Anyone ever hear of a Futon cum bed?

Well, I know what it is and how it works. It's the insertion of the word "cum" in the title. I've never heard a Futon described that way. Was this his special bed for hookups? Maybe it's the spare bed for drunken house party goers to get to know each other?

Well, I had considered that. But, the majority of CL readers are going to associate the word with a male expulsion not a Latin preposition. I really hope you are correct, however.

I've heard it used to descibe something that's not really one thing or another but sort of a mixture of the two. So a futon-cum-bed (with hyphens) means it's some kind of futon/bed thing.

I always thought a futon was a couch that doubles as a bed. It's composed of a flat mattress on a sofa frame that bends to form a flat bed. They're favored by broke students and my mother. (I sleep on one when I visit.)

"Futon" is the Japanese word for the mattress, without the frame. Traditionally they were placed for sleeping directly on the tatami mat flooring. However, in the west "futon" has come to mean the mattress combined with a frame that can be used either as a seat or as a bed.

My bed is a futon mattress on a flat bed frame. It does not turn into a sofa. This confuses a surprising number of people.
