    Default RIP, Patrick Swayze

Was sad to hear the news late last night that Patrick Swayze lost his battle with pancreatic cancer. He fought the good fight.

Not a great actor, but a fun one. He always seemed like a great guy in interviews. He helped make one of the most fun, terrible acting movies of all time in Point Break and of course will always be best remembered for Dirty Dancing and Ghost.

I was really hoping he would hold on longer.
He didn't have the most impressive resume out there, but a lot of people really enjoyed his work and will miss him.

He's best known for his roles in movies I didn't like, such as Dirty Dancing and Ghost, but we'll always have Roadhouse and Black Dog and Point Break to remind us that in addition to being a romantic lead, the dude could kick a little ass.

AND he could dance pretty darn well.

And I'm not holding that against him.

I'm really bummed out. I also hoped that he would managed to hold on for a little bit longer. I literally grew up watching Dirty Dancing and Road House (Road House was my dad's favorite movie and I guess he didn't see any problem in letting us watch it). But for a long time Patrick Swayze was basically a punchline in my house. There's a rifftrax for Road House, Point Break, Dirty Dancing, Red Dawn, and Ghost, and we watched Road House and Point Break with it over and over and over (I now essentially have RH memorized). I don't know how or why, but something changed. I mean, we still find the movies hilarious, but we became really fond of the man. I think it's because he was so sincere as an actor and as a singer. When he said "Pain don't hurt" and "Nobody puts baby in the corner" and "Ditto" I get the sense that he really meant it.
I'm still swimming in harmony. I'm still dreaming of flight. I'm still lost in the waves night after night...

Yeah, he wasn't the greatest actor, and he made some cheesy movies. But he seemed like a really nice guy and a guy who you felt like you knew who he was through the roles he played. He was a tough guy who wasn't afraid to be sensitive and who wasn't afraid to be a dancer. I think that's super cool.

Not to mention one of the best SNL guest hosts ever. I mean, has there ever been a consistently better single episode? It had:

    - "White Trash Bed & Breakfast." You want ketchup on white, or ketchup and onion on white?
    - Hans and Franz, second best episode ever after Arnold Schwarzenegger
    - "Chippendales," maybe the best SNL skit ever
    - the obligatory Ghost parody, probably the lamest skit of the night.

    Awesome mini-list I found online:

Patrick Swayze: 5 things you didn't know

My favorite is #2. He was married to the same woman for over 30 years! Actually, I did know that, but I thought it should be part of this little tribute to him.

He had a great life and a shitty end. The vast majority of people are very lucky to get the first bit.

Sorry if that sounds like thread-shitting, but I'm just saying "c'est la vie!".
