Indeed and if you can't play the game, I hope you can still kick my arse continue to provide guidance at chess![]()
In the land of the blind, the one-arm man is king.
Graham invites Kylah out of a storm of ice and snow into his warm home, where there is a roaring fire in the hearth and well-positioned comfortable seating. Kylah gets really angry, then cries, and then does something that reminds him of something he feels terribly guilty about in relation to his daughter, his late wife, or both.
Rangin clearly has a higher Luck score.
Also more charm, I suppose
Well no he *is* more charming![]()
Kylah is walking in a snowstorm and sees two men standing by a pair of log cabins. The younger of the two sees a slimy beast near Kylah and, together, though they are both injured, they successfully fight it off. He is the first to back up her refusal to obey a mission leader who makes a tasteless and spiteful order to handcuff a man with his dying--and about to be turned into killer zombie--wife. He is unassuming, curious, and never raises his voice but stands up for what he believes in against more powerful people than himself. Eventually he invites her into his house.
She turns to the other man. He is the same age as the uncle who basically has been holding her leash since she was 12; boasts of beating an unarmed prisoner to death; tends to violate her personal space by looming over her and holding onto her; is pals with the abovementioned mission leader who seems to hate her; and purposely intimidates a harmless guy with the same knife used to threaten him earlier. Despite other moments of unexpected kindness, he seems to be an unpredictable, violent man who abuses authority with vulnerable targets. Eventually he invites her into his house.
Kylah darts into the first man's house as the second man looks dejected and pouts, then probably takes a swig of ale and finds a pickpocket to kick around.
Seriously, for all the nice things Graham's said and the help he's given Kylah, he also scares the crap out of her because he is such a dichotomy and she never knows which is the real Booker Graham. In short, he reminds her of her Guardian/uncle Aldaan, a guy she fears and detests. Some of that isn't Graham's fault, but some of it is. Also, in the space of three days he's been right around the corner or directly present when she's just experienced two particularly shame-filled events. Fair or not, it's sometimes human nature to mistrust/resent someone who's seen us at our most vulnerable.
IIRC we have no CHA attribute in our stats. I'd guess Rangin's is the highest in the group, with Kylah's not too far behind (when she turns on the charm, she's almost always successful). Graham is probably in the middle with T'Var, and Collins.... well, I'm guessing girlfriend took CHA as her dump stat.![]()
ROTFL
>she never knows which is the real Booker Graham
Well said, sometimes he loses track, too...
Actually, if you look at the character sheets, we do have a CHA stat which is probably more related to appearance than anything.
In the land of the blind, the one-arm man is king.
CHA typically reflects appearance, first and foremost, but also personality, leadership skills and self-confidence.
Wow I never noticed the CHA stat on our sheets. Funnily enough my approximations were right, although we're missing Rangin's and WES's stats.
I guess definitions of CHA seem to differ. On the RPGtalk wiki the Charisma definition says:
Well, "likeable" lets Kylah out! Although as I said earlier when she wants to, she can charm when she's not, y'know, in the middle of angst. (Which isn't saying much since she has a lot of angst!) Even in EH's definition, the "confidence" thing doesn't fit her either. Ah well.Charisma is charm and force of personality. Characters with charisma are likeable, persuasive, and inspiring.
Alternate terms: Charm, Presence, Personality
In Dungeons & Dragons, Charisma is used for sorcery and bardic magic.
Edited to add: I am really curious about this wench who hurt Rangin. Or was she the love of his life who died? Something complex is going on. CIAS, I like that you wrote that "Is Kylah like her? No, she isn't..." part ambiguously. Is that meant to be a favorable or unfavorable comparison? Is the first question asked with hope or dread? Interesting stuff.

