Default Paging Houston Mellophanters - the weather there?

What's the weather like in Houston right now?

I have to meet my mother there - she's having eye surgery and needs a family member along. I've been assuming it would be hot, but a cursory internet search suggests it may be in the 60s or 70s, so if I don't pack properly, I may freeze.

    One Cent Stamp? Artifex? Pawpaw?

OneCentStamp wants to know details of the eye surgery - having it at Baylor? He might know the doctor.

The weather right now is fickle. We've had wonderfully lovely sunny days in the mid-70s; today it's supposed to be rainy and 62; tomorrow it's supposed to be windy and cold. Spring and autumn tend to be really unpredictable here. It should be back up to the nice low 70s again soon, but I would definitely bring a sweater or jacket.

Also, the pollen is unbelievably bad. We had an unusually cold winter (well, for us), and then it got warm, so instead of a gradual onset, everything burst forth at once. You're probably not terribly sensitive to pollens here (it helps to live in a place for a couple years to get really sensitized to the local varieties), but you may want to pick up your anthihistamine of choice.

I concur with everything the little lady said about the weather and pollen. This weekend is supposed to be kind of cloudy and wet, but in general it's getting to be a lovely time of year except for the allergies.

If I may ask, where and when is your mom having her surgery? I ask because I work at an eye clinic in the Houston medical center area, and not only do I probably know the doctor or practice, it's probably within a mile or two of my work.

I'm so glad I asked. Given the way people bitch about the heat in Houston, I assumed it would be hot already. I would have frozen for lack of sweaters. Thanks for the insights. Thank goodness, I'm generally allergy-free, but it's nice to know that the pollen is intense, just in case.

My mother is going to the Eye Excellence Center for replace-the-entire-lens cataract surgery with Dr. Green. I'm going to have my eyes checked too, by one of the ODs - Dr. Matthew. I don't remember hearing anything about a connection with Baylor so I assume it's not the same clinic One Cent Stamp works at, but that would be awesome if it is! I forget the exact dates; her pre-surgery consult is tomorrow (Monday 22 March). They are doing each eye 5 days apart and the surgery dates are something like the 24th and 29th of March, I forget.

Well the least y'all can do is get together for a Phant Fest.
    Welcome to Mellophant.

We started with nothing and we still have most of it left.

Oh sure! I'm hesitant to suggest anything though, as not only will I not have a car (hell, I don't even have a drivers' license any more, how sad is that?), I'm not sure how....er....demanding my mother is going to be. (To be fair, Houston is a place with a lot of unhappy memories for her, as my dad died at the medical center in Houston after 2 months of agony in the hospital.) If there's a good place for a beer or a latte near my hotel, though, and OCS and Artifex have a flexible enough schedule to accommodate uncertainty, I'll buy!

Dr. Green has an excellent reputation, and her locations are one and two miles, respectively, from mine - I work at Mann Eye Institute. I'm sure you will have a hectic schedule with two operations in five days, but it would be lovely to meet you, even if it's only briefly.

Well then, we should be able to work something out. I'll actually be around from the 23rd of March to the 2nd of April.

I'll PM you my e-mail address and perhaps we can play it by ear once I'm in town.

Please do, unless you already sent it to artifex or something!

ETA: Never mind! I got your e-mail; it went to my junk folder.
