Default What are your plans for Labor Day weekend?

Here in the States it's a 3-day weekend. Anyone have fun plans?

We aren't doing anything too exciting, but I'm still looking forward to it. Today, we got a babysitter for a couple hours, and my husband and I are going to a local tavern to eat, drink, and watch Illini football. This seems like a small thing, but it's a big treat for us.

Tomorrow, we're all going up to Kensoha...there are a ton of outlet malls/stores up there, and we're going to do our fall shopping, while avoiding Cook County sales taxes (the highest in the country, wheeee!)

Monday, we'll probably just hang out, but that's ok by me. I'm going to work hard to get the house in order today, so I won't feel guilty not doing anything.

Since my parents retired and moved up north, it became traditional for us all to go up for Labor Day. 3 day weekend, plus my father's birthday is on the 6th, there are plenty of lakes and beaches nearby for a bit of end-of-summer fun, etc.

However, unlike my siblings, I don't enjoy this very much. It's too cold for any good lake stuff, I couldn't care less about four-wheeling and target-shooting, the other two popular pastimes up there, and I get to see my parents all the time since they always stay with me when they visit anyone on this side of the state. And traffic is a right bitch, so I said screw it, we're staying home.

We'll be going to a local "Arts, Beats and Eats" festival that I've always wanted to check out instead. Some friends of ours are performing so we're going to lend our mighty vocal support and stuff our faces.

Sunday is a scheduled day of sloth.

Monday we'll be celebrating my boyfriend's birthday having dinner with some friends.

My parents/siblings are rather miffed with me, but luckily they're all hundreds of miles away being miffed so I don't have to pretend to care.

I will honestly spend a lot of today here. I also have to fix my garage door opener.

Tomorrow my family returns from Florida, Hurray!

So Monday is about seeing what they are up to.

I need to do gardening, but my knees hurt. I'll probably just watch movies.

Cleaning, as I'm surrounded by lazy teenagers.

I might be cooking some hot dogs and hamburgers, too. It depends on whether or not I feel that they deserve to be fed.
So now they are just dirt-covered English people in fur pelts with credit cards.

Today I will be mending the fence, and later going in to work to finish making ice cream and chocolate sauce. Sunday will be sloth day. Monday is no holiday for me.

When you work in retail, you have the opposite feeling that most people have toward long holiday weekends. It just means more work. My fun plans this weekend include serving the needs of the incoming college freshmen and their clueless parents as they buy up everything in sight. Great for business, but bad for the soul.

I fixed it, it was pretty easy, though one my transmitters are dead. So I need a replacement.

Was hoping to go to the Country House ( what we call my apartment out of NYC in Rockland County ) on this most glorious day, for today and tomorrow. But my s.o.'s at the dentist and I've not done real pain with her yet, so I have no idea what shape she will be in. She may want to be left the hell alone, may do fine, may want to go bike riding ( doubtful... ).

Whatever she needs to get her through this.

It's going to be a weekend of as much idleness as I can cram in between chores. So, basically a "normal" weekend.

I have this mad plan to actually organize my books, but I have had it since February and progress is real slow. I will probably just go buy some new books to add to the collection. To disguise the lack of organization, of course.

I have spent Thursday night, all day Friday, yesterday and most of today grandpuppy sitting a very sick puppy. He is finally eating now, though, so it was the best Labor Day weekend I have spent. We really thought he was going to die. He's not 100% yet, but I am pretty sure he's going to make it.

Other than that, I watched football last night, drank a LOT of wine, (Sauvignon Blanc, in case you were wondering) and probably going to be doing major laundry, since Pup had an accident all over my bed.

Yeah, I party like a (live) Kennedy, I know.

I spent all Saturday in the theater helping with my school's 24 hour playfest. 5 plays are written, cast, rehearsed, designed and performed within 24 hours. The writers started at 10 Friday evening and the directors, actors and designers began at 8 Saturday morning. I was one of the technical liasions so I spent all Saturday helping stressed out designers figure out what they need and how to get it. This is an annual event that is open to the entire campus and we get a lot of people who have no previous experience with live theater or the technical side of it. There are few things as cool in my mind than the look of absolute entrancement on the face of someone who's never even thought about theater when they play with theatrical lights. And it ended up phenomenally. I was genuinely worried that some of the plays would bomb. No worries.

Now I get to spend all Sunday and Monday doing homework.
