It has become more and more common nowadays for biochemists looking for their doctorates to turn their hand to making animals glow.

The reason for this genetic amendment is to assist in AIDS research, due to the close relationship between HIV and FIV, the feline equivalent.
On the one hand I can understand why this has been done. On the other hand, I know that it is going to lead to the forced infection of cats with FIV and other variants and then watching how they react.
