    Default Refugees from the MMP

Well, it seemed natural, if some of us are gonna hang here that there's bound to be some Mumpers showing up and it's only right there should be a spot to be nice in, dammit!

I cloned the hot tub, there was already a Rm 304 installed when I got here (go figure!) and there was a box of chocolates over in the corner but I eated it, sorry...

    Any other Mumpers about?

I've always kinda wanted to be a mumper, but never really felt like I could relate. Something like a clique I didnt' feel I was a part of. Not that I wasn't wanted, or wouldn't have been welcomed. I just felt like it was a complete group without me.

But, with a new start, I'm thinking I could get in from the ground floor. If someone starts an MMP on monday, I'll try and get in on it.

One of the greatest things about the MMP is that it's one of those places where you can jump in any time, or duck out any time and it's cool. You'll always get a welcome, somebody's always interested in what you've been up to, and some of the best recipes around go through that thread! Speaking of which, allow me to flog the Mumper's Recipe Blog, a compendium of collected recipes from the MMP. It's a good thing...

Brewha, I'll go sit at the Mumpers table on Monday if you'll sit next to me and hold my hand so I'm not scared!

Like you, I found them a sweet group, but intimidating. Not because of any unfriendliness, but because they just seemed...complete. Exactly. Perfect word choice. I'd love to join in now that it's a teensy bit less complete - here, anyhow.

Another Mumper here. Truly, we are a friendly a bunch, and anyone new just makes the group more complete.

At any rate, I thought I'd pop in here and see what this place was all about. I haven't finished all the threads yet, but since I saw Smartie here, I thought I'd add my voice to the chorus.

Well, y'know, it wouldn't be a refugee board without a spot for Mumpers and since I seemed to be the first one here I just had to jump all over it on account of being such a total attention whore!

I just have this feeling of foreboding hanging all over the Dope and it's both de- and oppressing. I hate, hate, HATE being treated like a child AND I have this huge button about being told my language is inappropriate and/or being silenced and censored. I realize that I overreact to it and I'm really trying very hard not to go off all over mealy mouth Ed and supercilious bitch Bodoni (cette conne!) but I'm afraid that without a pressure release I'm gonna end up on the wrong end of the banstick...

Why yes, the House at Grrr Corner did get cloned, why do you ask?

Srsly, WhyNot & Brewha, you'd fit right in to the MMP, don't be shy about dropping in--here or there!

I never bothered opening the MMP threads on the SDMB. Can someone briefly explain for the n00b what it is and how one goes about participating in it?

You just talk. It's almost a mini-MPSIMS; just whatever's happening to you and anything you want to talk about. I think. I'm pretty much still a newb too.

And I really should put on pants and eat something and get to work...

I used to be an MMPer, but when I went back to work full-time, I just never had time anymore. That thread moves fast!
Mebbe I can participate more over here.
I'm not good at the advice. Can I offer you a sarcastic comment instead?

Or at least two out of three anyway...

Yeah, the MMP is the most hijacked thread possible, it's basically just a silly "whassup" diary style thread, totally stream of consciousness and about 99% social. What you had for breakfast, how many times the cat barfed in the night, by the way I'm getting a divorce, cute thing the new boyfriend did, horrible thing the old boyfriend did, just whatever the hell is on your mind at that moment, spliced in with comments on other Mumpers goings-on. Everybody gets a nickname, flirting is encouraged and it's all about the nice. The MMP is a comfy coffee shop full of squashy couches where you can put your feet up on the tables and nobody cares if you have a food fight. In spite of being a total Pitizen I find myself drawn back to the MMP every day--the SDMB isn't as much of a chatty board as some are, and the MMP serves that purpose all in one unobtrusive thread...

That wasn't it for me. It was just the sheer size of the group and the threads. Just too much for me to keep up with.

No, I'm not abandoning the Dope; just keeping my options open. You've been there awhile rosie, even you must concede the tone has changed. Not in the MMP, but elsewhere on the board. It's like everyone is walking on eggshells, or conversely, just DARING the mods to ban them by pushing the envelope.

It's tiring and I'm sick of the drama. I'm staying out of it, and don't plan to participate in any threads where there's wailing and gnashing of teeth.

Yeah, but those nicknames give me Anne McCaffrey flashbacks!

I'm catching up on the current season of Nip/Tuck that I didn't even know was on--man, this show imports its own shark tanks every week for creative waterski leaping, I swear... It used to be just gloriously trashy, now it's really way far over into the queasily sleazy realm. Why do I subject myself to this? Why??????

Me neither, fezzer, at least not IRL... My given name is short and it suits me such that nobody's ever felt the need to hang another name on me. At least I never got a BAD nickname--a friend of ours answers more readily to his nickname of "Dildo" than he does to his real name. Unfortunately, he had kids and we all had to break ourselves of using his nickname because who the hell wants to be responsible for two sweet little girls asking why everybody calls their daddy "Dildo?" Awkward, y'know?

So leave out the apostrophe then.

I don't exactly have a RL nickname - my name gets shortened by my family, but no one else. I'm supposed to get called Kitty at Faire, but no one remembers.

I'm just looking on this as a whole 'nother place to play, only with my favorite people to play with! Without that constant overlooking feel of being corporately owned and at the mercy of people we can't even contact, let alone reason with. Plus, it's fun to be on the ground floor of a new thing, and I think there's a definite opportunity to create something unique--not just a reactionary kneejerk "fuckyou" board, but a community that has its own distinct style built on the bones we take from the SDMB.

Okay, testing my MMPer skills before the first official MMP:

I've been stressing/procrastinating over this online quiz in my Microbiology class, and I finally took it and it was, well, it wasn't easy, but I got an A on it first try! It's unlimited tries, but the questions change each time, and only the most recent score is recorded. I got 20/22, or 90.9%, which is an A. I'm fine with that; don't want to take another and risk getting a worse score!

Dissection in Anatomy class tomorrow. Woo-hoo! Nothing like cutting up some bunnies and gettin' high on Bioperm! (I don't care what they say, it is NOT fume-free!)
