    Default Halloween plans!

I've got an obscene amount of work and no costume besides, so I'm not going out anywhere. However! I'm in a new town this year and it's a very tiny one at that (I could literally name each person here). The parents here generally take their kids around town before going to one of the larger communities where there's real trick-or-treating.

To that end, I'm bringing in a tradition from my old town. Instead of candy, I'm getting a big tub of ice cream, sprinkles, chocolate sauce, etc, and cones, and each kid that comes over shall get an ice cream cone and goodies dumped on it.

It ends up being a fairly cheap treat altogether, but it's a memorable one. And in a small community like this, there's no trouble with a non-packaged treat.

What of the rest of you?
So now they are just dirt-covered English people in fur pelts with credit cards.

    That sounds really cool, Z!

It looks like I'll be going to a protest on Saturday in costume, since I have work right after. I went to a party last weekend, but don't have any actual Halloween plans.
So, I'll whisper in the dark, hoping you'll hear me.

    What a fun idea, Zuul!

We have SO many Halloween-y things to do this weekend! Tonight, we're going to a carnival at my son's school...he goes to a Catholic school for Pre-K, and the 8th graders throw the carnival as a fundraiser. Tomorrow, we're making cookies to take to a Halloween party some friends are giving on Sunday, and then of course on Monday there's the school costume parades and trick-or-treating. Sassy is going as Little Cosette from Les Miserables (yes, this was her idea and she planned the whole costume!) and Boots is going to be a pirate.

Halloween's never been my favorite holiday, but it sure is fun to see the kids enjoy it!

Aw, I'd share my ice cream cones if you were here, AG.

Oh, this sounds like such fun. Halloween is a lot of fun with kids around.

Some years back when my little brother and oldest niece and nephew were still little, I used to take them out trick-or-treating. There was this one guy who would tell kids they could have either a can of Coke or a potato, every single year. Gotta love small midwestern towns! One year, there was this exchange:

    Kids: Trick or treat!
Man: All right, you can each have a Coke or a potato! What do you want?
    Brother: Coke!
    Niece: Coke!
    Nephew! Potato!
Man: *gives kid weird look...and a potato*
So now they are just dirt-covered English people in fur pelts with credit cards.

Your town and plan both sound awesome, Zuul.

There doesn't seem to be much trick-or-treating in my neighborhood, for some reason (there are plenty of kids around). But I've got a party to go to tomorrow night. I'm dressing up as Eris.

I'm not doing any actual thing on Halloween, but I am attempting to host a pumpkin carving party today.

I'm leaving work early to pick my son up from school and take both kids out trick or treating by 5pm is my goal. My son is a medieval assassin (Think Dread Pirate Roberts sans hat) and my daughter is dressing as a Medusa (technically a Gorgon, but it is too geeky and anal to correct my daughter beyond letting her know Medusa was on of the 3 Gorgon sisters).

I may wear a Vampire's Cloak but I am not sure.

I wore my old Scout uniform to a costume party last night, but will be teaching a class and thus unavailable to help with the trick-or-treating hordes tomorrow night. My wife and inlaws will hold the fort. One of my boys is going as a civil servant from HM Ministry of Silly Walks (dark suit, briefcase and requisite silly walk), and the other is going as an iPod (in a homemade light foamcore costume).

Will hand out candy as usual while my wife and kid go trick-or-treating. Kid and his buddies don't really need adult accompaniment any more, but the buddies have younger siblings so parents are still involved. Kid is going as Darth Vader. (Cue music)

I shall be handing out sweets to all who come to the door. We get quite a few round so hopefully the couple of sweet buckets we have got will suffice.

We did get our first callers round on Saturday Night. That was slightly confusing.

Well this has been changed to, working and hoping nobody calls to my door as I haven't got any Hallowe'en sweets etc.

Well it's over. Fun. Lot of cute little kids came to my door, next to nothing in the way of teens in civvies.

My kid and his buddies scored big, lots of high quality chocolate and chips, hardly any Rockets and no gross candy kisses.

Disappointing here. Only a few sets of kids around and an unopened bucket of sweets sitting forlornly there just waiting to be eaten.

    Every cloud etc etc.

We had about 125 kids, which was slightly less than last year. It's not unusual for us to see vans pull up and disgorge kids from other neighborhoods to attack our street.