Charisma can also be force of personality - for example, I'd say prevailing nerd opinion is that in D&D terms Hitler had very high Charisma.
It was muddled in D&D for a long time - for a brief while in D&D (way back in the day) there was a stat called "Comeliness" which was intended to be all about appearance, and make Charisma clearly about "other things."
Not that I am comparing Kylah to Hitler in an online forum.
We'll jump that shark when we come to it...![]()
^^ Oh, someone on a career track that requires diplomacy and ability to lead... like, a captain or something.
Hey boss. You wrote:
How much can they heal at this point in time? Do we ever see any of the TOS characters in casts or slings? I'm just wondering if a knee sprain gets fixed instantly or if it requires time to heal. I'd have Kylah ask, but I have the feeling she'd know what a 23rd century medico can do.Kylah knows that the doctor will be able to easily heal any scrapes or cuts so that she won't need bandages.
(Also, I'm wondering... didn't Collins contact T'Var and ask her to go to the conference room, and T'Var agreed? Why'd she go from the infirmary to the guest house area instead?)
Healing of minor cuts and bruises is very easy for a Starfleet medico of this era. I can't think of any ST:TOS character ever seen in a cast or sling. A knee sprain could be mostly healed by gadget or drugs, but the body would still need time to "catch up" on the molecular level and wouldn't be completely healed for another day or so.
As to T'Var's current whereabouts, perhaps you should ask her.
Um... I wouldn't be trumpeting that INT score yet, either of you. Because considering Hsu is a possible suspect, do we really want him
a) left alone in the office with complete access to Wilson's computer, his belongings, any other evidence y'all haven't carefully looked at yet (the financial books, for example), and especially the safe (which he could be lying about regarding whether he knows how to open it or not)
and
b) hanging with us in the conference room command post while we discuss likely suspects, which include both him and his wife? Why on earth is Collins so insistent that he's one of the gang now? Won't it be pretty tactless to have him in part of the meeting and then ask him to step out later?

She only invited him so that he wouldn't be alone in the suite. So there.![]()
I was kind of worried that Collins' proactive step to get the team food and Kylah's happy mood as a result of Rangin's attention might decrease the internecine fighting. Whew, glad to see there's no let up...![]()
Hey, we're trying to solve a murder here! Romance and snacks are all very well, but I take my participation in mysteries very seriously.![]()
which, if he was the murderer and knew about the safe, he's had several hours to access already. Also, Rangin has been keeping an eye on him while he's been in there.
But, as chief of security, if he wanted to do something without us knowing, he could probably do so. Don't forget Wilson's apartment has a side entrance as well with no monitoring at all.
In the land of the blind, the one-arm man is king.
well, then why doesn't Rangin ask Delaney to encode the back door so only the Yorktown crew has the code.
Thanks everyone for your words of support. Much appreciated!
I am reflecting back on the fact that mostly we all didn't talk much with the guests when they were in the indoctrination room.
Which might have surfaced some useful info...but what is actually more funny about it is that we must have been feeling eager to get on with...fighting with each other.![]()

There is no cheeseburger without cheese.
Ain't no sunshine when she's gone.
It's not warm when she's away
She must have arrived just after Krangin left the CP. Apparently it took at least fifteen minutes for Kylah to limp her way to Graham and apologize?
Krangin? I though we were going for Rylah?![]()
In the land of the blind, the one-arm man is king.
I thought Collins went looking for the others instead of returning to the CP?

I am wherever the Lord High Executioner gamemaster says I am.
I thought she ordered the donuts etc. and then went to the CP. Let's play it that way, in any event.

So, do all the suspect parties here have stock in a rival company...

In fairness, sometimes alternate questions just don't occur to me unless I hear the response. I mean there are basic questions one can ask, but if I'm asking an open-ended question that's more off-the-beaten-track, I may not know what follow-up will be necessary.
I just noticed two things:
1) both times the question about a guest's investments in rival companies was asked, it was EH-running-a-PC asking it, rather than one of us. Methinks our GM is trying to steer us in a certain direction. Trying to send us on the scent of a red herring, or trying to help put us on the right track? We'll have to see.
2) How the hell did I not notice, until looking back a couple of game pages, that it was Ferguson who transported T'Var and Halsey back up to the ship for the autopsy? I totally missed that. Looks like Kylah dodged a bullet by not going back up to the ship after her injury. Although.. it could've been kinda awesomely unpleasant. Oh well. Hopefully the opportunity will present itself again.![]()
