Just a friendly suggestion... you don't seem to have any clue what you're talking about, ever, so you might want to bring cites to discussions where you intend to make boldly incorrect statements. Likewise for your amusing knee-jerk habit of labeling anything you disagree with as an "out and out lie"... there's a tool out there called "Google" which can help you puzzle these things out before you stick your foot in your mouth. You're not ITR Champion from SDMB by any chance, are you? It feels like his MO though I think he's a bit smarter than you. Either that, or you're just trolling.

Wasn't ITR Champion really big on God and/or Jesus, to the point of insulting people who weren't? I haven't seen any of that particular kind of blather from MC.

Probably two different people. It's not like there's a shortage of bloviating idiots.

Misanthropic Contrarian has already earned some time in The Box on Giraffe's board. Come visit, if only to poke him with sticks through the bars!

Although I suppose it hasn't been much fun for him in The Box. Perhaps that's why he's been making a stink over here.

I thought I might be the only one noticing MC. He stomps into a thread, says stuff that usually bears no relation to the previous posts, calls someone a liar, then disappears. It's weird.

I believe MC's sentence ends at noon Monday. Of course, last time he was only able to go for 60 minutes before getting Boxed again, so we might want to have bets down. (I'm not sure what the over/under is, but I probably wouldn't bet the over.)

I found VC03 with his outrage meter set to 11 over everything endlessly amusing; I find Misanthropic Contrarian tiresome; he adds nothing to most discussions he's in, not even entertainment.

No matter how much time I spend on the internets, it never stops seeming surreal watching people like him. If it's a deliberate put on, it's not interesting or funny or anything, and if it's genuine (which is what I suspect) it's just sad. I think he actually believes he is intelligent and has things to say that are worth hearing.

VCO3 was awesome, no two ways about it. Some of his trolling was really excellent, like the one thread where he managed to get half the people on the SDMB into a steaming, frothy rage because he supposedly put caffeine in someone's decaf espresso drink. That one was a work of art.

It was more than that. He put four shots of espresso in someone's decaf, (which would probablyy trigger a seizure for me), put rich cream in someone who mentioned being lactose intolerant, made some kid's drink extra hot, etc. (Oh, and then when he got his ass chewed out, back pedaled and said-oh, I was just kidding!!!) I think that was what got people pissed at him.

Most of the time, though, it was him freaking the fuck out about stupid shit. Guy was really like watching a trainwreck...that the Hindenberg had just crashed into. Really a fascinating case study. An asshole, but an entertaining one. (Kinda like Wildest Bill, though in a different way)

I think I would rather watch a train crash into the Hindenberg. Damn, that would be awesome. Especially if there were cowboys robbing the train at the time. And there were Nazis on the dirigible. And ninjas. Plus, aliens.

I take it you're not an epileptic? Yes, that much caffeine would probably cause me to at least have a focal-at LEAST.

Mind you, I'm saying the thread wasn't amusing. Just that he certainly deserved every pile-on he got. (Much like Bill did. Melt-downs and pile-ons can be fun, you know?)

You seem to have a lot of diseases, Guin. That's all.

Anyhow, someone who really did have a legitimate need to avoid caffeine wouldn't be drinking espresso drinks. Realistically.

Of course not-which is why I wouldn't order one. And dude-I have OCD and epilepsy. (And ADHD as a kid-but that's probably related to OCD). I don't see how that's "lots of diseases."

Yeah, people definitely overreacted-the assault, lawsuits, hospitals, blah blah blah. However, I think if I were lactose intolerant, and someone deliberately gave me cream...I think I'd probably be ready for some "over reaction."

Okay -- now in what conceivable circumstance could you miss that your purportedly milk-free coffee drink is full of milk?

Guin, explain this to me, since you're probably one of the people here most prone to do it: what is with the urge to turn something like that into a crazy melodrama? Inventing imaginary circumstances in which, theoretically, some customer whose drink order was screwed up was going to die -- what's in that for you? He probably put a shot of real coffee into someone's latte once or twice, and realistically there's about a 90% chance the person never even noticed -- so why the self-righteous invention of imaginary medical conditions (if I remember right, people in that thread eventually ended up arguing about whether or not caffeine allergy exists, for instance) to justify the outrage?

You (and others) resorted to proposing some very unlikely confluences of events to invent a scenario in which someone could, conceivably, have been mildly injured by his drink shenanigans. Why? Obviously the outrage came first and the "okay but maybe the customer was the one person in 100 million who has a caffeine allergy and yet they drink lots of cappuccino anyway but they'll just DIE if a drop of real coffee passes their lips" came second. So why the outrage in the first place?

