Default I'm going to the east coast this summer (maybe) and I need help

I'm going to The Solid Sound Festival in August probably. Tickets go on sale on Friday, and if I'm going to do it, I'll need to buy them then. Only, this event is taking place at MASS MoCa and I know nothing about that area. For example, which airport would I be using if I wanted to fly in? Will it be easy to find hotels there? Will it be overwhelming to drive around there? I looked at a Google map, but it wasn't hugely helpful to me. I know we have some east coast people here (and also people who aren't just country bumpkins like yours truly) and any information I could get would be helpful.
I'm still swimming in harmony. I'm still dreaming of flight. I'm still lost in the waves night after night...

Well, let's see if I can have a single post in this thread stay here.

First off, for airports, I'd consider Albany, NY; Springfield, MA; and Hartford, CT to be your best first choices for flying into the area. As possible outliers, consider Worcester, MA or Montpelier, VT, too. My gut feeling is that Hartford is likely to be the cheapest and most direct destination for you coming from UT, but check the actual numbers, not my gut feelings.

Another thing to do would be to send Taumpy a PM about all this: He's living in North Adams, now, and will likely be able to give you a lot of good local information.

Unless you are an epically nervous driver it should be surpassingly pleasant to drive around that area that time of year. I spent a long weekend out there a couple of summers back and visited Mass MOCA among other places.

It is quiet, bucolic, and serene. Nice, easy pace. There aren't a huge number of hotels but there are certainly places to stay.

If you can remind me of where you're coming from/what parts of the country you are familiar with I might be able to make some comparisons to an area you're familiar with.

We stayed here: http://www.whitcombsummit.com/, which was, in a word, quirky. It is an old resort with a great view which had many lean years but had been purchased by new investors and was being renovated. We stayed in one of the hotel rooms, not the cabins. The property was still in the process of being renovated so we got a good rate but there was construction still going on. The married couple that was running the place was very friendly.

I've never flown in there but OtakuLoki is probably right and Hartford will turn out to be the best bet. I didn't know that Springfield had an airport of its own though...I thought they usually used Hartford. Anyway it would be easy to drive to North Adams from there. Avoid Boston/Logan at all costs (especially if you are at all nervous about driving).

I can make a couple of suggestions for stuff you might like to do in the area, depending on how long you'll be there.
