    Default Mushrooms! Love'm or lump'em?

I find mushrooms to be a fairly polarizing food item.

How do you feel about them?

I'm of the positive polarization it seems. Raw, on pizza, cooked in a philly cheese steak. MMmmmm. Delicious.

I love them. Especially on pizza or in a pasta dish.

I tend to like mushrooms better the longer they are cooked. Raw, on a salad or a crudité platter, I really don't like them much. Cooked, but still substantial, like on pizza or in stir-fry, they're good. Cooked way down to mush, where they're just giving an earthy background note of flavor to a dish like boeuf bourguignon, they are heavenly.

One of the most wonderful things I ever ate was cream of morel soup. A little salty and very rich and earthy.

Only tolerable if they're ignorable: julienned strips of shiitake are ok, whereas thick sliced/whole creminis being all chewy and making everything smell and taste all mushroomy...eccchhh.

I find that the uber-polarizing food is potato salad: everyone seems to have at least one ingredient that is crucial for inclusion or exclusion, and there's no consensus.

Nonsense. I require potatoes in mine, and I will fight any man or woman who says differently.

I voted "Are yummy" but with the qualification that they can sometimes be overdone. I'm not real fond of shitake but almost every other kind is good. I've never had good canned mushrooms though.

Delicious, especially sauteed with onions and butter. The browner the better.

Yes. Nicely sauteed mushrooms with onions and garlic and butter are basically the food equivalent of multiple orgasms.

Yeah, raw mushrooms suck but they're great cooked. I love some nice meaty bits of shiitake or intense rehydrated porcinis in a soup or a pasta dish, mmmm. So perfect.

Good mushrooms are awesome, bad ones are unbelievably foul. I love them raw. Canned ones are beyond sad.

I eat mushrooms about every other day. I love them sauteed with onions too. I'll eat them raw in a salad, but I prefer them cooked well.
    Mushroom soup is the yummy!

If they're the kind that will make stars blow out the back of your head while the trees dance for your enjoyment, I'm all about them.

Other than that, I won't touch any food that has mushrooms on it, in it, or even around it. They are nasty, period.

As predicted! Mushroom appreciation charts as bimodal distribution.

Oliveloaf, dude, your 5-point scale is a little skewed, there. Next time, ask an expert to help you design it.

I love mushrooms...put them in whatever I'm making a couple times a week, at least.

That scale was expertly crafted by a multi-year veteran of the market research industry. I would trust him with my wife.

I agree with Cluricaun. Unless the mushrooms in question are making the walls breath and the stars in the sky move around, I refuse to eat them.

Deep fry the suckers and dip them in ranch.

I like my mushrooms raw raw raw. Sometimes with ranch.
I don't think so, therefore I'm probably not.

I read this thread title as "love'em or hump'em?" And I was concerned.

Anyway, mushrooms are okay. Just gotta be cooked.

They make you gag a little. And vomit if you eat them too fast. But it's a much mellower high than acid.
