Default Dexter Series 4 + spoilers

Ok, it's just started in the USA. Is it still as good as ever?

And does anyone know when it will be appearing in the UK?

Sorry, no info about the UK premier.

I saw the first episode and it's kind of predictable in that..

    Spoiler (mouseover to read):
Dexter's son has been born and he has to deal with "new daddy" stuff affecting his "second job".

John Lithgow has joined the cast for season four and his character looks promising (i.e. really creepy). I think it's still a very good show, but it doesn't look like some of the soapy drama of last season is gone. For example the first episode includes a hook-up between two characters that I guess is supposed to be shocking. I think that's just a minor downside, though.

I'm hoping I can get my fix of Dexter 4 on Ninjavideo again, CIAS.

    pssst... it's up there now!

And a promising start it is, too.

Taumpy, I think it was more meant to be surprising, than "shocking" - and it was that!
    Spoiler (mouseover to read):
I didn't even know he'd split up with her from Vice!

I didn't think it was really that surprising, more like really? are you kidding me? why?

    Spoiler (mouseover to read):
As I recall Angel and whatsherface were together at Dexter's wedding. He just had a throwaway "we broke up" line at some point last episode. Bad writing, honestly.

I want Dexter's wife and kids to die, die, d-i-e DIE. Rita is beautiful but so, so, so annoying. Her whiny voice, her whiny attitude.

I want Showtime to grow some balls and have him kill them!

    I've seen some speculation that...

    Spoiler (mouseover to read):
Rita's first marriage (not Paul) that she never told Dexter about could lead to a reveal that she killed him.

Which is about the only way I can see Dexter killing Rita. The kids? You're out of luck, Sleeps.

Well if it follows along the line of the books.

    Spoiler (mouseover to read):
Rita will find out about Dexter and kill the latest super Serial Killer to save him, making them one happy murdering SK family.

Did Dexter and Rita get married in the books? I was under the impression that Book-Dexter's relationship to her was not really as close as the show.

I think that would be a really interesting storyline, CIAS, but I can't see it happening. It seems too out of character for TV-Rtia.

It happens as a prelude to Dexter by Design, the fourth book.

So I just saw ep 2, and quite enjoyed it. Mostly. It was exhausting, though - watching him running around the city, trying to piece it all back together...
Something tells me we haven't seen the last of foreshadowing.

I actually enjoy the exhausting nature of a good Dexter episode. I'm curious to see where they're going this season with Dexter trying to do everything. He's made some pretty major mistakes, and I kind of hope they catch up to him somehow. It's time for someone that he doesn't have to murder to find out about him. I'm hoping it will be Deb.

That has to be the final outcome, but I think they can string together a couple more series at least before that is neccessary.

    Spoiler (mouseover to read):
She already knows in the book's version.

Yeah, but I'm hoping it's not the final outcome. I would love to see at least one season of Deb knowing about it, and how she'd deal with it.

Quinn trying to get on Dexter's good side is pathetic and totally transparent.

Just saw episode four, and it was pretty good. Dexter's kill this week was a lady cop that had murdered her family, and it led to him having a moment of personal growth. It's always great when murder does that.

    Not too surprisingly,
    Spoiler (mouseover to read):
    Deb hooked up with Lundy,
    but very surprisingly,
    Spoiler (mouseover to read):
they both were shot by mystery assailants, and it looks like Lundy is dead!

Holy hell, just saw the season finale and the last scene was... really upsetting.

    Major, MAJOR spoiler:

    Spoiler (mouseover to read):
Dexter killed Trinity, of course, but before he could TRINITY KILLED RTIA. With Harrison watching, so basically Harrison faces the same fate of watching his mother die and then being covered in her blood as his father. I am shocked and saddened, as unlike many other fans I actually liked Rita.

You've got to give the audience what it wants, and the sad fact for Rita is a lot of that crowd wanted to see her stfu permanently! The predator at the beck and call of a shrew was getting very old.

Gotta say, I was a little surprised though.

I love that show! Roll on series 5.

The hatred of Rita has always been utterly mystifying for me. I can only guess it's that when you are watching a show where the protagonist is a serial killer, a wife who understandably wants her husband to be emotionally open with her, and involved in the lives of their children would seem more like an obstacle than anything else.

Exactly. Rita was holding our hero back.

Now he can palm the children off on their grand-parents for a series, while he catches up with a few more overdue bad guys.

Well, I'm expecting an incest angle for the next series based on

    a) Dex and Debra are adopted but not actual siblings.
    b) The two playing Dex and Debra are married IRL.
    c) ratings

    Ewwww! Now that's just perverse!

I've tried not to let that influence my viewing since I discovered the fact, but it does add a strange dynamic when I watch an episode again and allow my attention to be affected by such things.

They don't have to worry about them just yet.
