Default I feel guilty for loving this lowbrow thing

Okay so I talk about food in chat a lot and honestly I don't really cook that much and I'm not that great at it but I enjoy doing it and sometimes I come up with something really good and, well, food is one of life's great pleasures. Even in a town that doesn't have all that much great food in it, like Lansing, there's a lot of delicious food to be had.

So while I hate the word "foodie" and I'm not nearly as bad as a lot of people out there, I am verging on foodie status. I know where I can buy Mexican oregano here in town, I can make a pie crust, and when Michael Pollan said this:

I felt sorta virtuous because I already eat that way most of the time. Even if I eat way too much takeout, well, the taco place and the Jamaican place are cooking with actual food as well.

But you know what? I like Mrs. Butterworth's way better than actual maple syrup. Something about that butter flavoring -- mmm, so good. A pancake or a waffle is best with a nice pat of butter and then drenched in cheap, HFCS-filled syrup with imitation maple flavor in it.

So what do you guys enjoy that's sort of embarrassing? It can be food, or it can be something else in an area you're into enough to know better but still like some random crappy unsophisticated thing anyway.

The scary thing about Mrs. Butterworth's is that it's SO good, but when I was a kid it was MUCH MUCH better (I think there was real butter in it, then, or something).

For me, I would say that I really kind of like McDonald's. I know that even Burger King is probably better quality, and the flame broiling gives it a real burger-like flavor, and all that, but damn, I love Big Macs.

Reality shows, specially the ones with a 'career' or 'business' angle.

Hell's Kitchen, Kitchen Nightmares, the various Dragons' Dens and Shark Tanks etc.

Recently I discovered 'Work of Art', a remarkably bad but addictive show.

I really prefer real Maple Syrup. I do not like the various caramel colored corn syrup based products.
My weakness, I still love White Castles. A real guilty pleasure. Also McDonalds. I know they are the next worse thing to WalMart but damn it, I enjoy the food.

I like those kinds of reality shows, too. Top Chef, Project Runway, The Apprentice, and Kitchen Nightmares are all faves of mine. All the older home decorating ones, too...we were big fans of Trading Spaces back in the day.

Taco Bell. I like it. I know it's BAD Tex-Mex, but I like it.

Don’t eat anything with more than five ingredients, or ingredients you can't pronounce.
    I disagree with this. Strongly.

I like stir fries. The last one I made, a fairly simple one, had about ten ingredients, once you include sauces and oil. Don't embrace complexity for its own sake, of course. But don't fear it, either.

If you come to my wedding, that's who's catering it.

I only feel guilty loving really hipster/high brow crap.

The more lowbrow the more bold my love of it is. Except sometimes I do feel bad for liking movies for being in really bad taste and...kind of slightly offensive (as long as it's been pirated and I didn't financially support it in any way).

Oh, no, that's not what he's getting at. It's about not buying any food with more than five ingredients, not about refusing to eat anything with more than five ingredients in it. Practically everything I cook has way more than five things in it. Even salad dressing usually has at least that many.

I also rarely eat anything with ingredients I can't pronounce, but it's only thanks to a couple years of Chinese that I know how to pronounce 韭菜, and I put those in tonight's dinner.

Just ran across Million Dollar Password on the Game Show Network, and I'm mesmerized.

You know what? I legitimately like that song "I Kissed A Girl".

    /me hums
I kissed a girl and I liked it,
The taste of her cherry chapstick.
I kissed a girl just to try it,
I hope my boyfriend don't mind it.

I think it would be better sung by a guy Exy.

I think it was a better song when Jill Sobule sang it. (fair disclosure: I never turn the dial when 'California Gurls' comes on)

So the talk about I Kissed a Girl made me think I hadn't listened to that song in a while so I went off to youtube. After listening to it, I remembered that Cobra Starship had done a parody of it called I Kissed a Boy. After watching a fan video, I noticed in the related videos. I share it with you because even though it is possibly the worst music video I've seen in ages, I will probably watch it another 100 times.

It's horrible, but yeah, me too.

I think my low brow thing would be frozen pizza. People always talk about how it tastes like cardboard and isn't any good and maybe Iowa just has really shitty pizza because, frankly, a LOT of frozen pizza tastes better than the shit I could get in a pizza parlor.
