (I hope), general! That's pretty frickin' huge and no wonder you're distracted!
OH MY GAWD, you guys! This is awesome! Thank you so so much!!!

:) Use it in good health.. or at least, use it to entertain yourself until you're in good health again!

Many thanks for arranging the gift card, choie (cool graphic, too - I can almost see Kylah at Communications and Onn at the Helm), and get well soon, anyrose!
OMG I didn't realize I was AWOL for 5 days! Apologies everybody.
#turkeycoma
A good pumpkin pie will knock you for a loop, too....
anyrose looks like she'll be out of the game for awhile yet, alas, and has suggested Collins's return to the ship for the time being. choie offered, and I have approved, bringing Onn into the story - hence the latest developments in the game thread.
Apologies all - it seems 2016 is going out the way it came in.
I'll catch up shortly... I hope.
ETA: EH, thanks for playing Rangin.
I hope things get better for you and the 2016 curse will be lifted sooner than expected.
(Ironically, Nia was primarily tossed in there so Rangin would have a fellow PC to play with while Collins was out. This side of the party feels like a horror story where one by one, the leads are turned into phantasms!)
You and anyrose are sorely missed. Although EH, you're doing a great job juggling even more NPCs than usual. Thank you!
Indeed very best wishes and fingers crossed for both CIAS and anyrose
Warmly seconded. Hope things very soon get better for you both, and we look forward to your return here.
Indeed, Nia bonks herself in the head for having completely forgotten that not only does Collins outrank Rawlings, but the young Assistant Chief of Security has such a unique physiology that she can simultaneously exist in both the Yorktown sickbay as well the apartment building! :D :D
That bit might need to be tweaked, heh.
