Zombieland gets a little less survivable - Hostess files for bankruptcy

I know this news hit last week, but I haven't seen much discussion of it.

On the one hand, they made unhealthy junk food that probably shouldn't be eaten. On the other hand, it's sad to see an old and iconic brand die.

When my folks went to America in the '90s all my brother wanted back was Hostess Twinkies. He'd been reading ads for them in comics for years before that.

This makes me sad. I hardly ever eat Hostess snacks, but like you said, they are iconic. It sounds like they're continuing to operate at least in Canada, though.

There was a Hostess factory near my college and on certain days the wind would be just right so the campus would fill with the scent of baking. Just on scent memory alone, I'm always going to have a soft spot for them.

Fortunately, the world stockpiles of Twinkies will stay edible for another century or three. I am surprised about the bankruptcy, though. Americans love their disgusting snackfoods. (Of course, I don't even remember the last time I ate something of theirs.)

I remember when I was a kid, I would peel the gross slab of frosting off of their cupcakes to save it for last.

Well, it's not bankruptcy per se, it's bankruptcy protection, and looks more like union-busting than anything else.

I imagine stoners will still be eating Twinkies for the foreseeable future.

Twinkies will keep on popping out. The company as Rube said is just trying to get concessions from the union. It is less union busting though and more reality in this case. They need the concessions or they will need to close up.
