Whatcha drinkin' tonight?

We picked up a couple of new beers tonight! Join us!

First up: Harpoon Leviathan. Christened an "Imperial Red" by the brewery, this monster weighs in at 9.2% ABV. For those counting at home, that's roughly double the strength of the average American beer, and well into red wine territory.

This is an excellent beer! The taste is an interesting mix: up front is the super aggressive hop profile of a good India Pale Ale, but it has the buttery, caramelized sweetness of a Scotch Ale or Wee Heavy behind it. I like this beer. I'm also glad it only came in a four pack, because it's strong as hell.

Two observations:

1) I took the pics, not artifex, so excuse the quality.
2) As you can see, my trip this evening to Genghis Grill was not without its rewards.

Next up: Glenmorangie 10.

I'm definitely more a Scotch wannabe than a true connoisseur - it's an expensive hobby - but of the dozen or two single malts I've tried, this is my favorite and standby. I'm getting close to finishing the bottle AndrewRyan got me for the holidays; I keep this mostly for sipping in controlled doses, and keep a big 1.75 of Dewar's for rocks and soda usage.

Last night I drank a 12 pack of Coors Light and maybe 4 shots of Canadian Club. Sometimes slumming is fun. Hell of a hangover though.
