There is no one I would either murder for or die for.
There is at least one person I would murder for, but no one I would die for.

It depends on the situation - I wouldn't kill a man just because artifex wanted his scalp for a wig, but I'd certainly kill someone who was trying to hurt her - but in general the two groups are the same: I would kill, or die, to prevent death or serious injury to my family and maybe two or three friends.

Hmm....I guess "murder" excludes me killing in defense of another?

I answered that I'd do both and that the two groups are identical, but I guess since murder doesn't cover defense then that's a lie and I would only die for them.
The reason I wrote murder rather than kill is that a person willing to commit murder for another person's benefit is obviously going to be willing to commit a defensive killing for that person's benefit, but the reverse is not true.
I love my friend Kris. I'd kill someone who was menacing her with a gun, but if that person murdered her, I would not choose to track her or him down and avenge her.
I love my little sister more. If I were convinced she were in mortal danger and the police were not going to help, I think I'd kill to defend her pre-emptively, i.e., commit murder for her. So of course I'd kill to defend her in circumstances in which I'd be legally justified.

Well, for one - I was willing to risk my life, in part, for the Americans posting here. I'm a morbid sort, as people who have read my posts may remember. So when I enlisted I was well aware that part of the deal was that the service was not guaranteed to be safe. I never felt that I was taking a huge risk, but I would joke about how engineering track positions in the Navy were the Boolean option: You'd either get out unscathed, or dead. There really wasn't a scenario that would result in wounding. Similarly, I had accepted that my service would also put me in a position where I might be called to do things that would result in people being killed.
Even so, one of the many reasons I didn't go subs was that I didn't want to serve on a Boomer. When I enlisted it was 1989, and the Cold War was still going on. The Berlin Wall may have come down, but I was not alone in worrying how the Soviet Party leadership was going to respond to their lessening power, and control over their satellite states. I recognized, then, the need for the threat involved with Boomer launches to be credible for MAD to work - but I had serious qualms about my ability to actually carry out those orders.
Since then?
I'm far more comfortable risking, or even losing, my life to protect people I care about than I would be with killing anyone. But in the right circumstances, all options are going to be on the table. I'm not going to do a contract-type killing because someone pissed off The Monster, but if someone is credibly threatening her, and there isn't time for other solutions - lethal force would be an option. Note that that last could meet the legal definition for murder, or simple self-defense, depending on the circumstances.
Count me in as another jerk with no reading comprehension. I wouldn't murder (as in kill for reasons other than defense) anyone.
I KILL EVERYBODY WITHOUT MERCY AND THEN I PUT UP FLAG THAT SAY;
this is about being strong as fuck (wavy end of flag)
in a world full of shit (wavy end of flag)
but seriously i kill for fun
I'd do whatever was necessary to defend, and would give my life for, a small group of people (OCS of course tops that list), but I don't think I'd murder. My life will likely not be one of those action movies where they killed my whole family and I have nothing left to live for except systematically hunting and bringing justice down on the perpetrators.
There have been times when someone I care deeply about has been hurt particularly badly, and my response has been "Want me to kill him/her?" and I haven't been entirely joking.
Derp, reading comprehension.
I'd kill to protect myself, my family, or my friends given a situation that really warranted it.
I'd willingly die to save/protect those people and others if it could ever make an actual, substantial difference.
I don't know the limits of what I would do to protect by daughter, but her well being is my life's priority. I suspect that most parents would feel about the same--certainly my wife would.
I've always wondered if I could kill someone, but I doubt I would stutter if it meant saving my kid.
"I won't kill for money, and I won't marry for it. Other than that, I'm open to just about anything."
-Jim Rockford
That is what it boils down to for a lot of people. My kids and my wife come first.
Since I voted without reading the definition of "murder," I said that there were people I'd murder for/die for, and it was the same group. I was, of course, thinking of my husband and son.
However, I wouldn't pre-emptively murder anyone even for them. It would have to be to prevent their deaths and for no other reason.
I have been angry enough with a person or persons to fantasize that I would "passively" murder them - by which I mean, if I saw them do something that would cause them to die and I could stop it, I wouldn't. In reality, I am certain I *WOULD* actually stop the death(s) from occurring. But I honestly think I might hesitate for just a split second before doing the right thing.

ETA: That would be murder on behalf of someone - myself.
ALSO ETA: I will happily murder the person found to be responsible for all my double posts.
