I can't wait! None of my friends are going, so I'll see this alone as soon as it opens.
Are any of you guys going to see this sans kiddies?

Omigod, I LOVED that book. I don't see how they could make a movie out of it, but that trailer looks quite promising. I don't know when I'll be able to see it (it may or may not come to Jakarta, but eventually we'll get real or pirated DVDs) but unless you tell me it's awful, I will be sure to see it.
I used to read that book to my son as often as he would let me. Not only were the plot and pictures wonderful, but the language, although simple, is so beautiful to say out loud. "And the walls became the world all around." That's one of my all-time favorite lines.
It still pisses me off that I never had that book as a child. However, I think I'm too old - didn't most of Sendak's stuff come out in the early to mid 1970s? I was a teenager by then.![]()
I loved loved loved that book as a kid, and will definitely see the movie. Even if it does look like they added in A LOT. I just think the monsters look so good.
Glazer met me right after work on Friday night and he first introduced me to his rambunctious puppy, "Chuck", and then to Johnny's Pizza. Delicious real pizza. Mmmmm.
We decided on the last showing of the movie on Friday night (to avoid an auditorium full of kids) and all went according to plan (except for the part when the theater wouldn't accept the movie passes I had since this was a "special engagement")
Glazer flashed his credit card and kindly paid for the tickets (although I invited him) and we found great seats, dead center of the theater.
The movie was amazing. I almost wish my girls and boys were small again so that I could share this with them.
The acting (including the voice actors) was very good. The monsters were monsters. The kids acted like real kids.
I don't understand those who want all kids stories to be the "feel good" type tales since children deal with tragedy and hurt in real life on a daily basis.
The movie shows the audience that it's impossible to make everyone happy, and that despite shortcomings and failures, those who love you will be there for you in the end.
Highly recommended.

We took the kids on Saturday. We all liked it and I personally found the movie fun. It was a little disconcerting though for Carol to be Tony Soprano for me.![]()
I really enjoyed the costuming and felt they really caught the feeling of the book unlike let’s say The Cat in a Hat or Grinch movies.
We went to a matinee and it was of course noisy, but I had the child from hell behind me. She never shut up, kept hitting my chair and hit me on the back of the head twice. I glared at the mom twice; she finally pulled the brat about ¾ of the way through the film. The mom is an ass. No question. Other kids were occasionally noisy but this kid was almost always noisy and whiny.
One problem, the movie was properly rated PG. It probably was too much for most of the pre-schoolers and there were a huge number of pre-schoolers.
Oh! I cannot wait to see this movie! I also loved the book as a child and was so happy to see the reviews were good. I'm glad to hear you guys liked it. I'm also very excited to see the move Mr. Fox.
Hatshepsut, I believe the book came out in 1963 or around then.
This tastes like the circus smells.
Finky, are you talking about the Roald Dahl story, The Fantastic Mr. Fox? I heard that was going to be a movie, but don't know much about it. I LOVED that book as a kid, read it many times.![]()

It is the Roald Dahl book and it's directed by Wes Anderson, who I just love. Apparently he was a pain in the ass to the crew over the movie, but I feel like his trademark style will definitely work with Mr. Fox. I'm actually excited that there are actually several movies out or coming soon that I want to see...happens very seldom lately.
