Default On the Cataloging of Porn

On my way back from Qatar, my bag came up missing. In it was all my underwear and a 1T hard drive with all my porn. No, I did not have the drive full of porn, but a large collection.

I enjoy cataloguing stuff. I was born to be a librarian. Now I am able to start from tabla rasa. How ought I to proceed in arranging a new-and-improved collection?

Last time, I began with two general headings, "Text," and "Images." Then each and every photo was tagged with meta-data to make it searchable and placed in any of a number of folders. These folders were labeled with the model's name or other characteristics.

A final folder was full of "Smart Folders" (on my Mac) for each meta-data term "Redhead," Nun," "Asian." The idea was that if I wanted to look at redheads, I could open the smart folder and see each redhead no matter where the original photo ended up.

But I am open to new ideas. How do you organize your porn?

Sounds like you're more needing to install a hidden TrueCrypt volume so that next time you go traveling it's you enjoying your lovingly-gathered double penetration pics and not some Arab airport employee.

Some people take their porn way too seriously!

I am awful at cataloging. I don't even name the files correctly, so I have to open like a thousand different files if I'm looking for something in particular. The closest thing to a process I have is in my "Not Porn" file, I've divided it into studios and models, but only for the models & studios I have more than one or two files of.
I'm still swimming in harmony. I'm still dreaming of flight. I'm still lost in the waves night after night...

The method based on real life is indeed the best method.

I have 2 encrypted folders. The first is divided into 3 subfolders - softcore, hardcore and video. The second folder contains anime and cartoon porn, my own stories as well as some of the weirder shit I only occasionally browse.

You know what pisses me off? People who post pictures with filenames that are gobbledygook. Someone posts a picture of Heather Graham, say, but they name it wpHoeOWp__319342.jpg or something, so it's impossible to search and find it on my hard drive unless I take the time to change the name or put it in a folder. All the person posting it has to do is write a descriptive filename once, and it will save many people from having to repeat that action.

I get most of my pics by dragging and dropping from a webbrowser - as such, a lot of the names are random. Just for fun i opened up my soft core folder - about 16% are just random numbers, or are named 01, 02, etc. But I am obsessive enough to add in key words or create sub-folders, if I think they are worth the effort. If not, it is like a lucky dip. Ooh yeah, work it for me 0004080121.jpg.

I just have folders, with some minor hierarchiality where it's convenient (there's not a word for that, so just do your best.)

I try to keep stuff organized by "theme", just so that when I decide I'd like to find that one particular photo/video, I just have to remember if it's (say) in the "bestiality" or the "fisting" or the "wet and messy" folder and then go find it. Or if I just feel like pictures of "dvda" one night I can find all those items without searching through unrelated material.

I just save new stuff to a "randoms" folder and then every so often move everything to the appropriate place. It's easier just to save everything to one folder in my browser.

I always sort of think I should use some sort of more sophisticated photo management software rather than just file manager, so I could use tags, since some things fit into more than one category, but I'm not willing to invest that kind of time in organizing my porn.
