Default Best Songs Of The '00s!

I've gotta make a playlist for a new year's eve party that will include a selection of songs from this most wonderful of decades. Any suggestions for best tunes of the decade? Preferably ones that were hits?

Wow, I can't believe no one's responded to this. I can't really help you with what's a radio hit or not, AG. I quit paying attention to the top 40 somewhere around 1998. Best songs from this decade that wouldn't be entirely out of place on a party mix, IMO:

    Sufjan Stevens - Chicago
The Shins - Kissing the Lipless, Australia, Turn a Square
Annie - Me Plus One, Heartbeat, Hey Annie, I Don't Like Your Band
Sam Roberts - Bridge to Nowhere
Iron & Wine - Boy With a Coin
Ladyhawke - Paris is Burning, My Delirium, Back of the Van
    MGMT - Electric Feel
    Madonna - Hung Up
Daft Punk - Digital Love, Aerodynamic
Mylo - In My Arms, Doctor Pressure
Clap Your Hands Say Yeah - Satan Said Dance, Some Loud Thunder (the non-album, non-distorted version), Is This Love?

And of course there's a lot more from the last decade I love, but I wouldn't put on a party mix:

    Feist - Mushaboom
St. Vincent - Marrow, Laughing With a Mouth of Blood
Andrew Bird - Oh No, Scythian Empires, Fiery Crash, Not a Robot But a Ghost
Iron & Wine - Passing Afternoon, Naked As We Came, House By the Sea

A hell of a lot more that I'm not thinking of right now...

If you don't have "My Humps" by the Black Eyed Peas, your list is not worth making.

I'd also be inclined to add:
    "Black Sweat" - Prince
    "Chocolate Box" - Prince
"Somebody Told Me" - The Killers
    "Bar-Ba-Sol" - David Cook
    "Umbrella" - Rihanna
"From My Heart To Yours" - Laura Izibor
"Blow Away" - A Fine Frenzy
"Sugarfoot" - Black Joe Lewis and the Honeybears
    "Promiscuous" - Nelly Furtado
    "Hurt" - Christina Aguilera
"I Write Sins Not Tragedies" - Panic! At The Disco
    "Candyman" - Christina Aguilera
"Sweat of Your Brow" - Jully Black
"Far Away Like A Radio" - Colin James
    "Fallin'" - Alicia Keys
    "Woman" - Wolfmother
    "Yeah!" - Usher
"Since U Been Gone" - Kelly Clarkson
    "Crabbuckit" - k-os
    "Hollaback Girl" - Gwen Stefani
"Take Me Out" - Franz Ferdinand
    "Stupid" - Sarah McLachlan
    "This Love" - Maroon 5
"Bring Me To Life" - Evanescence
    "Crazy In Love" - Beyoncé
    "Hey Ya!" - OutKast
    "Tribute" - Tenacious D
    "Whenever, Wherever" - Shakira
"Take A Message" - Remy Shand
    "Hella Good" - No Doubt
    "Misunderstood" - Krizz Kaliko
    "Buttons" - The Pussycat Dolls

    That should get you started!
    Hell is other people.

Excellent choices, jimbo. I'd had a few in mind, but he pretty much listed them all! I'll have to think of some new ones.

If you want to get them all singing and hugging, you've got to play this at some point. .

    Thanks!

I basically just did a skim of my '00 songs in iTunes, but I think I hit most of the key contributors to my list. Several more song that I missed or forgot about completely are on ivan's lists, like "Hot in Herre" by Nelly (good call!). I was also tempted to mention Nickelback, since they did just get named the Band of the Decade by someone or other, but I couldn't quite bring myself to do it.

If it would cheer you up, I could post every single song from Darren Hayes's solo career, as they'd all fit in the last decade.
So now they are just dirt-covered English people in fur pelts with credit cards.

Nickelback really is about the worst band ever. It's just bland, empty, cookie-cutter rock music. Hate hate hate.

Now that I've gotten that out of my system... Upon further consideration, and a closer look at my music collection I have some more suggestions for songs that were actually radio hits (though, this only covers about 2000-03)

N.E.R.D. - She Wants to Move
    Pharrell - Frontin'
Junior Senior - Move Your Feet
Kylie Minogue - Love at First Sight
Nelly Furtado - Turn Off the Light
    Jewel - Intuition (during Jewel's "I'm gonna be a pop-star!" phase.)
    Eve 6 - Promise
Janet Jackson - All For You
Missy Elliot - Pass That Dutch, Get Ur Freak On, Work It
    U2 - Beautiful Day
PJ Harvey - Good Fortune (which charted in the UK, but not the US )
    David Gray - Babylon
Cake - Short Skirt, Long Jacket

The reissued single, which was the only one that charted, came out in 2000. So it counts.

I suppose, although the album came out here in 1998 and was that song was a hit single in 1999 where it charted at #20. You people were just slowcoaches on the Gray train.
