... cable boxes had long cords for the tuner.

... kids carried a dime for the pay phones in case you got lost.

    ... catalog stores where common.

... Woolworth existed and you might eat lunch at their counters.

and you could fail inspection if the nozzle hole was too big for a car that took unleaded even when leaded was no longer available at stations.

People hardly ever used profanity in public (just today a woman walked by me, talking on her cellphone, saying very forcefully, "Tell her I don't have to take that shit!").

Really? That might have been a city thing. I don't recall that in the burbs and Sears and Korvetts were about it for when I lived in the Bronx, not fine at all.

Well, OK, Marshall Fields used to do it. Back then, they were the only finer department store in Chicago, so that is the very limited sample I'm basing this on!

We had a Macy's and a Bamberger's here in the Burbs. Lord and Taylor's probably counts too. I don't think any of them did this.

Back up in the city, I only recall going to the big Macy's once when we still lived up there.

I really miss that. Speaking of which, I think as a kid, I saw Song of the South on TV. Now it is locked away apparently forever.
