Default Asides- Not Just for Shakespeare?

Have you ever wished you could do an aside?

They happen all the time in Shakespeare, where a character says things to him or herself, but also to the audience.

Sometimes I pretend that there is an audience watching, and I do an aside in my head.

    Does anyone else do that?

    Oh my goodness, yes.

Sometimes I say it aloud under my breath.

Sometimes it gets me in trouble.
everything in nature is sort of gross when you look at it too closely. what is an apple? basically the uterus of a tree - terrifel

I'll often do asides while speaking to other people.

Seeing as how there isn't an audience there and the person I'm talking to can hear me, it tends to earn me strange looks.

    Asides? I have whole monologues.
I don't think so, therefore I'm probably not.

No, but I am a man of few words. I do, however, often find myself going for the more modern "Jim Halpert Camera Face"

    I totally do that.

I also occasionally start narrating everything I'm doing.

    ....

I don't do it out loud, though.

I used to do this in the men's room. I got a letter from HR about it.
"I won't kill for money, and I won't marry for it. Other than that, I'm open to just about anything."

I do this in fights with my husband. It rarely helps improve the situation.
