Default Star Trek TOS: What Are Little Girls Made Of? 1.07

Today's episode is a fairly interesting one which I haven't seen a gazillion times -- for some reason I either don't catch it in re-runs or it just isn't broadcast as often as some others. At any rate, we get some character development for Nurse Chapel, androids, Kirk hitting on androids, an android Kirk, an android Kirk hitting on androids. Lots of stuff to chew on!
    Hell is other people.

    Actually a fairly good episode.

Andrea who it turns out was Sherry Jackson was probably the best looking Star Trek Babe of the Week. She was actually one of the daughters on Make Room for Daddy and old 50s series I barely remember at all.

Ted Cassidy was Ruk and is of course best known for playing Lurch on the Addams Family. He must have been loved by casting departments. A minimal amount of makeup would make him look other than human. As always though, his role was not one that allowed him to act. I know he died bitter over never getting a role he was proud of.

Probably Nurse Chapels biggest role in the series. She seemed barely up to the task as an actress.

Shatner was solid as Kirk utilized his strange ability to talk androids, computers and robots into submission. Where was he when they needed to shut down WOPR?

How many episodes did they have with a major character encountering a former lover?

ETA: (Watching the episode now.) Hey, that display screen on the bridge, showing basic info about the planet, is pretty cool. Shows a picture of the planet, it's equator, its axis and (I think) the inclination of its axis to the planet's ecliptic, with several paragraphs of info too small to read. I wonder if that was part of the original episode, or added in with the "remastering".

Interesting sort of half-hug with Uhura and Chapel there. Why interesting? Because Gene Roddenberry was bangin' both Nichelle Nichols and Majel Barrett (while still married to his then-wife).

That might not have been true at the time, though; not sure what episode number this is. Still, I wonder how well the two actresses got along whenever their paths crossed later in life.

I always thought Majel Barret did much better with the more comedic role as Troi's mom in the later series. That was a much better fit for her abilities.

Andrea just told Chapel, "I am now programmed to please you also." They could have really done something with that.

I agree and it looked like she would have done fine as #1 for the Pike Crew.

I just watched the episode and I really like it. I thought it was pretty solid from start to finish, but it still manages to bring the humor (for example, the fact that the rock Kirk uses as a club to defend himself looks like a giant pink dildo. Don't tell me the art department didn't know what they were doing with that). I mean, this is just awesome .

I also like Spock "chastising" Kirk at the end for using the inelegant term "half-breed." And of course, Kirk is so unbelievably masculine and perfect that he teaches an android how to love.

Also, Gene was sleeping with Nichelle Nichols?!

I'm still swimming in harmony. I'm still dreaming of flight. I'm still lost in the waves night after night...

Oh, I'm sure it was just a coincidence.

I will have to watch this later in the week. I will try to scrub the above picture from my mind when I do so....

I will be back, but Elijah Wood, Viggo Mortensen and I have a date tonight.

I am a bad Mellophanter. I have not yet watched this episode. I got home from a conference today and took a 3 hour nap instead.

    Bad, bad Mellophanter.