I'm asking out of genuine curiosity because that thread was really puzzling to me. It's obvious that the actual impact his pranks had (assuming they did indeed happen) was minuscule. He didn't even report doing anything disgusting like spitting into someone's drink or whatever. What made that thread so very, very hilarious was the fact that the actual crime (if it ever existed) was so minor and the response was so very disproportionate. What is it that makes people get so very OUTRAGED over basically nothing?

It's part of the same mentality as expecting the rest of the world to share in your responsibility - I am sensitive to caffeine (as in I get very jittery if I drink it), so to prevent some coffee shop asshole from juicing me up, I don't order coffee. Yeah, you should be able to count on getting what you order, but if you can't live with the circumstances if they mix it up (on purpose or by accident), don't put yourself in that position. It makes life a lot easier than expecting the world to accommodate your foibles - the world doesn't care.

Pretty much what I was going to say. People are assholes. The people who make your coffee are assholes, too. Hell, sometimes it's not even malicious and is just because management sucks. I once overheard someone being instructed to combine a pot of regular with the rest of the decaf, so as to save a few cents and not have to brew a new pot of decaf.

If I had a problem with caffeine or milk, I think I'd avoid Starbucks. With so many "special order" people drinking there, the baristas must be sick to death of these requests.

Or beyond that, the barista just grabs the wrong coffee when they make your espresso shot. Besides assholery and deliberate corner-cutting, you just can't assume the person behind the counter is perfect and never mistakenly grabs the wrong thing. That's why I don't buy that anyone is likely to actually be injured -- if you know that you are, for whatever reason, so sensitive to caffeine that you can't have any of it at all, you're not going to order a cappuccino, right? (Assuming, for the sake of argument, that the residual caffeine in decaf isn't enough to make you sick.) All of those imagined scenarios in which someone's health would be seriously compromised were just obviously unrealistic to me.

Speaking of black people, has anyone invited Monstro and You With The Face? I mean, not because they're black, but because they tended to respond to those "what's with black people" threads (in their patient-but-exasperated sort of way.) I loved those two.

I don't know how distinct the taste difference is between non-dairy creamer and half-and-half, so I can't answer there. I'm just saying I'd be pissed if someone spiked my drink, (however he did it) I'd be pissed. And by "over-reacting", I wasn't talking about the whole, "I'll die if I have a droplet of caffeine!*" I meant more if I spend my day on the toilet with a raging case of the shits, I'd want to beat the raging shit out of HIM.

I'm not all that emotionally involved, dude. I just think the guy's an asshole, and that if you're in food service, fucking with someone's food is an asshole thing to do-no matter what way you do it. Okay? Can we just end this stupid hijack? I'm sorry I got involved. Yeesh.

*I've never had a huge problem with caffeine-but I don't think I could do four shots of espresso. Diet Pepsi is pretty much my limit. (I usually order hot chocolate or a steamer.)

Oh, and I hate Starshmucks. I always got my coffee (decaf or other) in the morning at the local 7-Eleven. I could fix it myself, and mix it up with different flavors (like chocolate AND Irish cream creamer), and it's cheaper. And the old guy who worked there was soo nice. And I have my beveridge card-you get a stamp for everyone you buy, and after five stamps, the sixth is free. And then you can start over.

Oh, and MY favorite VCO3 thread was when he asked if it would be a problem if he took a little electronic project to work on while flying, and then when people said it wasn't such a hot idea, he flipped out. Hehehe...good times.

I do have to say that although I live in the Northwest, land of peculiar and exacting coffee requests, I've almost never seen anyone be rude to a barrista in Oregon. I can't speak for the fine people of Seattle, of course.

And that's one of the fun things about the Net, but, like I say, it's why the troll issue is never going to be resolved by DNFTT.

I always kind of liked VCO3. He was like the lame brother in law in a bad sitcom-- the Potsie of the SDMB. MisanthropWhatever is more like Archie Bunker w/o the social commentary/satire. He's tiresome.

I like some troll threads. I had a great time in the (now locked) Tipping thread over at SDMB. I look forward to just such a thread here, someday....

Awww, it's now locked? That tipping thread rocked.
(I haven't been over there in about 24 hours...I would have seen it was locked eventually, but now I know to expect it).

That "When is sexism okay?" thread is another gem. : )
