I have the advantage of living within a 3-hour drive of GenCon (used to be only a 2-hour drive, until they moved it from Milwaukee to Indy). I've been able to go nearly every year since '83...it's changed a *lot* over the years. Still a lot of fun.![]()

I went in 1985. My only actual gaming Con. It was fun but it helped we could drive there from Great Mistakes.
I'll be out of touch for a few days. Deor's interested in helping people and finishing up this adventure, and will ID things as necessary. Also, he'll use at least half and probably three-quarters of the cash that he receives to pay back Gilraen's generous loan.
Do you ever go to Origins in Columbus, OH?
BTW, had a great con. It's odd, I was always a tabletop RPG kind of guy until my girlfriend got me into LARPing, and now when it comes to cons, I much prefer LARPing. Mainly because I think tabletop works better as a campaign, whereas LARP works much better as one-shots.
I should probably go on a hiatus. See the Star Trek setup thread for details.
I've been going to Origins for four or five years now. It's become the main convention which my online RPGA group attends; we take advantage of the opportunity to see one another face-to-face.
Glad to hear it -- I had a great time at GenCon, as well, even though I rarely wound up leaving the Sagamore Ballroom (where the RPGA was), save for running in the Orc Stomp 5K at 0600 on Friday morning.![]()
My apologies for being silent the past few days...it's been a little nutty, as I was laid off yesterday. (News story on the situation, in case you care: http://adage.com/article/agency-news...hicago/229292/ ). I have a number of irons already in the fire, so I'm not too concerned about things yet, and I now have some free time.![]()
What a shame! I'm glad you've got some other leads; I was unemployed myself for a few months this spring.
Thank you. I had been there for 12 years, and so, got a somewhat respectable severance package -- sufficient, at least, to give me a few months to land on my feet without having to worry about finances.
Good luck on the job search. I hope it is a speedy one.
Yes, definitely. So sorry to hear the bad news, but glad your outlook isn't all that dire!
Is this the same day, or the next day? I didn't notice that we camped for the night, but 11 a.m. seems pretty early to have gotten to the next fort.
It's the next day. The camp put you fairly close to this hill fort.
Oh, good. I burned a lot of spells yesterday. I'll probably rework my spell list.
My vacation will be next week. So as of Friday I'll be mostly gone til Labor Day. (Sep 5th)
Enjoy the holiday.

Guys I apologize. I have barely been on the computer outside of work for weeks now. My vacation was cut short by the Hurricane which led to over a week of cleanup. This threw out my back so the last thing I was doing when I got home from work was sitting in front of the computer.
My cleanup is done outside of getting a few old couches out of the basement on Saturday and rebuilding a table. My back is mostly back and I will try hard to catch back up on the game.
Side note, my table top Middle Earth game is winding down. They just killed the dragon of Gundabad (Anocar) and we're about 2-3 sessions from ending their campaign. They are now a few years ahead of this game.
Thanks for the update, Jim, and I hope you're feeling caught up and entirely healthy soon!
Get better first, the game can wait until then.

Yes, heal up and then worry about the game. I hope things start going a little easier for you now!

Yeah, heal up, hope Zuul learns to code, and we'll see you when you're better!

Thanks for the update, and OUCH!!!

"Gilraen, where's that barrel of salve...?"
Gah, I have been meaning to check on this game for like a week and it just hasn't happened (well longer than a week, but actively trying for a week). Sorry everyone, I have been going back to school and I just lost track of the game. I am here and I am in. I will catch up and post something today before I leave for class.
Sorry again for disappearing, but I think I have finally gotten my schedule straightened out enough that I have some free time again.

I'll update tomorrow, I just wanted to give NAF & others a chance to post.
Just wanted to share that I've landed a new job. Thanks to a lead from an old boss, I'm joining a market research company here in the Chicago suburbs, as their research director. Thanks for the good wishes...it was, indeed, a speedy process.

That is great news. Congrats Kenobi65
Great to hear, kenobi! Congratulations on the new job.

Terrific! Well done, kenobi65. Did you have to use any Jedi mind tricks?

No, you're sure that's not what they did....
Congrats and good luck kenobi65

FYI, I'm going to be off the grid for a few days (heading up to Wisconsin for an extended gaming weekend with my old D&D group). I'll be away from 10/20 through 10/25. In my absence, Ceol will, of course, boldly smite all evil he can find.![]()
Even if you don't like the song, the opening graphic is worth a look for any LOTR fan:
Aaahh, good old Scandinavian Thrash Metal, gawd bless 'em.

I'm going to be traveling for the next week or so. I'll post if I can, but it may be erratic.
Have a good trip, Appleciders! Anyplace/thing fun?
The game play is really getting too little posting. I am finding it hard to sustain the GM'ing of it at this point. I think we need to make some changes. We really need posters to post on average 3-4 time per week for the game to move. I've been waiting since the 7th for enough posts to move on.
Might be worthwhile to send out a PM, if people aren't checking the thread?

Makes sense to me. Maybe we should wrap this particular adventure up, and move on with a smaller party thereafter.
That is probably the best way to go. I'll try to get a PM out today and see who is still committed to the game with the fact that most weeks we're expecting 3-4 posts and interaction with the other characters of course.
I'm going to be traveling to visit family for Thanksgiving. It shouldn't effect my posting at all, but on the off chance it does, I'll be on the road tomorrow and then again on Saturday. So if I drop off the planet on those days, that'll be why.

I'm going to update the game tonight and I'll try to wrap this part up this week and get us back on the Elendil and heading north.
Very good. I'll be out of town early Tues.-late Sat. for Thanksgiving, but expect to have Internet access throughout.
I'l be around as usual.
