Default The most and least delicious thing you ate this holiday season

Thread title says it all - so, what was it?

The most delicious thing I ate was only peripherally tied to the holidays. My mother came for a Christmastime visit and had health problems, so we ended up in Singapore for medical treatment. In between doctor's appointments we had lunch at a chain restaurant featuring "nyonya cuisine" (which is a blend of Malaysian, Chinese, and perhaps a few other SE or South Asian influences). The string beans in belachan (Malaysian dried shrimp paste) were pure ecstasy.

Least delicious: we went to a dessert party on Christmas night. For middle-aged farts like us, a dessert party is actually not a great idea, since we're mostly watching our weight and losing our taste for sweets. But everyone brought fabulous desserts anyway, and so the vast array of sweet things was pretty overwhelming. I had some chocolate mousse that was truly uninspired - no chocolate taste at all, it was just like eating sweetened lard. Blehh.

    And you?

Least delicious - turkey. Never been a fan of this really. Had a taste though just to remind myself how crap it was.

Most delicious - an extra-large mince pie, nuked for 45 secs and smothered with Cointreau and mandarin flavoured thick cream.

    Excuse me while I drool.

Last night my sister brought over a lasagna for the party. It was great. I can't really think of my least delicious.

On Christmas eve I had an artichoke dip that was incredible.

Probably the least delicious was a cottage cheese based dip I had last night. It wasn't bad, it was just bland.

The most delicious thing was surprisingly simple, a round of brie wrapped in crescent roll pastry and baked, with some toasted walnuts and sliced granny smith apples. Oh so rich and creamy and melty.

The most bland was probably the mashed potatoes served with dinner last night. I loves me some potato, but the cook was apparently afraid of seasonings, butter or anything that might impart some flavor.

    That sounds great.

Most delicious: Homemade cheese fondue. Emmental, Gruyère, Appenzeller, dry white wine and a little Kirsch, lemon, nutmeg, garlic and black pepper.

Least delicious: Fluorencent green "wasabi"-flavored potato chips from a bag that had been open for weeks. Strangely fascinating though, in a train wreck kind of way.

I ate a lot of yummy things over the holidays...but I think my favorite was cheesecake with a lemon glaze on it that a friend of mine made & served last night.

Least yummy is hard...we had a good year in terms of food this year.

Most delicious: Lamb sandwich with provolone.

The least delicious is weird, because it is holidayish. I was making myself a batch of Mac & Cheese, so I could just bring a couple lumps to work over the week. I underestimated what I had in my fridge (no milk) and had to substitute egg nog instead.

Oh yes. I tried that today. Tasty, but very, very heavy.

Very, but somehow the crisp lightness of the apple slices balances it well, I thought. Definitely a food to share at a party though, no way we'd make it through a whole one ourselves.

    Glad you liked it!

OK, I found my least yummy. I have two from yesterday, in fact:

    1) The quickie waffle-iron cookies I tried to make.

    2) A tamale-style stew that we made to use up some of the leftover pork from Christmas eve dinner. It was ok, just not great. And the pork is so good that usually any leftovers we make with it are awesome. We are using it for BBQ pork sandwiches today! That should be pretty good.
