    Default Top Gear USA

Apparently there is US version of Top Gear being produced. It was going to appear on NBC, but is now slated for the History Channel.

Following the same format as the British version, a trailer has already been released.

So what do you reckon, will this be any good or just a really bad copy?

What in the Hell is wrong with leaving a charming and enjoyable show alone? I don't think I can point to all the factors that come together for me to make Top Gear as enjoyable as I find it. I think a large part of it is the interaction between the hosts. I find it hard to believe that they'll be able to match that - and without that, Top Gear becomes just an automotive masturbation show.

Just for one thing I find jarring, two of the three presenters seem, in the clip shown, to appear identical types: hipsters in their untucked in flannel shirts. Which gets my back up right from the beginning. Similarly, their ages ranging from an estimated mid-30s for the guy in the t-shirt, to the two hipsters in their mid twenties, leaves me wondering just how deep their knowledge of the subject will be. I am not an automobile aficionado. I can't begin to match the knowledge that Clarkson, Hammond and Mays bring to the subject, but that they are knowledgeable is obvious, and part of the appeal. When they speak, I feel confident I can take their factual statements at face value. I don't get that sense from these bozos.

For fuck's sake: We do not need an American version of every fucking hit show the Beeb puts on. Esp. not if the push for that American version means you can't get the generally superior, original Beeb version in the US. Fucking bastards won't sell Life On Mars on DVD here. Goddamned region codes.
