Default How far away do you currently live from where you were born?

As I sit here and write this, I currently live 156 miles from my place of birth. I was born in Bettendorf Iowa and live in Elgin Illinois. Makes me seem a lot more townie than I really am, I've lived all over the country before, but somehow ended up an hour and a half drive from where I hit the ground running.

    How about you?

126 mi. I was born in Cambridge, MA, and currently in North Adams. I've never lived outside Mass, and don't really have any ambition to do so in the future (in fact, I'm planning on moving closer to my place of birth soon), though obviously you never know what might come up.

Unless Hatshepsut shows up to embarrass me, I think I'm going to win this.

Houston, TX ----> Saigon, VN = 9285 miles.

As the bird flies it is only 41 miles. However it is a different world in most ways. I went from the Bronx, NY in the 70s to beautiful Monmouth County where the deer graze in my yard and owls and red tail Hawks fly overhead.

Now worse yet I live only 4 miles from where I grew up and went to school K-12. It is not a lot different, I now use the same barbershop I did as a kid and the same Pizza Place.

That is unless I decide to reveal that I'm a martian of course. Oh shit.

A half-mile from the hospital I was born in, 3 miles from my childhood home. Do I win?

If there's a prize, can it be tickets to GO somewhere please?

Racine, Wisconsin to San Francisco ... about 2000 miles. Pretty far compared to everyone but OCS.

197 miles by car. The furthest away I lived for any length of time was when I was in college, which was about twice as far (400 miles, for the math impaired).

About 15 miles, I would say, by car, from the actual hospital I was born in. It's in the city of Chicago, and I live in a near suburb.

I currently live in Orlando, FL and was born in Chicago IL so that seems to be about 1,160 miles.

Lousy at calculating distances, but less than a two hour drive from where I was born. Funny...born in rural Ontario, not far from Toronto. Lived in a bunch of places, including Yellowknife, Regina, Iqaluit, Ottawa....and here I am in Toronto, most likely I'll die here.

Pretty much like Cluricaun, I guess.

I am not going to die here. I am going to die on my acres of pristine rolling hills in Kentucky.

That's an average of 78mph. That's a conservative estimate, you could easily do 85 the whole way there. It's not like there's a great deal in between the Chicago suburbs and the Quad Cities. How long would it take you to get to Austin?

No, that's an average of 104mph. I'm not debating your will or ability to do it, just being impressed.

I just Googled your town, ivan. Is there really a town called "Failsworth" east of you? That's awesome.

Oh, and the furthest I've ever been from my birthplace is Guayaquil, Ecuador, which at 11,500 miles from Saigon is about as far from each other as two major world cities can be on this planet.

Some people probably listen to Iron and Wine in the car. I listen to Meshuggah. I get where I'm going, quickly.

I might live as much as 3 miles north of the hospital where I was born (or, more precisely, where the hospital I was born in used to be before they demolished it to make way for more condos near the downtown core because expensive yuppie housing is more important than hospitals. But I digress). For the most part, I grew up 8-10 miles south of that hospital location, but I also spent around ten years in southern Ontario, maybe 1600 miles from here, give or take.

The farthest away I've ever ventured was Halifax, NS, for a weekend visit back in the early 90s, which is around 2200 miles away. I was nearly killed there by a taxi driver -- good times!

That area used to be my old hunting ground when I was a party animal in my younger days. It used to have the highest ratio of pubs per sq mile in the whole of M/cr, I think.

1,776 from the hospital in Henderson, NV to Washburn County, WI.

    A respectable distance, I think.

Roughly 212 miles, according to Google. Of course, I've lived in three other states over the course of my life. The farthest I've lived is Riverside, CA, which is more than a 24 hour drive (I didn't calculate the miles).

Around 300 miles - I was born in Greensburg, KS, and had to MapQuest with the address of the new hospital that was built after the tornado destroyed the old one a few years ago. I'm not sure if it's in the same place or not.

Born in Houston, keep coming back here. Currently living about 11 miles from where the hospital I was born was located.

Hat may win on the basis of *currently* living there. However, I lived in Jakarta in the 1980s, and the distance from Houston is, according to the Geobytes City Distance tool, 10269 miles.
