Default The end of the Sony Walkman

After 30 years of production, Sony is finally calling time on the Sony Walkman.

A piece of music history ends today. I must have gone through so many portable cassette players of so many different brands, but its a shame it is finally over.

    More on the story here

How many people hear made mix tapes of their favourite artists and played them in these things. They most have sold millions of them because at one point, everyone seemed to have one.
In the land of the blind, the one-arm man is king.

Oh, wow. There goes a piece of my childhood. I had a red one that was probably about as sleek and small as a cassette player ever could be, but it would have been monstrous in comparison to the MP3 player I have now. I'd record the songs from Disney movies to create my own mix tapes of them. Sometimes I would use them to create bizarre new plots, like now Aladdin is taking the little mermaid on a magic carpet ride so she can be part of his world...

    That'll do Walkman. That'll do.
So now they are just dirt-covered English people in fur pelts with credit cards.

I had no clue they still made them. I'm surprised they lasted so long. They were such a big step up from what went before but they also chewed up batteries at a prodigious rate. I still have one stuffed in a draw somewhere, unused for over 10 years.

I had one in high school; a friend of mine had one first and I was, quite frankly, covetous. I loved mine and still have it stuffed in a drawer somewhere, too. RIP Walkman - you were just what we needed at the time.

Do I still have one, buried amongst my stuff? I hadn't thought about them in years, and like Jim, hadn't realized they were still in production.

I loved my Walkman for many years.

I still have mix tapes my sister made for me - but no way to play them.

If you could borrow one from a friend, you could use this to turn them into mp3s.
I don't think so, therefore I'm probably not.
