Glow in the Dark Kitten

It has become more and more common nowadays for biochemists looking for their doctorates to turn their hand to making animals glow.

We've had worms, mice, rabbits and now we have kittens.



The reason for this genetic amendment is to assist in AIDS research, due to the close relationship between HIV and FIV, the feline equivalent.

On the one hand I can understand why this has been done. On the other hand, I know that it is going to lead to the forced infection of cats with FIV and other variants and then watching how they react.

Animal testing can be extremely depressing. Even animals that are treated well are often euthanized so that the effects on their internal organs can be examined. However, the potential benefits (particularly when it comes to research on HIV) have to be taken into account.

Since there are already glow-in-the-dark fish on the market, I am wondering how long until glowing cats show up there? Oh, the fun that could be had when they're going crazy in the middle of the night.
