Default Iceland halts British Air Travel

...but probably not in the way you think.

Iceland's erupting volcano has sent a cloud of ash of Britain preventing air planes from flying without risking damage from volcanic ash.

This is probably karmic given the recent troubles between the two countries over Britain wanting Iceland to repay investors from the latest economic crash and Iceland saying no.

Regardless the economic disruption is far greater than anything else Iceland could have done.

The good news is that it put complete stop to campaigning in the country by the parties using airplanes to get around.

Good lord it is England we are talking about, it is not that hard to skip the planes completely and drive from speaking stop to speaking stop. I thought the train system was still robust too?

Sneaky Icelanders though to get their revenge via Weiland the Smith and his forge.

They've grounded us too. 1/4 of European airports are effected.

Well the lockdown on British planes has been extended for a few days and it looks as though ash is falling in some parts of Scotland as well as Norway. At this rate, Europe is going to get be air free for a while.

In some ways its kind of pleasant, as I normally see several planes a day overhead.

In other news, all the insurers have activated their "Act of God" clauses and are refusing to pay out compensation for cancelled travel arrangements.

I wonder how that will affect travel insurance sales in the future. I'd think that even people who were aware of such Act of God clauses would feel rather ill-done by by that decision.

I think that would be a change to contract law in it's entirity as so many of them have Force Majeure as part of them. I think the change is likely to clarify further what can be considered "Act of God" although volcanoes spreading ash like this will probably stay part of it.

Thinking about it, given that "Act of God" is a legal term, I'm amazed more humanists have not been campaigning to have the term changed because there is no God.

Of course, it does mean they have no-one to blame it on, when things do go wrong. Or is this volcano an unintended effect of Global Warming.
