    Hiking in the wilderness
Doing something that is aesthetically pleasing - playing a musical instrument, cooking a meal filled with delicious smells and textures, or working in the garden
Reuniting with my husband when we've been apart for a while
Listening to my son confide in me
Being jumped on by a purring cat

(I feel like I should burst into a lusty rendition of "Raindrops on roses and whiskers on kittens, bright copper kettles and warm woolen mittens....")

    Reading a good book.
The scent of the woods after a summer rain.
Being with my friends and loved ones.

Enjoying a beer, sitting around chatting with people I like.
Listening to a song I really enjoy, singing along.
The way the air feels, all clean and crisp, on a sunny autumn day. Or right after a thunderstorm.
When I get a chance on a clear night to just look up and appreciate the stars.
And this one will seem strange, but if I'm at work and I really get into a groove. Where I'm not even thinking about what I'm doing but just.. going. Like being in the zone. I guess I feel the same way about getting to that point doing anything physical, but at work that's the only time I've ever noticed it.

To crush your enemies, see them driven before you and to hear the lamentation of their women.

    Also, coloring with crayons.

Drinking with very good friends is high on the list.

Driving long distances in a nice car.

Photographing old signs brings be more pleasure than I can explain.

Driving around someplace new to me in a nice car with my camera is huge. I try to do this on vacation. I take one day off from the family and get lost. I've down this in the rurals around the Wisconsin Dells, outside of Detroit, St. Louis. Amusingly, no one but me has every seen the pictures.

    That is good.

Hanging out with friends, beer or no beer.

Spending time with my mom, my sisters, and my niece.

    Sleeping late and making breakfast.

    Reading.

    Trees.

    Waterfalls.

    Writing when I feel inspired.

Finding blue jeans that fit right and look good.

It's not about just the liquor. "Drinking" is a process that includes
liquor, but also involves having the time and inclination to bullshit
for a few hours and pollute the conversation with crap about work,
the house, or anything too pressing.

This may be a uniquely guy thing.

I can only truly drink with maybe 10 people on earth.

It's not. I was basically raised watching my mother's side of my family socialize with each other like this, and aside from one uncle her entire generation is all women.

Well, God bless them, because it's cheaper than therapy and 10 times more effective.

Note: That's pretty much my definition of drinking too. Plenty of beer, good company, and no compelling reason not to have a bunch of drinks and talk your faces off for hours on end. Hell, that's how you get to know people in the first place, least as far as I'm concerned.

Hanging with my kids. The last time I had all four and the grands with me was a couple of years ago. I've seen them all separately, but I love having them all together.

    Reading without interruption.

Sitting in my sparkling clean home and savoring the feeling.

Flirting when the flirtee flirts back.

Watching people enjoy the meal I cooked.

Roller skating or dancing to music I love. Certain music fills me with joy.

Finding something I need on sale and having a coupon for the item.

    New pretty underwear.

Bidding a "no" playing Bid Whist and pulling all the books.

    Completing the Times crossword puzzle.

Getting a good reception to my new work at an open mic night. Actually performing the work makes me happy.
They weren't singing....they were just honking.

Every workday I stop at Starbucks and get a grande bold to take to work.

For a few weeks now, I've been treating myself on Fridays by also getting a cupcake.

Since I've been getting the grande bold for years, it doesn't really surprise me that some of the barristas look at me and say "grande bold?".

However, today, there were no cupcakes on the shelf, so I didn't ask for one. The barrista, though, said "And do you want a cupcake today?" and went to get one from where they were stored. He'd noticed that I get them on Fridays, even though he serves God knows how many customers a week.

    That made me happy.
