Default Mackenzie Phillips: Bummer Childhood+Modicum of Fame=New Career

I am not suggesting that Mackenzie Phillips had it good or easy. Sounds like dad was nothing but pure sleaze.

But I am suggesting that she has turned her misfortune into a career of
profitable moping. Is there really any cathartic value to outing your dad as a creep at this stage in her life?

Mackenzie Phillips is now better known for being depressed and sullen than she is for any work she ever did.

Recently saw her as a judge on "Pet Star", which I realize is the real D-List. Some how, despite the show's vapid, "we're all having fun" and "every act is great" mentality, she was a nasty bitch of a judge. WTF? This is a freaking kid's show.

Seems that if you're famous enough, you can turn being F'd up into a career...one that I suggest is much less challenging than, I don't know, getting over it and finding work.

Oddly, that was cathartic for me.

Moreover, is there any value to outing your dad as a creep at this stage in his life; i.e., posthumously?

Well, she's on Oprah today. I suppose that's predictable.

Well yes, the value is in making money selling her book.

She has really lived a screwed up life. I remember years ago, she was proud of the fact that Mick Jagger had her on her 18th birthday. So I don't think she has a very normal view on life and is doing the only thing she knows to get by.

If this is true and it probably is, it is just one more weirdness that is her life. Really screwed up.

I remember the very first episode of Behind the Music that I ever saw, which was on The Mamas & The Papas. This was me watching it: Not just because of how crazy their lifestyles were, but also of how cavalierly the people involved spoke of all of it...like even in 20-years' hindsight, it hadn't occurred to them that things like giving drugs to your young children were kind of a big deal and really messed up. I can well understand why and how MacKenzie got so screwed up, even if this latest little gem isn't true.

But I have never agreed with the "go on Oprah" school of therapy. It just doesn't seem healthy or helpful in the long run.

I do fail to see why this is news. John Phillips was a creepy weirdo. I think people have gotten that message by now, it's well documented. It's like putting a turd on a giant pile of turds and announcing that now this is a pile of turds.

Wow, I had no idea someone's fucked up life would be so funny to people. Sometimes I really have a good laugh at the idea that *I* am supposed to be one of the biggest bitches on this board, yet there are some cold hearted folks here. Truly.

Anyone can be a bitch girl, it takes something truly special though to be a monster.

I don't see a whole lot of funny going on in this thread, aside from one joke. What I see mostly is people recognizing that Mackenzie Phillips had an shitty childhood and adolescence, but still rolling their eyes at how she's parlayed it into Z-list celebrity, moping for dollars, and 15 minutes on Oprah. At least that's what I'm doing.

I have to laugh about this because I'd be depressed otherwise. It resembles a family situation of mine which believe it or not is slightly more fucked up.
