blink, blink ... what happened on 19 May?

Our "most users ever on line" stat was Oct 18, 2009 (or something around that date) for a very long time, and it was probably because we were having a post count party.

But now I see that not only have we zoomed up to nearly 200 active members (I was sure we were going to drop below 100 soon), and 19 May - just a couple of days ago! - is now our "most users ever on line" date.

What went down at Mellophant on the 19th? And why did I miss it? And what happened to the snackpit?

I'm pretty sure these were all unrelated things that coincidentally happened around the same time, and made it seem like something big happened!

The change in "most users ever on line" I think is a database glitch, though I don't know for sure. The previous high number was due to a story that was published on the Electric Elephant that brought in a lot of guests, and we haven't had an update over the last few days. I think someone noticed that people weren't being logged out after a certain amount of time? Something like that.

The change in the number of active members was something Zuul was messing around with. We were wondering how low the number was going to go (it was at around 110, I think?), so Zuul changed the setting from # of people who have logged in in the past month to # of people who have logged in in the past week. It went down to 80 something, which actually wasn't as bad as I thought it might be! And It think it must have then gotten changed to past 3 months or something after that, causing the number to go up to whatever it is now.

As far as the snackpit goes, apparently the reason they went down for a couple days was because they were hacked. Presumably unrelated to anything going on here.

We were all here waiting patiently for your return. People were starting to think we were some new sort of christian or something.

I did fiddle around with the settings on what it counts as an active user and how long it counted someone on the Who's On function (which accounts for the odd numbers), but we did actually get a bunch of guests that day. I'm assuming something on the front page was linked somewhere because they were all wandering around thataways, but I haven't taken the time to look at our stats in detail to figure it out.
