Default Just tried Domino's "improved pizza"...

and it is really pretty good. Really.

Not great, and still not good enough for anyone in Chicago to pass
on a local pie, but perfectly acceptible.

    And a deal.

Can't say I would ever order it again, we have a list of local places we like better, but compared to the CRAP Domino's used to peddle, this is a HUGE improvement.

How has the Domino's pizza changed? I'm curious whether the stuff we get here is more like the old or new version.

We get both Domino's and Pizza Hut in Jakarta, but I don't know how much they resemble American offerings. I will say we get a LOT of non-traditional topping offerings (chicken, shrimp, black pepper, hot dogs, etc.) but maybe that is standard in America now, too - I've kind of assumed it is.*

How do PH and Domino's stack up in your part of the woods? Here, one is not better than the other, but Domino's is much cheaper.

*(Well, maybe standard American and Indonesian toppings are not QUITE the same. On TV here they advertise a family pizza that has won-tons, bok choy, hot dogs, croquettes, and corn on top -- that's not an exact rendering, I can't recall precisely what the toppings are. But I promise you the true list is just as bizarre, and I'm pretty sure croquettes are part of it.)

Pizza Hut and Domino's are both at the lower end of the pizza offerings, IMO. I confess to being biased toward Pizza Hut because the personal pan pizzas we used to serve at the food court I worked at for all of six weeks were actually darn tasty.

    Damnit, craving coming on. :-(

Chicken is fairly common as a topping, shrimp isn't unheard of, though not really had in the chain pizza places. But hot dog pizza? That violates the rules of the universe.

Domino's is really popular here, and I get it once in a blue moon. Their local competitors are so much better tasting and cheaper but because of their blanket advertising and branding they seem to do really really well. ETA: IIRC Domino's here tastes quite a bit different (better) than some I tried in the US.

I can go off topic since I'm the OP, right?

Saw some fun pizza toppings in Belgrad a couple of years ago. Corn kernels, local sausage and horse meat, to name a few.

Yeah, every review I see seems to say about the same thing. Definitely better, but no reason to switch from the better pizza you probably usually order. I have this vague urge to try New & Improved Domino's but eh, if I'm gonna eat pizza I want it to be really good.

It seems to surprise Americans that sweetcorn is a popular topping on pizza here. It is delicious on pizza imho. You can also get an Irish breakfast pizza, though I've never tried one. That's sausages, bacon, eggs and black pudding on a pizza.

Pizza AND the resulting corn-doodoo in one fell swoop?

Around here corn on pizza is considered an American thing. That one never fails to astonish actual Americans.

Dear citizens of benighted foreign countries: Just stop putting corn on pizza, okay? Just stop.

I just now remembered this thread when I was cleaning up some recyclables; I actually tried the new Domino's pizza a couple weeks ago. I was not all that impressed. I haven't eaten enough of their pizza to really compare for sure, but the new pizza didn't seem all that different. The sauce was still too sweet, and the crust was still way too pillowy. I don't think they really changed the crust at all, they just started painting some flavoring crud on it. Which didn't taste like much, it was just dried garlic and what I think was artificial butter flavor. I don't really like that "flavor crud" genre of snacks, and getting flavor crud on my hands while I eat a pizza does not appeal to me.

It might be better than it was before, but it certainly didn't seem impressive. I don't really eat at any of the big national pizza chains enough to really draw a fair comparison. But I'd still probably choose any of the others before Domino's.

Okay, after posting in this thread I paid attention when they broadcast a Pizza Hut commercial on TV while I was treadmilling. It went by too fast to see all the toppings, but one topping was fish balls that had been rolled in small bread cubes and deep fried (those of you with an in-depth familiarity with dim sum specialities may recognize what I'm talking about).

Based on this evidence alone, I maintain that YOUR Pizza Hut pizza is better than MY pizza hut pizza.
